Kayla's POV
I don't know for how long I had my eyes closed, but I never fell asleep. I just couldn't fall asleep. I was scared that Patrick's face would come into my dreams and hunt me. And I don't think I could handle that at the moment that I had killed him, plus his kid was here and I promised him I would take good care of him. Now I had to take care of two kids, Jasper and Jace. I would understand if Jace hated me for killing his father taking his only blood relative from him.
"How long as she been like this?" I heard Tyler ask someone. Honestly, I didn't even know what time it was or how long I've been with my eyes closed.
"She's been like this for the whole day. It's seven PM right now," someone answered for him, which sounded like Caleb. I've been like this for the whole day?
I felt a small hand on my forehead "You know she's awake and she's listing to you as we speak," I heard Jasper tell them. The kid knew me too well and he was too smart for his own good. How the heck can he tell that I'm awake?
"How you know?" they asked him.
For some reason I knew Jasper had a smile on his face "Because I know my mother, even if I've only known her for at least three to five day," Jasper said making my heart skip some beats from him calling me his mother.
I decided I should speak for myself "Jazz, you know me too well," I said opening me my eyes for the first time in the whole day like they said. I looked at Jasper who in fact had that smile of his in his face making his face brighter with happiness. I looked around "Where is Jace? I thought you were with him," I said to him looking for the kid.
The kid's head popped from the seat in front of me "I'm right here," he said softly. His dark blue eyes reminding me of the man I murdered even if he wasn't a Walker and was turning into one. He was still human when I killed him.
I looked at the kid "How you feeling, Jace?" I asked him softly not wanting to raise my voice.
Jace nodded "I'll be ok. I mean, I have you and Jasper, so I know I won't be alone even if we aren't blood relative," he told me sounding mature. He was growing too fast like Jasper and I didn't like it. Kids were supposed to grow at their own pace this is hell is making them grow too fast and making them see things that would affect them mentally and emotionally.
I gave him a small smile "I'm sorry," I told him and looked down at my hands not wanting to see the same dark blue eyes as Patrick. I felt small unrecognizable arms that I didn't know and my body stiffed by its own.
"Don't," I heard the soft voice of Jace on my ear. I guess he didn't hate me at all.
I placed my head on his little shoulder "You know I thought you would hate me for that, but I promise you that I would take care of you if you let me," I looked at Jace and Jasper "I'll take care of both of you, ok," I told them and shuffled both their hairs.
They laughed "Mom," Jasper said and fixed his hair, but Jace let be messy.
"Sky," I heard my brother call me. I had totally forgotten that Caleb and he was there watching me.
I looked at Tyler and smiled "Bro, sup," I said to him trying to hide my shock.
He shooked his head "You ok? I mean you've been out of it the whole day," he told me looking worried and nervous.
I smirked "Yeah, I'm totally fine just getting to know little Jace here," I said pointing at Jace who was now sitting in his seat in front of me with Jasper talking about something.
Tyler nodded "You got your hands full," he told me and ruffled my hair walking back to his seat next to Ciara. I saw him take her hand and bring one of her hands to his lips to kiss it. I guess their back together. I looked and saw Caleb looking at me. I felt a bunch of emotion coming of him making me slightly dizzy. I could feel his anger, fear, regret, love, and betrayal.
I held my head "Ok, what is up with you? Your angry, scared, regret, love and betrayed that's what you're feeling right now and it's driving me crazy," I whispered to him not loud enough for other people to hear. I heard him sit next to me, because the others just stayed away from me. They all sat at the back and only my friends stayed in the front with me, except Jackie. She's been trying to get laid the whole time with this Italian guy that was a tourist visiting his cousin, before everything went down the drain.
"Do you what to know why I feel angry and betrayed?" he asked me and I nodded. "Because Sam kissed you and you didn't pull back. Do you know how I felt seeing my girlfriend being kissed by another guy? It feels horrible," he whispered yelled, but only I heard him. Wait did he just say I'm his girlfriend? Now I was confused with my feelings. I like Caleb a lot and I never got over him, but Sam keeps popping in my head. His real smile was still in my mind and the way his lips felt on my own. They felt soft and made my soul feel completed like it had everything it wanted and I could already imagine my lips pressed against his again. I felt the heat rising from within me and also another kind of heat started where I never thought I would get it (if you know what I mean). I pushed those feelings away, so that I could answer him.
I looked at him "I'm sorry you feel like that, but I couldn't pull away," that last part slipped from my lips. Damn, now I was in trouble.
"Why couldn't you pull away? All you had to do was fucking push him away," he whispered yelled again.
I looked away "I don't know," I whispered lowly and I thought he didn't catch what I said, but I was wrong.
Caleb looked hurt "You like him don't you?" he asked me and it made me feel guilty, but I couldn't lie to him. I owned him that much to be honest to him.
"I like both of you, but you guys make it so hard to choice. I'm so confused with my feelings that I can't get them straight and I have my hands full with everything else to, so don't blame me for having screwed up feelings and not having them straighten out," I told him. I saw a flicker of hope in his eyes and I knew he came up with something.
