BEST FRIENDS or SOULMATES?

When two best friends fight, it feels like fighting with your own soul. That one person who knows how you feel, and understand what you are going through sometimes better than yourself. Soulmates are not just lovers, simply they are your significant other who sees through you without judging you, and more importantly who can protect you and walk in danger for you without hesitation, because they know you’ll do the same.

One night, Angelica came and lay next to Griselda. They became a bit distant, since the day in the café because they are both mad at each other.

· ANGELICA: Do you hate me?

· GRISELDA: When did I ever hate you?

· ANGELICA: Now! Do you?

· GRISELDA: What do you want?

· ANGELICA: Did you notice that we are talking with questions and no answers?

· GRISELDA: Are we?

· ANGELICA: Stop it. We didn't talk about Jonathan or much since that night. Are you okay? Or rather, are we okay?

· GRISELDA: Sort of.

· ANGELICA: Short answers! Okay, tell me what's going on in that big head of yours. What are you thinking of? Correction: what were you thinking of since that day?

· GRISELDA: Ok, first, my head is not big. Second, I'm afraid I wronged him, and I didn't give him a chance to explain as you said.

· ANGELICA (looking at her with a concerned look): Wait, don't take my words literally. I didn't say you are wrong, but you may have made a mistake not giving him a chance to explain. However, it's his fault he didn't talk to you as he did with his mother.

· GRISELDA: Maybe, but I should've heard him. I was confused; I can't stop thinking whether he is honest or not. I've been thinking since the day you told me that something bad happened that made him disappear.

· ANGELICA: I asked him, but he didn't tell me. His mother has no idea as well. He wanted you to know first, isn't that a little enough to prove that he deserves one ear?

· GRISELDA: I don't know how I'm going to look at his face. I'm afraid to hate him or leave when I see him. I honestly don't dare to talk to him because he seriously hurt me so bad. And that's one of the reasons why I can't talk to him. The one look at him will flashback just the bad memories instead of the good ones.

· ANGELICA: How do you know that that could happen? Imagine he's in front of you right now, what will your reaction be like?

· GRISELDA: I'll freak out more. (breathing heavily) Until then, I'll shake the tree and see what falls out.

Angelica was almost going to tell her that Jonathan is coming soon, but she wanted to let their meeting be a surprise for her. A few days later, Angelica was always thinking of how she's going to deal with both of them. Her concern was Griselda; she's the one who's going to get hurt. Yet, the Day is approaching, and Jonathan didn't tell Angelica that he'll be there in three days. One day, he surprised her in her part-time job. He entered the coffee shop where she works, she didn't notice him because she wasn't expecting to see him that soon, he walked forward and gave her his order.

· JONATHAN: Can I have a large cup of coffee with no sugar, please? And make it on you.

· ANGELICA (with a puzzled face): Excuse me! Oh my God, Jonathan, you came.

When she saw him, she forgot everything he did and rushed to hug him, but the sad situation is not just a nightmare. While they were greeting each other, they both suddenly remembered the snag that ruined their relationship and the actual moment.

· JONATHAN: Here I am. Home sweet home.

· ANGELICA: But how? You didn't tell me, I thought you'll be another month late. How are you here this early?

· JONATHAN: I wanted to surprise all of you by coming earlier. And the fact that you forgot my voice breaks my heart.

· ANGELICA: Well beautiful surprise though, happy to see you. How are you? How were your flights and everything?

· JONATHAN: Everything was good, I'm fine. What about you, little creature?

· ANGELICA (nervously): Everything is fine, you know the usual except the.. uh..

· JONATHAN: Yeah! Griselda! I know, I need to figure out how to talk to her first, then how to reconcile with her.

· ANGELICA: I'll help, but what am I going to do?

· JONATHAN: Just tell me where she is so I can go and face her.

· ANGELICA: Yeah! Okay, wait! What? Now?

· JONATHAN: Yes, the sooner the better!

· ANGELICA: No, not now, I don't understand why men are always so forward. I still have fifteen minutes to finish my work, and I'll go with you. You need to wait, you can't go alone you'll faint on your way there, I need to be with her, but I'll stay some feet away so you both can talk comfortably.

· JONATHAN: Okay, fine I'll wait here. And bring me that coffee, I was serious back there.

While he was waiting for her to finish, he took the coffee he ordered. After she had finished, they headed straight to the gym, where Griselda was at that time. While Jonathan was waiting for her outside, Angelica stood up a little bit far from them to not let Griselda see her. Minutes later, she got out of the gym, and there was his big surprise and her huge shock. Her feelings were perplexed, she didn't how to react, her emotions were mixed with happiness and anger. However, she didn't do any of the things she was thinking of; she stood frozen in her place. Suddenly, she walked away, and Jonathan was trying to catch up on her.

