Kenneth Davis
I felt as though someone was looking at me. I was not wrong. The girl sitting in front was intensely looking straight through me.
You see, every girl's into me. They're madly in love with me.
I expected the girl to turn her eyes away but she did not. I smiled at her, the kind that would make her heart race like an ostrich, but she gave me a poker, bored look. I smiled at her seductively, yet she didn't even flinch. What's wrong with her? Is she a lesbian?
Psh, my instincts are not that bad. If my guess is right, this girl is just playing hard-to-get. Her face does show no interest, however, her eyes bespoke otherwise. My charm always work.
Her eyes was a pair of blue sockets. It was mesmerizing. Her face was visible of innocence and radiated confidence at the same time but she was absolutely ugly.
My face showed irritation from the reflection of my fork. Man, I hate her face. She's the type of girl that will act innocent and abused when all along it was her fault. And even with her social status, she'll do everything to climb higher even with her friend being stepped on. She's someone that will show empathy on everyone for pretense; act as if worried and concerned on one's state but was secretly doing something horrible behind their back. She's hilarious. She thinks I will fall on her trap but I won't.
I sent her a disgusted look and turned towards Tita Melissa when she began speaking.
"By the way, it is still nice to see that you made it here though you're itty-bitty late." Tita then laughed modestly. I laughed along with her.
"Nonsense." The girl in front of me blunted. I heard her whimper then, delivering a deadly glare towards the boy who was sitting in the right of my father.
Bitch. I took in an ample amount of air and willfully kept myself from doing something outrageous.
I smiled then turned to Tita Melissa.
"Of course I'll be here Tita, it's my pleasure. Just that. . ." I paused trying to think the most appropriate word to say.
Be ashamed of yourself, bitch.
"Today is Kim and I's first anniversary. I am so sorry for being late. I did not mean any offense." I said then lowered my head half-pretending to be feeling sorry for what I've done.
Today’s our anniversary. Kim knew that I am supposed to be home by five since she was told by my parents without my consent. My being late was all an act. I did it on purpose. After our dinner, I insisted taking her home which was a 30-minute round trip. Well, what’s wrong with it anyway? She is my girlfriend and it is my responsibility to take care of her well-being.
If I left her there with no one to drive her home or even if I called for a ride, it was not possible nothing bad will happen to her. It is my duty to ensure she reaches home safe. I took my time and drove 40kph back after I dropped her off. Whether or not my parents kept on reminding me to come early, this is nothing but business for them and it did not matter to me in any way.
If this was one of our official varsity meeting in baseball, I would have even gone ten minutes before it starts but this wasn’t.
My parents looked at me astounded by my profession. Okay, I was not supposed to say that, was it? Well then, it looks like I’ve hit a home run again.
"Asshole." The bitch commented. "Ouch! Stop it, Caber!" She roared in anger. She was heaving in pain as she caressed her legs.
Tita Melissa took those seconds to calm her nerves before she remarked. "Oh, ha ha, that is, um, that's so sweet of you."
"By the way, you're batchmates, right?" Mom asked the girl in her left what turned out to be somewhat a statement as soon as Tita Melissa is done speaking.
"I am not really aware," she said slightly suggesting disrespect.
I was out of words. She's joking, right? There isn't a chance anyone, specially in school, to not know someone like me. Because as far as I know, I am the most popular guy in UP! (University of Parametris)
This is sick. I've known her yet she doesn't know me at all? Hilarious, she's got to be kidding me.
"That doesn't surprise me, not at all," the four-eyed boy in my left said and laughed heartily along with the one beside the bitch. "Oh yea, by the way, Sean." He held out his right hand. I shook it.
"Hahaha, me either," commented the other. "Caber," he did the same as his brother.
They're twins, not to mention it is so obvious. The only difference in their countenance is Caber has a cut in his left eyebrow while Sean doesn't and wears thick eyeglasses.
"You're really something Ella." Tita said as she shook her head.
Bitch didn't make any eye contact with anyone of us. She only eyed her food. She really gets into my nerves. The way she said those insults are so calculated and at her slightest suggestion of disrespect towards my mom was what made me took umbrage! What the hell is wrong with you, bitch?!
"Anyways," dad interrupted and as if on cue we looked to his direction, including Bitch.
"Regardless of whatever your reasons are, we're delighted by your presence, son." He enunciated and smiled eloquently at Tito Tony's direction. "Since both of you are here, I might as well take this chance to state the sole purpose of our sudden visit."
"I'll be straight to the point. The first collaborative project of The Medicine, Inc. and the Monolith Constructions, Corp., as all of you may know, is the Incline House Project that is supposed to house the elderlies. That being said, as both of you are old enough to know your limitations, we've come to an agreement that the two of you be together in the first fully decorated and furnished house. It is for you to criticize if it's enough for them and if the services are of comfort. You'll be staying there for 4 weeks starting tomorrow. Ah, also, don't get your imaginations hyped-up, you're not getting married, too young for that."
What the fuck?!
"Dad, are you serious?" I bolted to my feet, unable to contain my frustrations any longer. I turned to mom’s direction. "Mom, what the hell is this? Are you out of your minds? I have a girlfriend!" I have nothing else say. I'm fucking speechless.
What the hell is wrong with them?! If this reaches Kim, she would probably be mad. Worse case, she might even break up with me. I won't let that happen! And the fuck? Me? Stay with her? Alone in one house? That's a big no-no!
"Can you not overreact Kenneth? You'll only be staying with Ella in one house, not in one room."
Mom was eyeing me, demanding to come to my senses and sit down. I acquiesced.
