When I dragged Sonia outside, my patience was already hanging by a thread. My grip on her arm was firm, and I didn’t bother hiding my irritation. She didn’t resist, but her silence carried that same smugness that made me question why I’d brought her here in the first place.

As soon as the cool air hit us, I let her go, turning to face her. “You’re here for one reason,” I said sharply, keeping my voice low but firm. “The mission is just as important as Katy’s safety. I didn’t bring you here to stir up a fight.”

Sonia shrugged, her nonchalance making my jaw clench. “Relax, Dario,” she said, brushing imaginary dust off her sleeve. “Stop being so serious. I was just teasing her.”

“Teasing her?” I repeated, my voice dropping an octave. “You call that teasing?”

Her lips curled into a smirk. “It’s between us. Family stuff. You wouldn’t understand.” She cocked her head, her tone turning mocking. “You’re nothing but a—”
