Chapter 5

Although they were too young when he left to remember his face, the mother's reaction is all they needed. This was their father, Nick Reeds. He tied Megan up to a chair next to her mother and sister. Then he said, "Good! The family is all back together. Now there is an issue that needs to be addressed. Alessia, we have a debt to settle so if you would be so kind as to come with me." With that he untied Megan's mother, grabbed her by a chunk of her hair and her arm, and violently dragged her out of the room. Megan could hear her mother's struggle all the way down the hallway and to the outside where she heard the outside door close. Megan knew she needed to help her mother so she quickly managed to free herself and her sister and ran off after her mother and father. She found a trail of blood in the hallway leading to outside and knew it was her mother's. She continued running, but as the trail of blood got thicker and the splattered drops got closer together, she knew her mother's time was running out. She followed the blood to a path in the forest and as the blood trail continued she found herself following the blood instead of the forest path. Her father was taking her mother off of the path for a reason and Megan unfortunately knew what that reason was. He was going to kill her. Megan found her mother knelt down on the floor, blood streaming from her nose. "There he is," she shouted. "Watch out before he...!" But before Megan could turn to look, she screamed, gasped, and fell to the floor. Megan rushed by her side but realized it was too late and she couldn't do anything. Her mother had a bullet in her forehead. She knew that at least her mother had a nearly painless death. Quickly, Megan turned around to find her father standing there holding a gun. Megan stood up and ran for her life.