Caleb suddenly stood up and walked away planning something that I knew I wasn't going to like. I was anxious and I didn't like it. Plus with these new powers surfacing had me worried and scared, because I don't know if I can control them. I could feel people's feeling and body heat, feel the Walker's and manipulate fire. Yeah, it was cool manipulating fire, but my clothes burn away and I don't want to standing if front of other people butt naked. Next time Granny visits me (if that happens) I will ask her what I have to do to control them and or how to block them. I didn't want to hurt anyone, because I would feel really bad. So next time my Granny comes to visit me I will ask her.
Jace's POV
I would be lying if I told you I wasn't sad about my father being killed by her hand, but I knew he made the choice. I heard them talking about it, because she was talking loud enough for everyone to hear. She told him he had a choice to whether he wanted to die as one of those things that she and her group calls Walker's or he could die human. My father chose to die human, but she had to grant him his last wish and that was to take care of me. She said she would, but when she came back after killing my father she looked different like the confidence she had before was gone form her body.
The first time I saw her I was stunned by her goddess features. She had bright violet eyes, a brunette, curvy, five-foot-five and had beautiful tan skin. She face was smooth and she showed no emotion, but when she looked at the guy with the same eyes as her and the kid (who now I knew was called Jasper) her eyes would sparkle. But when she came back from the woods she wouldn't look at anyone not even me or Jasper. She just sat down leaned her head back and closed her eyes. She had stayed like that the whole time without moving.
The others just watched her from a distance seeing if she was ok, but she showed no signs. She just looked asleep. I heard other said that she was turning into on of those things, but I didn't believe it because I knew what she could do. I saw it the moment she came in with bite marks and she was dead for an hour. Jasper and the other violet eyed guy had gone insane and had started fighting, but two other guys held them down and this girl stood over her body protectively an hour later she woke up. I was amazed by her. She had told me she was sorry and I knew what she meant and I finally understood her a little.
She never wanted to kill my father much less when she found out I was his son and I was here. My father always had me by his side and he hid me away from the others, but now he had no other choice but to let be by her side.
I looked at Jasper who was next to me with a smile on his face. He was an inch taller than me, dirty blond hair, brown-green eyes, and tan skinned and slim. I could tell he used to be very skinny, because he still looked skinny but not much. We had talked after his mom had talked to me and told me she was going to take care of me and Jasper and we had out laugh, while she was talking with this other guy. I was curious by his 'mother' as he calls her and I had to know a little about her from someone that knew her. "Jasper," I said.
He looked at me "What's up?" he asked me.
I looked at him about to be sarcastic but thought better of it "Tell me a little about her. Your 'mom', I mean" I told him. I saw his smile widen and his eyes sparkled in admiration for her.
"What would you like to know?" he asked me. I thought about that for a minute. What do I like to know about her? I mean, she's a total stranger to me and I knew nothing of her. My father always told me never to talk to strangers and now I was left with a stranger. I mean she could kill me or rape me. Ok, that last part wasn't true, because she would have already raped Jasper and if she had Jasper would have kept his distance from her. But he's always near her, so I figured I wanted to know how they meet.
"I guess the beginning should be fine. You know, how you two met and all," I told him.
Jasper nodded "Ok. We met two or three day ago," he told me and I couldn't hide the surprise or the shock on my face.
"But you look like you known her all your life," I told him.
He nodded again "Yeah, I just pay attention and I can read people like a book even if they mask their emotions like she does," he told me.
I nodded to him telling him to continue.
He took a deep breath and let it out "Anyway like I was saying, I've only known her for two or three days. I lost track. I was out in the highway hiding behind a car away from the Walker's. I hadn't feed for the past three days and I was hungry, thirsty, dirty and scared. Your group abandoned me," he told me and I saw the anger appear in his brown-green eyes. I didn't know he was with the group of people that I was in. I guess that's why my father never left me alone.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know," I told him.
He shrugged "It's cool, bro. So like I was saying, I was scared, dirty, thirsty and hungry for three days. The next day at night, she found me. I had seen the bus stop on the road and she stepped out of it. I couldn't hear her steps, but she walked by the Walker's with confidence and gracefulness and I was scared she was going to do something to me. So, I didn't trust her at first. She came to me with her silent walk and I had flinched away, but she didn't back down," he said taking a breather to continue.
"But I took her hand anyway and she helped me on my feet stumbling onto her though she didn't mind. She just held me close to her, but not for long. She had picked me up and walked back to her bus side stepping the Walker's. She feed me and gave me clothes," he told me and his smiled was still planted on his face. "At first look, she would cold-hearted and strict, but she was a kind person at heart. She was strong for her friends and do you know why no one questions her on her decisions?" he asked me.
I shaked my head "No, I don't know. I just figured they were scared of her, because of what she can do," I honestly told him.
