Tyler's POV
I was still driving like a mad man through the highways and little towns, until we finally left the state of Tennessee. We were in Missouri and still I was driving like one of those people in Fast and the Furious. I love that movie it's awesome and the cars, so does my sister though I think she just likes it because of Ryan the blonde dude. I don't know which part of Missouri we were, but I know is that I was hearing a weird noise coming from the bus and it was slowing down.
I tried to go into speed again, but the bus was literally slowing to a stop in the middle of the fucking highway. Shit, Kayla is so going to kill me for breaking the bus, I thought as I tried to turn the damn thing on. "What's going on? Why did we stop Tyler?" Ciara asked me.
I looked at her and sigh "The bus broke down," I told her.
She eyes widen in shock "What? Tyler, we're stuck in the middle of the highway and there could be Walker's near here. Kayla is so going to flip out on you for breaking the bus with your crazy driving. Yeah, I know you well enough to know it was your reckless driving," she said with a sly smile on her lips. She knows me too well for her own good.
I had an idea and smirked "You sure you know me?" I asked her and she took a step back, but I grabbed her arms and pulled her into my lap looking her straight in those dark brown eyes of hers. I crushed my lips into hers feeling the tender of her lips and licked her lower lip asking for entrance. She granted and I slipped my tongue in her warm mouth and kissed her. I kissed her like I had never kissed her before and her respond back was by kissing me. I regrettably pulled back an had the same smirk on my lips "So are you sure you know me?" I asked her planting a soft kiss on her lips
"Yeah," she said breathlessly.
I leaned in her ear "You're mine and I'm not letting go this time, Ciara. We've been apart for to long," I told her and kissed her again this she didn't hold back. Ciara wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled me closer to her body, but we were interrupted by someone clearing their throat.
Ciara looked who had interrupted us and turned red "Caleb, what are you doing up?" she asked him her voice shook at the end.
I heard him sigh "Why did we stop?" he asked and I looked at him and gave him a big smiled. He looked at me in suspicion and in his eyes I saw something click "Don't tell me you broke the bus with your reckless driving? Kayla is going to kill you, when she wakes up. Oh, I can't wait to see what she'll do to you," he said and walked away to his seat.
"Seriously, how come everyone comes to that I broke the bus?" I asked.
Ciara chuckled "They've known you your whole life, Tyler," she told me and kissed me. She sigh "I have to check on her bite marks," she told me and I knew what she meant. We knew nothing of Kayla's bite marks, since they were being covered with the bandages. She walked where she was sitting and grabbed her backpack, where she took out fresh bandages, gauze, and alcohol. She made her way to Kayla and gently woke up the kids.
Jace blinked a couple of times "What? What happened? Where are we?" he asked sleepily.
I chuckled "Jace, chill buddy everything's fine," I told him and he nodded.
"Then why is Ciara waking us up?" this time it was Jasper that asked.
Ciara chuckled "I have to check the bite marks, Jasper. I can't let them get infected and get her sick," she told him and Jasper got off Kayla's lap, but sat in the seat in front with Jace watching Ciara work on Kayla.
Ciara went for the left shoulder and gently pilled of the bandage, but something was wrong with what she found because she gasped. She went for the arm and gently pilled off the bandage in that one and gasped again. "Tyler, come over here you have to see this," she said still looking at her arm and shoulder.
I walked to her "What?" I asked her curious to see what she found.
"The bite marks are not there," she whispered.
I was confused at how can't she not have the bite marks "That's impossible," I told her and tried to look the Kayla's arm.
Ciara showed me her arm "Look she had a bite in her arm and one in her shoulder and their not there anymore. It's like they healed on their own," she said examining the arm once more.
I thought about the bite marks she had in her neck and right ankle "Check the neck and ankle," I told her and she did as I told her. She gently pilled the bandage off her neck and there was still the bite mark, but it looked like it was disappearing like it was healing on its own and if you looked closely you could see it healing slowly. "What the hell is going on with her?" I said to myself.
"I don't know, but I don't think this is normal. I mean, she's immune to the infection and she came make fire with her hands without getting hurt," she said thinking things over. "She's got to be one of those super vamps or something," she said coming to a conclusion, but still went on treating her injuries. She put alcohol in the gauze and gently started cleaning her neck wound.
Kayla' hand flashed at a speed of light and I didn't see her hand until she was grabbing tightly on Ciara's arm stopping her from cleaning her wounds. We started wide eyed at her fast reflex. Kayla's eyes opened and they were they weren't the same violet I knew, they were yellow and from what I know about colors yellow means many things. And I'm guessing this yellow means mental alertness meaning she's in alert mode. "Kayla, it's me," Ciara told her trying to pull free from her grip. Kayla looked at her for a second and her eyes turned to their natural color.
She looked startled "Sorry," she said in a sleepy voice. "By the way that kind off hurt," she told Ciara a smile playing at her lips, but it never formed.
