Time: Dead of the Night

Outside of Mizukage's Residence

[Haku]

.

'Is this... Really the right way?'

I kept asking that question to myself over and over again, during the whole assembly.

The reason for my self-doubt was...

My lord wanted to take Yagura-sama's head by day break. And even though my conscience told me that this plan was flawed, and we should abort it as soon as possible, I just couldn't say no, to my lord.

In the end I decided.

'Life or death… Doesn't matter. I will fulfill my duty as Zabuza-sama's tool…'

.

Time passed.

.

Two-Third of the Resistence's forces were around Kirigakure while only a few were in the main headquarters. Mostly the non-combatant and logistics personnel.

And among the ones we had, only a few of the strong members were missing. So the situation wasn't that unfavorable for us.

But not having Mei-sama and Ao-san caused a dent in our combat power. Only I and Zabuza-sama knew how important that Byakugan and Mei sama's twin bloodline was… Rgeir absence will surely be felt...

But there was no point in brooding over spilled milk. So I prepared the best I could. I checked and rechecked on all the supplies and tools, making sure we didn't miss a thing.

Failure was not an option tonight. And being over cautious might just save my and my lord's life.

'Yes, my lord's life is more important than my own. And I will fulfill the vow I made to him tonight if the need arises…' I thought silently.

I then looked to my right, at the tall man, staring menacingly at the Mizukage's residence.

Just from his gaze the hatred was clear as a crystal. I just hope his hatred doesn't cloud his judgment later.

I knew that I was asking for too much. Because in my heart, I already knew… Zabuza-sama… Wasn't in the right state of mind.

I sighed inaudibly and looked around. Surrounding us were hundreds of trees. And on those hundreds of trees hid thousands of the Resistance's ninjas.

I knew many of them personally. Some I could even call good acquaintances.

And in their eyes, I saw no fear.

It was surprising really.

Even though every one of them knew about the danger that awaited them. Their eyes were resolute, their minds were made. They were ready… Ready to see a new dawn under a new and better leader. They no longer wanted to be oppressed under the rule of Yagura...

I sighed lightly once more and steeled my heart.

This was no time for having second thoughts. Only a new future awaits for everyone. Whether that is a bright or a dark one, no one could tell.

.

.

.

An hour later

.

We have made it inside the residence with ease.

There were some guards, but the numbers were so underwhelming that it felt ridiculous.

Zabuza-sama had ordered an unit to stand guard outside to intercept any reinforcements, so we didn't have to worry about our backs getting stabbed and kept moving forward with resolution.

Zabuza-sama was already covered in red warm blood. His ninjato never seemed to stop swinging.

And in no time at all, we arrived at the fated room…

.

Something started tugging at my heart again. And looking around I could tell that it wasn't only me. Even my lord stopped, a frown was drawn on his face.

The way here was truly too easy. The trap we anticipated, yet didn't encounter, even a child could tell that something was out of place.

This made my lord slow his pace and think. And at that sight I could only thank the heavens… At least my lord didn't lose all his reason…

It was then that I heard him speak, "Haku… Do you think that the real trap is in there?" He asked while pointing at the large door ahead.

It was the door to the bed chambers of Yagura.

And considering the fact that he didn't come out even after so long… Could only indicate one thing.

Inside that door, a very difficult battle was waiting for us. It could even be our last.

Taking a deep breath I nodded slowly to answer my lord. To which he didn't show any reaction. He simply waved his hand and the elites understood his meaning.

He then said softly, "All those that are under Jonin… Enter."

That was a cruel order to give, but that's just how this world works.

All the chunins were preparing to enter. They knew that certain death awaited them, but they had to follow orders. I also started advancing but was stopped by my lord as he put a hand on my shoulder.

I tilted my head in confusion, because I too was one of those under Jonin level. So it was only fair that I entered as well.

But my lord stopped me for some reason. And because of that delay… I guess I was saved?

*FWOOOSH*

As soon as the chunins were about to open the door, a water blade came slicing all of them, taking more than half of their lives.

The ones in the back managed to survive with some serious injuries, but survive they had.

All eyes were staring at the same direction, where a figure stood in all his might. The Fourth Mizukage, Karatachi Yagura in his battle gear.