He shaked his head "Their not scared of her because of her abilities, except maybe Jackie, but she's a bitch and a slut. They follow her and don't question her, because she keeps them alive. She would take any risk for us without a second thought. Remember when we found you guys?" he asked me and I nodded.
How could I forget that nightmare? We were saved by the two guys that were holding him and the violet eyed guy down, when she supposedly died. "Yeah, I remember," I told him. "The black haired guy and the dirty blond guy helped up out and saved us," I told him.
Jasper nodded "Because that was the plan," he told me.
Ok, now I was confused. "What do you mean, Jasper?" I asked him.
"Sky, was the mastermind of the plan," he told me. Sky, who is Sky? I guess the confused look on the name gave me away, because he answered my un-told question. "Sky, is my mother's nickname. Her real name is Kayla and the other guy that as the same violet eye color as her I her is her older brother, Tyler," he told me. Oh, so the violet eyes guy is her brother. Why couldn't I see that before? They do kind of look the same.
"Continue," I told him.
He chuckled "She came up with the plan of getting you guys out and that was to make a distraction and get someone else get you guys out," he told me. "And guess who did the distraction?" he told me.
"Who I asked," I asked me, but I had a feeling that I already knew the answer to that question. I just wanted to make sure my feeling was right.
He gave me an are-kidding-me look "Who do think? My mom was the distraction. She was distract the Walker's away from the bus, while Caleb, the black haired guy, and Sam, the dirty blond guy, helped you guys out. I thought she would have gotten out of the distraction, but she was stuck by the Walker's that's why I snapped at least she came back safe.
"She's like a mother to me, Jace. You can trust her, because look at me. I was bony and now I have meat on my bones and I'm healthy. She saved me and she's everything to me. I love her like a mother and sister, but mostly like a mother," he told me looking at the bus ceiling thinking deeply. "Tell me, if you were in the same situation as I was. Wouldn't you trust her with you life?" he asked me.
I thought about it for a moment. What would I have done if our roles were switched? Would I have put my life in her hands? Would I have trust her? Would I have loved her the way Jasper loves her? The answer was simple and I gave him the answer he wanted "Yeah, if our roles were switched I would have trusted her with my life," I told him.
Jasper nodded "Jace, what will you do now? Now that you know her a little; what will you do?" he asked me.
I thought again. Man, does he know how to make me think. I thought about what she told me. She had saved his life, she had kept ten people alive before us, and she was the one that had planned the rescue mission. She feed us and is keeping us alive through all of this. We had the same destination to Colorado, but would all of us make it? Could I trust her with my life? Will I get to know her better and start to like her like Jasper does? These questions were hard to answer on just on day and I didn't know the answer either. "I don't know," I told him and he just nodded.
He yawn "Well, you'll know soon enough," he told me and within seconds he was sleep. I looked out the bus window and everything was pitched black. What the heck am I suppose to do know?
Kayla's POV
I had heard the whole conversation Jasper had with Jace and I felt like crying. Jasper told him how we meet and all the way through his feelings for me. I loved him as my baby brother and like a son even if I am seventeen. Jasper had always been a sweetheart, but I didn't know he could see through me like a book even when I hide my emotions. He was one interesting kid.
Jasper had asked Jace a good question. What was Jace planning on doing from now on? And he thought about it and I could tell he was thinking about everything he had gathered from Jasper and in the end Jace told him he didn't know, but Jasper just told him that he would know soon enough; whatever that meant.
Caleb walked back to me and I knew he had finished his crazy plan, because his emotions were going haywire. He was super excited at whatever he was going to do and I was either going to hate it or get a surprise from it.
He sat down in the same spot he had before and looked at me "I'm going to fight for you and I wont fight fair not when it comes to you," he told me in his serious. Oh-huh, what the hell does he have planned? He suddenly stood up and face behind "Sam," he yell getting everyone's attention and waking Jasper up. Jace looked surprised, but Jasper looked a little mad for getting woken up.
Sam looked at Caleb "What?" he yelled back.
I saw a smirk appear on Caleb's lips "I'm not giving Sky up to you that easily," he said pointing a finger at him. Sam looked shocked "I will fight for her and I won't fight fair, because I know you have the same feelings for her as I do. I know you like her and I'm not giving her to you without a fight," Caleb said challenging Sam. Everyone was quite through all of this. Tyler, Jasper, Ciara, Jace, James, the teachers, me and everyone else were shocked at what he said.
Sam had that smirk of his "Fine, I'll gladly accept your challenge just you watch. Sky will pick me and not you," he told Caleb and looked at me "But there is just on thing Caleb got wrong, Sky. I don't like you," he said my heart beating a hundred miles per hour. "I'm in love with you and I'll admit it in front of everyone here even in front of your older brother and the kids, because I can't hide it anymore since that kiss I gave you I knew I ha to tell you. I'm fucking in love with you, Kayla Anderson," he said in front of everyone still looking at me and my heart beating like it wanted to come out of my chest.
Caleb, what have you done?