· JONATHAN: Please Griselda, just give me a second so I can explain. You can't just walk away without hearing me or know anything about what happened. Don't let your imagination take you away from me. I swear to god nothing of what you thought of is correct.

· GRISELDA (still walking hastily): How do you know what I was thinking about and how I imagined the situation?

· JONATHAN: I know you, Grise. I know that you only thought about the bad things. Just give me a chance to explain.

· GRISELDA: Save it Jona, I'm not listening, and I'm not going to either. Leave and go back to the new freaking life that you left me for.

· ANGELICA (approaching): Stop, Jonathan, wait.

· JONATHAN: What are you doing? I need to talk to her.

· ANGELICA: Just listen to me, we both know that she's not going to listen to you when she's angry or even talk to you right now. Just let her assimilate that you are here, and not imagining that. Give her a couple of days to think.

· JONATHAN: But... days are too much.

· ANGELICA: Trust me. Go now, I'm going to see her and talk to you later.

Jonathan went to Pervilli, to his parents' house, Angelica followed Griselda to check on her, but she couldn't find her anywhere. Eventually, she found her hiding in her safe spot in the roof of their building, crying silently.

· ANGELICA: It's not worth it, you know.

· GRISELDA: Not worth what?

· ANGELICA: Your tears... (mocking her) I'm confused right now, are these sad tears or the opposite?

· GRISELDA (with a poker face): You kidding me right? Go away, I'm okay.

· ANGELICA (with an angry tone): Oh, you are the furthest from okay. Tell me the truth, or I will leave and tell yourself the truth; if you don't want to be honest with me. At least don't pretense, and stop being a hypocrite with yourself. It's just you and YOU, and no one else. I'll be downstairs waiting for your decision about whether to talk to him or not. Humans make mistakes. Nobody's perfect, keep that in mind.

Angelica left Griselda wordless. Everyone has a way to express their feelings when they are speechless. Unlike Griselda, she has a lot to say, but she couldn't find a way to do so. On the other hand, she was thinking of an utterance Jonathan used to say, "Don't judge or prejudice. Just listen first". However, she was replaying in her mind what happened with Jonathan earlier, because at that time she didn't listen to a word he said and tried to focus only on escaping from him as fast as she could.,

Her feelings and thoughts were conflicting but paused in the middle of he's innocent and he's a liar road. She is going to talk to him eventually, she thought. However, she was thinking of the situation and discussing it with herself, "Why am I being so dramatic, it's not Doomsday for God's sake, it's no big deal. I'm going to talk to him to see what he has to say and send him off. It doesn't worth all the thinking and sadness or happiness or whatever those feelings are. Yes, let's go, girl, you are a grown-up woman", she said. She walked out the door as she stood up, and stopped "Dammit. I can't face him". Thereafter, Angelica suddenly showed up unexpectedly.

· ANGELICA: Any decision yet?

· GRISELDA (startled, and put her hand on her chest): Oh god! I almost cursed. You scared me.

· ANGELICA (suspiciously and mockingly speaking): She speaks. Why? What were you doing? Why you got scared? That means you were doing something bad, which you don't want it to be revealed.

· GRISELDA: Can you please be quiet, I'm thinking.

· ANGELICA: Of what?

· GRISELDA (after a brief silence): Okay, hypothetically speaking, what if and only IF I forgive him. Would things be the same as before?

· ANGELICA (serious ): Maybe not at the beginning, but it will be the same through time. Because now there is nothing that could stop you, unless if your love is cursed. Therefore, please stop thinking of what worse can happen and be positive; enough torturing yourself, and us with you.

· GRISELDA: Cursed is a strong word to say, though. Why would you be tortured?

· ANGELICA: So you do agree that there is torture happening here.

· GRISELDA: No! That was just a simple reaction to what you said.

· ANGELICA: Well, I'm team Jonelda, remember? Go talk to him and trust me, it's all going to be just fine. No sorrow lasts forever unless you want it to last.

· GRISELDA: That is really the dumbest name I have ever heard. If anything happ... (interrupted by Angelica)

· ANGELICA: Alright! Fella, move, move, move you little pessimistic thing.

Griselda thought that since there is no problem that can be on their way as before, she agreed to be a bit optimistic about their love. She went to talk to Jonathan, and be wise this time to make things right. The two poor lovers thought that after sadness happiness come, but they didn't think that things could be the other way round sometimes. Turns out Angelica wasn't right about sorrow.

If sorrow had chosen you, there is no way out until you crash the reason of that sorrow. Life sometimes or in some period could be a war zone, be either the hunter or the prey. However, Griselda went nervously to Jonathan's house, who just woke up and didn't expect to see her that day or that early, but what more shocking is what she came to say, and the story she'll hear.