.

.

.

Yagura spoke in a cold tone, "So you were the ones causing the commotion… And judging by your action so far… You must be the traitors I have been looking for…

Hmm…

I see now…

You used that fake information to make me get rid of most of the guards…

Clever…

But if you think that you can win just because I don't have my guards… Then you will find out how wrong you were."

I frowned after hearing Yagura's speech.

'We used fake information? Wasn't it he himself done that to create this trap? No…

I don't sense anyone else in the vicinity.

Is Yagura really alone? Then…' I was thinking furiously, but my question was answered by my lord…

"We were both played…" Zabuza-sama said while gritting his teeth. But then he seemed to smile and show those crazed eyes again.

"Then this also means… There is no trap… This is GODSENT. ATTACK!" He yelled.

And we all attacked together.

Our goal was simple.

Take down Yagura, gain back the peace of Kiri.

And to achieve that goal and fulfill our Oath we charged. A new future awaits.

.

.

.

A few hours later

.

'This doesn't make any sense…' I thought as I lay in the wreckages of stone and dirt, all bloody and bruised.

Somehow I was still alive. But I couldn't say the same for the others.

'I wonder how many survived… Hope my lord is still alive…' I thought worriedly as I tried to get up.

Then thought back to the scene that occurred not so long ago.

I dare say that the thing was no human.

It was beyond a demon even.

I guessed that the rumors about him harboring a demon was true.

I slowly and with difficulty sat up and took a view of my surroundings.

Nothing was left.

It was all rubble. As far as eyes could see there were only paths of destruction and I knew the man behind all that.

The fight now feels so surreal. The whole concept of killing that demon now feels humorous.

I thought back to the moment we all jumped in to attack. It was going well. In fact, we were winning. No matter how strong Yagura was, he was still only one man, while we had an overwhelming numbers advantage with over two dozen Jonin level ninjas working together to take him out.

And when we felt that we had him cornered and the long awaited revenge would be served… He changed…

A blue aura started leaking from him and a tail grew behind him. Changing his appearance to a more demonic one.

And then… He attacked… No, he started his slaughter.

The elites were the first to die as they were the closest and in took the full burnt of Yagura's wrath.

Zabuza somehow survived and made an order to retreat.

He knew very well that this battle was already out of hand.

He then looked at me and ordered me to gather all the rebels outside and retreat.

I didn't want to comply with that order but I had little choice in the matter so I ran. I ran with a heavy heart but I had to fulfill the order given to me by my lord.

And no sooner I was outside, the whole residence burst apart and I could see Yagura in the middle of the impact.

*BOOM. Crash*

I mustered all my strength to shout, "RETREAT!"

And with that one signal most of the stunned ninjas started moving. The ones that were still spellbound…

*sigh*

I could only watch them get slaughtered like helpless cattle.

And I started to run. Not in the direction of the exit but the direction of my lord's last appearance.

There was no way in hell that I was leaving my lord behind… But alas! The heavens were cruel as I felt an enormous chakra compressing near me and saw that the beast had his own plans.

That monster...

He gathered massive chakra in to his form and cast a forbidden Jutsu that drowned the whole area for a few miles. Causing destruction in the wake of its massive tides.

"... I can't believe he used that inside his own village..."

Before I could do any more… I was swept away.

And I remember nothing after that till I woke.

I have no idea where I am… The surroundings seem unfamiliar, I was sure that the wave has swept me off the village for sure. So I with great difficulty stood up and tried to look for a high ground so that I could scout the area.

And I soon found a hilltop.

I tried to peer in the distance. And my heart dropped.

I was wrong.

I was still inside the village.

Well… What's left of it anyway…

From the hilltop I could see that more than a quarter of the village was in ruins and a few places were flooded.

'He did that to his own village? All those innocents…' I couldn't think further as tears streamed down my cheeks.

I just prayed. Prayed to whoever was watching.

That I could at least find Zabuza.

.

[A/N: Hey there, beautiful people! Ah Ygura was the strongest Jinchuriki after 8 tails, Jinchuiriki, Killer Bee. So his strength is no joke. As for his personality and atrocities he did, not much was written in Naruto, so I applied my creator's touch and imagination.
