Red like blood

Instead, Bai Yue's expression turned even more unhinged and she let go of her mother's arm to burst out into a fit of laughter. "Mother," she said between two laughs, her eyes furrowed with tears, "~the color of your coat is so pretty! So red! Just like blood! How nice would it be if I could paint the world in blood and tears!~"

Her laughter grew louder. A moment later, thunder rumbled in the sky and a bolt of lightning lit up Bai Yue's bloodthirsty smile and white teeth for a short moment. As the ominous sight was reflected in Madam Fu's and her maid's eyes, she inwardly wondered whether the gods were working with her.

Her mother paled.

"Yue'er, you... you..." For once, Madam Fu was at a loss for words. She opened her mouth again several times but nothing came out. The words were stuck in her throat.

"Mother?" Bai Yue inquired with her head tilted to the side. "You don't agree with me?"
