Little Girl

Remember her... she's back..

December 7th 1862

That nightmare.. It never left my mind, not even for a second. "Love, are you sure you will be alright going on your own?" Satrena said, while retrieving her jacket. I nodded, not paying her concern much thought. I heard her sigh then she left. I continued working on the novel.

After a while I decided to get my jacket and leave. When I went upstairs I saw a note in the middle of the hallway. I picked it up and froze.. it's not my or Satrena's handwriting.. it looks almost childish. My blood ran cold at it's words.. "Beware the Shadow.." the paper looked almost aged. I quickly gathered my thoughts and left the paper on my bedside table. I took my jacket, walked downstairs and locked the house as I left. I quickly ran to my horse, Shade, and started heading to the Sunset Village. My brother lives there.. He probably started a family... I just hope he's safe.

The roads were silent.. odd.. normally you'd see someone walk by or even try to sell stuff.. I was also confused at the sudden invitation.. my brother wasn't the type to invite people.. not after what happened..

The streets were silent.. Almost agonising.. If my memory served me correctly, then his house should be on the edge of town... makes sense. But the last time I was here it was more lively.. even at night.. But las, nothing stays the same.

I arrived at my brother's house. It was so lively. Then a woman, presumably his wife, opened the door. "Hi, can I help you?" she said. "Um, I'm Nathan. Here for Kevin." I said nervously. Her eyes seem to light up. "Oh, I am so sorry. Please come in." she said, opening the door fully. I entered and I saw Kevin, jeez he's changed, he saw me and seemed happy.. weirdo.

"Nathy! You made it." he said, quickly pulled me into a tight hug. I endured this, not really into physical contact with other people. When he let me go I turned to the side to see the surrounding area.. what was looking at me?

"You okay, Nathy?" Kevin asked. "Yeah.." I responded, looking at him again. "Oh sorry. Let me introduce you to my wife." he said, walking past me and to his wife. "This is Mary, my wife." he said proudly. "Oh gosh, really? " Mary said to Kevin. "What?" he said. They started talking so I started looking at the surrounding area to find them..

There... a little girl.. She was just staring at me.. almost deathly. Her dark hair and pale skin made her look even more like a ghost.. her dark eyes...

"Darko, honey. What are you doing?" a sudden female voice said. I instinctively spun around and saw it was only Mary. "Sorry, Darky can be a bit cautious of new people." she said. Darko? That's a weird name for a girl. I looked back at her and she was gone.

"So she's your daughter.." I said. "Not actually. Kira is our biological daughter, Darko was adopted. I can't say I regret it. She's a great kid." said Mary. Kevin only smiled. "Oh I heard you were a writer. Darko also writes, you should read some of her stories." she said. I nodded, not really knowing how to respond. "So Nathan, do you have someone yet?" my brother asked, almost cautiously. "Yes, Satrena. we married two weeks ago." I said happily. Kevin smiled.

"Mom.." said a quiet voice. I looked at the source of the voice. Darko.. "Yes sweety, what is it?" the little girl ran over and gave her a note book then told her something. "Nathan." Kevin said seriously then approached me. "Yeah?" I asked. "Can I talk to you outside?" he had a dark look on his face. I hesitantly nodded then followed him to the backyard.

"So, what's the problem?" I asked. "No problem just wanted to know how you have been doing and don't give me that alright bull shit." he said. "I.. I'm doing better then before." I lied. "And your... Hallucinations.." he said, almost pitifully. I sighed "I'm on medication, so yeah. They come and go." I said. "Oh, okay. I just.." "I know, but I'm fine. Really." I said then looked up at the sky. "Shit, I should get going." I said, walking back in the house. "Sorry to cut this short, but I have to go." I said to Mary. She seemed confused at first, "Uh okay then. Please be safe." she said, opening the front door.

She gave me a note book, "Darko wants you to have this." she said. I nodded, took the book and got onto Shade. And as I said my goodbye, Darko came out and said, "Beware of the Shadow." I froze for a second... what.. I then shook my head and quickly headed home..

What did she mean... Beware of what Shadow?...
