A few days later
I went home that evening with Asael unfortunately we were not in the same car because he had to go somewhere and it was urgent.
I never heard from Asael again, as if he had vanished. And even Caesar I hadn't seen him in real life, I was happy not to see him, it gave me a vacation.
Besides, today was my day off, I wasn't working.
-Daisy, my mother calls me from the living room, Hayden is there
-I'm coming, I told him from the kitchen
What was Hayden doing here?, I thought perplexed.
I quickly finished nibbling my cherry tomatoes before heading to the living room.
-What are you doing here? I asked Hayden
-I have something to tell you, he said to me
-Do you want us to go out to eat at the same time as you tell me what you want to tell me?, I suggested to him
-Good idea, he replied, accepting.
-OK, I'm going to put on my shoes, I told him, heading quickly towards my hallway.
I put on my shoes and put on my coat.
-Mom isn't expecting me to eat tonight
-Okay no worries my darling, she said smiling at me, take care of yourself
-Yeah, I'll be careful, I replied.
The sun was slowly sinking below the horizon as I got into Hayden's car.
-Where do you want to go eat? I asked him while putting on the belt.
-...
Before I could say anything else, Hayden suddenly hugged me.
"Hayden, what's going on?" my voice was laced with palpable concern. I couldn't bear to see him in this state.
"I'm sorry I left you in the dark," he whispered, his voice choked with emotion. The words echoed in the cabin of the car.
As we drove towards our destination, the silence was heavy with unsaid words. I needed to know what was tormenting him so much, but I didn't dare break this fragile bubble of peace.
As we ate, the weight of his words hung in the air, like a sword of Damocles above our heads. I could sense something darker looming on the horizon.
-Hayden I need you to tell me what's going on, I asked him suddenly
-I'm lost Daisy, he whispers to me in a trembling voice.
-I'm here for you, I replied in a reassuring voice, you just have to trust me
-I don't want to put you in danger, he whispers to me, but because of me you are.
-I don't care if I'm in danger or not, I replied, I remind you that you are my friend and that I would do anything to help you
-I don't want to be a burden, he whispered to me
-Your 115 million debt doesn't scare me, I admitted to him
-Betty told you?, he asked me surprised
-She didn't tell me the story in detail, I told her, because she told me it was up to you to do it
-She's right, he smiled at me weakly
-So I'm listening to you, I said to him in a soft voice
-Excuse me, aren't you Daisy by any chance?, someone asked me as they approached our table.
-Yes, it's me, I replied, surprised to be interrupted.
-Can I have an autograph and a photo?, asked the excited person
-Yes, no worries, I replied.
After finishing the photo and signing the autograph I turned to Hayden.
-Sorry, you can continue, I replied.
-I have to go, Hayden told me, Caesar is waiting for me downstairs
-Why don't you tell him that you're busy?, I asked him
-Because he's my boss, he replied.
We look into each other's eyes, before he looks away first.
-Promise next time I'll tell you everything, he promised me
Do not disappoint me...
