Mysterious Couple (2)

[Anna's POV]

As if the day was already not bad enough, now I had a dead phone on me with no connection to the outside world.

I was looking around to find a phonebooth somewhere, even though I knew that the hope to find it was close to none as it was a secluded hilly area.

As for the cherry on top that you may ask for, it started pouring down and when I say it was raining heavy, oh I mean it !

Suddenly, someone tapped me on the shoulder and I looked back to find the old man from the bus, there was an old woman beside him, probably his wife.

I greeted them with a nod to which they smiled as a response. "May I help you?" I asked in a polite tone even though I was confused as to why they approached me.

"Child, we live in the village nearby and have room for extra, as our children are out of town. Would you like to come with us?" the old woman asked me in a kind tone.

I tried to deny them but they kept insisting saying it was nearby and they lived in a safe neighborhood. At last, as you would've guessed, I could do nothing but agree.

I know I chose an obvious red flag but staying in an old couple's house in a village seems like a better idea anyday than being at a bus stop of a secluded hill, in the rain, all alone without my phone.

I took out my umbrella and followed them on the way to their house, while praying to God that I don't end up dead.

I could see a group of houses arranged in a neat manner, when suddenly both of them stopped and turned around.

They smiled and said, "We've reached. Welcome to our village!"

I smiled in return and followed them into the array of houses. I could soon see a house which they said was their home. It was a medium sized cottage just enough for a family to comfortably live in.

My lips twitched as I heard them talk about how simple and humble their home was. As I walked towards the cottage, I saw vines growing along the walls, the insects making noises in the rain.

When suddenly there was a thunder and I could see a lightning flash behind the house. I felt a pit in my stomach, which grew stronger as I came closer but I couldn't run away now as I was deep into the village.

Well, maybe it's just the rain that's making an aesthetic home creepy, right? And even if something were to happen I can defeat a few people. I took a deep breath as we reached the door and they welcomed me into their home.

Soooo, I was going to stay in this place until the next morning or at least till the sky is clear. Okay, it's going to be okay, I'm thinking too much.

It was evening by the time I reached their home, so they offered me dinner but I denied by saying I already had it. I went into the room they gave me and first checked for cameras for mics and then sat down.

I took out a salad I had bought from a store on the way and ate it silently. After making sure that my door was securely locked, I still put a chair against it.

Finally, I sat down in relief. I thought of this as a getaway but what I got was nothing but a series of endless troubles.

Just as I thought I'm done for the day and was going to lay down on the bed, well, to say the least, what I never expected happened and scared the sh*t out of me.
