11. The Dream

I started to hear a scream. I tried to look around, but all I could see was darkness. Soon enough, I see a light shining through the dark. I start traveling closer to it curiously. The scream got louder the closer I got to the light. Once the light started to hit my skin, I let out a small gasp.

Lightning strikes the ground before me, slightly missing me. I continue to walk forward towards the scream as thunder follows the lightning. Suddenly, she floats down from the sky like an angel falling from heaven. "Were you looking for me?" She asked but I didn't reply. I couldn't reply.

She started to laugh as a voice from above mocked, "Cat caught your tongue?" It echoed as she started to soar in the sky right above me. "I.." I muttered, but nothing followed. I continued to walk forward, then a white door appeared.

Once I got to the door, she fell in front of it. She groaned out in pain. "H.. help." She cried out, but I just stood there staring at her on the ground, frozen in fear. Whispers came from all around me saying, "Help her. Help her." But I didn't. I couldn't.

It was like my feet were concreted onto the ground. I couldn't move. I could only stare at her crying out in agony. Who did this to me? Why can't I help her?! Just staring at her makes me sick to my stomach. She doesn't deserve this.

Suddenly, it became silent. She disappeared and the door opened. A booming, deep voice said from behind it, "Fear. It weighs you down." All of a sudden, I was pushed forward and the door was slammed shut behind me. "FEAR!" The voice yelled. A demon came out of the shadows afterwards and he seemed like he was the one with the voice. "Fear. It kept you from saving her. Now she burns..." he whispers, but it turns into a holler, "IN THE PITS OF HELL!"

He pushed me to the ground. My back and side starts to hurt as he kicks me, making me unable to get up and fight back. "I..." I start to talk but he yells, "SILENCE!" His yell echos off of the walls until, once again, it's pitch black.

I wake up back in the hospital, shivering in fear. The most important thought of all was, "Why? Why couldn't I save her?" As I sigh, Alaina walks into the room. "Are you okay? Are you cold?" She asks and I shake my head. "I.. I had a nightmare." I tell her and she nods. "Aww baby." She says and wraps her arms around me, "It's okay. I'm here."

Even with those words leaving her mouth, I still shiver. She makes me feel safe, yes, but what happens if she disappears?

"Here's your medicine." She says and I take it. "The doctor wants you to get a lot of rest today." She adds and I nod, "Okay."

It didn't take me long to fall asleep once more. My head started to spin while I doze off. The dream consisted of a beach that went on for miles and miles. We were walking along the coast as the sun went down. She looked over at me as I walked into the ocean, getting my feet wet. As she got closer, I splashed her with water.

"Hey! This is the only pair of clothing I brought!" She shouted and I laughed. "I told you you should've brought another pair!!" I replied and she rolled her eyes. "Well, at least the hotel has a laundry room." I said as she walks into the water. She splashed me back and I laugh. "Unlike you, I brought two more pairs!" I teased, sticking my tongue out. "Yeah, yeah." She said, rolling her eyes and splashing me once more.

We were completely soaked when we decided to get out the water. I had the idea to look up at the stars. We laid down on the sand together, hand in hand. "The stars are beautiful." She says and I chuckle, "Yeah. But honestly, not as beautiful as you are." She smiles and looks over to me. I look back and she leans in, making me smile. I lean in closer and her lips land on mine. Pulling back, we cuddle underneath the stars.

I wake up due to a bang. Startled, I look around. "Sorry baby. I had to move the chair." She told me and I smile. "It's okay." I tell her and she nods. The doctor walks in and asks if everything is alright. I nod and say, "Yes, I am feeling a little better." He nods and writes on a piece of paper. "You'll be healing for about two weeks, but you'll get to be discharged in a few days." The doctor says as I close my eyes, hoping I'll fall asleep once more. Alaina replies, "Thank you, sir." as I drift off.