Ciara nodded "It's cool," she said and tilted Kay's head to the side to keep cleaning the neck wound. Kayla would flinch sometimes, but I guess she was getting used to the pain by now. Ciara attacked her right ankle, but Kayla didn't flinch this time. I looked at her like really looked at her. She looked skinner and her eyes were looking hallow from lack of sleep and from all the shit she's been through. I think it as been a week maybe three or four days. Sigh, being in a situation like this makes you forget to count the days you've been on the road.
Kayla looked at me "Tyler, why did we stop?" she asked me and she was eying me carefully.
Shit. I looked at her "Well, the bus broke down," I told her hoping she wouldn't notice it was of my reckless driving.
Her eyes narrowed and her eyes turned red "Liar," she told me.
Kayla's POV
I felt my eyes change color and I knew my eyes turned a red color, but I didn't know how I knew that it was kind of weird feeling my eyes change color. Tyler had just lied to me saying that the bus broke down, but in truth it was him that broke the bus with his reckless driving. I him very well to know that he likes to drive fast and recklessly. I'm surprised we're not crashing on a tree or something; yeah, his that reckless that he crashed four cars in only one fucking week, one of the cars being my Porsche.
Tyler threw his hands in the air "How can you people know it was me?" he whispered yelled.
I sigh "Because I'm your sister and they're our friends, since we were in pampers," I said and got up limping towards the bus door.
"Where are you going?" I heard Jasper say.
I looked at him and everyone who was now awake looking around them "To see if I can fix the bus," I told them and slid the door opened and limped outside. I didn't know much about busses and where their engines were so I just went where they usually are in a car; at the front of the bus, but as I looked at the bus and the air rising from it told me that it was useless fixing it. But I still gave it a try and as usual I was right. The bus wouldn't work at all. I sighed and felt my eyes change to a deep red color meaning I was being realistic, but it also meant many things more though 'realistic' being the main one. Because I knew we had to start waking to our destination unless we found some good transportation to get us all thirty something of us to Colorado.
"What do we do?" I heard Coach Martin ask, as he looked over to the engines and what not.
I sighed "Get everyone out here and pack our things, we have no choice but to walk from here," I told him and slammed the hood shut. Can this day get any worse? I thought to myself and as if answering my question I heard arguing starting. Great just what I fucking needed so early in the fucking morning, I yelled in my head. I heard the people waking out of the bus and crowding around me. My eyes changed color again in to the red of anger. The yelling was getting me pissed off they wanted to know why we had to walk and why not fix the bus, god this people can so frustrating to be around. "ENOUGH FOR FUCK SAKE," I yelled my body tingled with the heat and my voice had power in it making it echo around us. Thank god there wasn't any Walker's around this area or we would have been in deep shit right about now.
Everyone was quiet and I felt the people that always stood by me behind me, while the mob of the new people were in front of me shock written all over their face. One had to courage to step up and speak "Why the fuck are we walking?" he yelled. The guy was five-foot-ten, light brown eyes, brown skin, curly hair and broad.
I looked at him my eyes still red from anger "You tell me buddy? Can you fix a bus? Is there a place we can go to get it fix and not attract the Walker's? I don't think so, because we're in the middle of the highway and nothing is in sight," I told him my voice cold and hard making everyone flinch. I wasn't surprised to see Jackie with the mob, since she always hated me and my friends. Well, she should just get over herself and go screw herself, because I was done dealing with this shit and I already have enough on my fucking plate.
"She snapped," I heard Tyler said behind me, but I wasn't paying attention to him. I felt the heat going over my body and I saw the glow engulfing my body.
The guy still had courage "Well, shouldn't we look for a place?" he asked me his voice trembled making me laugh a hard and emotionless laugh.
I looked at him "Where do you suggest we go, huh? Do you think we can pull the fucking bus to whatever the fuck you want to go? We don't even know what's out there waiting for us, because for all we fucking now there could be traps waiting for us to just fall in," I told them all my voice sounding strange, but I didn't care I accepted it since it was part of me and it will always be part of me. The heat was replaced by coldness and I felt it running through my body and my hair was all around the place, but I saw it turn a faded blue color that made it look snow white unless it was the color snow white.
I heard gasps all around me "Kayla, your hands," I heard Ciara say and I looked at my hands. I was shocked. They looked frozen, but I could still move them like normal. I saw little shards of ice go out my hands.
"Impossible," I said and raised my hands pointing at a car that was at least ten feet away from me. I concentrated on the power that was running through my body and pushed it out forward. Ice shot from my hands towards the car that I was aiming at and froze it, but I was shocked first I can ignite myself in flames and now I can shot ice from my hands. What else am I to expect? Mind-reading, visions, controlling the air, controlling the element of earth and what not; seriously what am I to expect? "Shit," I whispered.