"'Overreact...'" I repeated the word in utter disbelief.
"Mom! Have you even considered my case? This is doubtlessly in favor of Ella! To stay with someone as handsome as me in one house? Wow, that's just totally unfair. . . And you know I have Kim. I have a girlfriend! Have you ever thought what she would think of this arrangement? Have you ever thought it's also unfair for her?!"
I clearly want to get out of this house. The frustrations I am feeling are growing. I am so enraged of their decisions! Is my life in their hands?! Instead of answering me, she faced Ella. "Since Ella is not conceding nor repudiating, it's fine with you, right, dear?"
I glared at her, but damn it! What's the point? She doesn't even make any eye contact.
Instead of her, Tito Tony was the one who answered mom.
"Of course, she is."
"Shut it." I was about to refute when she spoke.
Our attentions was drawn to her without delay.
"I don't want to hear another nonsense talk." She said then got back to her food. Silence. There was a minute of silence. She continued her disturbed eating and her brothers awkwardly followed her as they have nothing else to do.
They were savoring their wuzetkas. On the meantime, a message ringtone from my phone broke the silence.
From Angry Daddy:
'Kenneth, why can't you just agree to it? It's not like you two will get married.'
Can't they stop for a while?! I need a fucking break! I started typing.
To Angry Daddy:
'Are you kidding, dad? You know I won't agree in the first place so might as well stop.'
Dad replied. 'Pick: You'll approve it or you'll experience what you don't want?'
'And what will you do dad? You can't do anything, you know mom, she will not let you do anything bad to me.'
After seeing the note 'Sent.', I looked at dad with a proud face. I know mom would not let dad do anything to harm me in any way. She's the most protective mom and she doesn't want any single scratch in my body, specially in the face. In short, she's my spoiler.
I saw dad clenching his teeth, his brows lining up. But then he turned into producing a teasing smile. This is bad. He showed mom our conversation. I can see how angry she was; cartoonish as it may seem but fumes was what she expelled in her nose and ears. Mom started typing in dad's phone.
From Angry Daddy:
'You! Kenneth Davis! How could you say this stupid things to your dad! Huh?! I didn't spoil you on anything! Don't you even have any traces of guilt in your body?!'
Oh no... Mom was the one who replied to me. Slowly, I directed my eyes to her to have and take a look. I was mistaken, her nose was exhaling fire and not fumes in her fury.
Oh no, this is really, really, really bad.
I looked at dad. And he was smirking.
Mom sent a message to me again using dad's phone.
From Angry Daddy:
'YOU ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE YOUR CAR BACK. YOUR CLOTHES. YOUR ACCESSORIES. YOUR SHOES. AND EVERYTHING!'
Caps locked. I looked at mom, she wasn't kidding, she's really angry, she's going to take everything from me! What have you done, Kenneth?!
I heard a ringtone from my phone again.
'Well then, let's have a deal. Choose: I'll take
e v e r y t h i n g
or you'll agree to be with Ella?'
I'm truly sick of this topic!
I replied showing how dignified I am. 'No, mom. That is unfair.'
'Oh, is that so? ' She replied back.
Is being repressive what they learned in the business industry?! They're too business-minded, too persuasive, too subduing to even talk back!
'It's a big NO-NO, mom! You heard her. She's not also agreeing to it!' I reasoned out.
Why are they putting all the pressure on me now?!
'That is why, it's all in your choice. You disagree, then I'll take everything. But if you decided to go and live with Ella, then it's the other way around. I think I might even give you your long dream car. Maserati GranCabrio, isn't it?'
My mouth definitely opened. How? Just how can I reject that offer? Argh.
I looked at my parents. Mom was dead serious, and as for dad, he's teasing, again.
Cars are definitely my sole weakness.
In this game, I lost.
"Okay, I'll give it a try." I said aloud. Everyone looked at me including her with her almost aligning eyebrows. Sigh. What have I done now? None of us spoke. After another second she stood up, and walked out of the room. We were in the depths of silence until dad interrupted yet again.
"What are you doing Ken? Follow her!"
"Da--" As I was about to protest, my mom glared at me. I am feeling more and more assured that I'm not her son. I sighed in submission. "Fine."
I stepped out in the room and found her sitting and focused somewhere beyond the walls on their backyard. There was a vast pool in front of her. I saw her laying down in one of the lounge seats beside the pool.
"Hey," I said feeling so awkward. She turned to me and our eyes met for the third time. She is the first one to look away, rolling her eyes. Obviously annoyed.
"Don't imagine things, it's not like I originally want it."
She did not answer.
"I guess you have difficulty in speaking?"
Again, she did not speak.
"I heard you're taking Medicine and you're the one who'll inherit most of the family's money and the company. Maybe they're going to get us both married after some time. You know, I am also our family's first born and the only inherit-"
She suddenly stood up.
"You can go back now. I dare not talk to someone's pet." She said without even stumbling in her own words.
"Pet? Do you hear yourself, lady?" She's really adept on how to annoy someone making me grow more aggraviation towards her.
"Guilty, eh?" She said, raising an eyebrow.
"I am not a pet." I cannot keep it anymore. Annoyance can be traced on the way I talked.
"You've been manipulated, how can you say you're not a pet?" She said now looking at me.
"It's not like you're going to believe whatever it is I say."
"And it's not like I want to know your story." She then returned to her original position.
I did not answer and she pretended to be all alone in this place.
Sometimes, it's really better to stay quiet because once you explain things up, they'll just interpret and turn it into 'reasons'.