The glow in my body faded away taking the coldness with it and leaving me with the heat of my fire. I composed myself again and looked at the mob of people "So, are you going to stay here and become statues or start grabbing bags and start walking? Because I am not staying here waiting on you guys. We have a place to go and I am not wasting my day arguing with you guys, so you better decide," I looked at the group behind me and they weren't shock about the ice thing, because they had seen worse like me being in flames and being back after being infected. "Guys, grab your things and everything else we brought over the ride and bring them with us, because we're not staying in this place for more then five minutes so get started. I'll go with you guys and help pack, so let's get to it," I told them my eyes changed color to my normal violet eyes.
The group and I went inside the bus and gathered the stuff, while the mob talked among them. I packed some food, bottled water, the two blankets that Tyler had giving me and other things. I had one of my knives on my left boot and the other one was at my belt behind my back. My shotgun was strapped over my shoulder and my new pistol was placed on my belt where my knife was. Five minutes later and all of us were making our way out the bus and walked by the mob leaving them behind not wanting to look at them.
"Wait," Jackie's high pitched voice echoed around us.
I stopped and without looking being me and said "What?" I asked.
"We'll go with you," she said.
This time I looked behind me "I hope all of you decided on it and not just you speaking for everyone else, Jackie," I said my voice hard and emotionless like my face. They all nodded and started walking behind us. I resumed my walking in the front like my group always did and I was curious to know why they did that. "Hey, guys. I have a question for you," I said to them.
Mark, James, Ciara, Jace, Jasper, Tyler, Caleb, Coach Martin and the other two teachers looked at me. "Shot," they all said at the same time making all of us laugh the other group was confused, but they had heard us and were paying close attention to our conversation even Jackie.
I smiled "Why do you guys always have me in the front and always staid behind me, but close to me?" I asked them, when I had composed myself.
I heard Ciara and James snort "Why wouldn't we?" James said.
"You're our leader and the leader should always stay in front," Coach Martin said. I was shocked, because Coach Martin was an adult taking orders from a seventeen year old. How ironic is that?
"Coach how do you feel taking orders from a seventeen year old?" I asked him.
Coach shrugged "I'm learning many things of survival from you, Kayla. You keep us alive and we wouldn't be here if it weren't for you, besides everyone decided to make you our leader," he told me.
"Hey, you guys never talked to me about it," Jackie whined.
"Because you would say no and would try and be our leader, but we don't want a leader that's a slut and doesn't know what to do. Unlike you, Sky knows what she's doing and keeps things in order. I would have done the same thing, but those annoying people wouldn't listen to me," Tyler said and glared behind him at the people making them cringed, but then he looked at me and his eye were soft.
I was touched and a wide smiled spread on my lips "Thanks it means a lot," I told them and the smile stayed on my face for a long while. We walked and walked for what seemed for hours, but it was just an hour. We still hadn't seen any Walker's and that seem weird plus I couldn't hear any little crickets, birds or any other little animals. Something wasn't right I could feel it in my bones and it nagged my mind telling me to be careful, until I couldn't take it anymore and stopped on my tracks. I felt my eyes turn yellow and I knew I was back into being mentally alert and physically alert.
"Why did we stop?" Jackie asked from behind, but I shushed her trying to find the threat.
I had my gun ready to shot "Guys, from now on we walk carefully something isn't right. I fell it in my bones and I'm trying to see what it is," I told them walking carefully looking at my surroundings and every shadow in the woods. Mark, James, Ciara, Tyler, Coach, the two teachers, and Caleb were in full alert. I had Jasper and Jace next to me keeping my eyes on them incase there is danger and they have to make a run for it. We neared a sign that said that there were food courts and what not, so we made our way down that off-road and still no Walker's in sight. It was really bugging the hell out of me. We made our way through the road and we had malls, food courts and auto shops, but I could feel eyes on me and not the eyes of my group.
I stopped snapping my head to the right with my gun ready to shoot "I know you're there, so show your fucking self," I yelled my eyes were still yellow. The wind blew and the laughter rang with it. Men stepped out from the McDonald building guns pointed at us and they had very powerful guns, if you know what I mean.
"Well, what do we have here?" the man in the front of the group said to me looking me up and down like I was something to eat. If he thinks he's getting into my jeans, he'll have something bad coming to him, I thought in my mind narrowing my eyes at the man. My eyes turned once again a deep red color this time in this occasion meaning strong will-power, I knew this because I read things like auras and stuff like that. And I guess my eyes changed color according to what I was feeling and right now I was feeling strong and will-powered. He isn't getting in my pants and I'll make sure of that even if I had to put him extra crispy.
"We don't want any trouble and we're not looking for trouble, so if you'll excuse us we'll be on our way," I said and signaled my group to keep walking.
The men's gun were pointed at us again "No, you're not going any where. You all will come if us, but if you don't comply we will kill you right here and now," the men said. Shit. The man wasn't that tall just five-foot-eight from what I could see, dark brown eyes, white skinned, muscular, black hair and a dark shadow of a beard on his face.
I felt the kids arms wrap around my waist tightly and I knew I couldn't put them in danger plus the rest of the group. I knew I could hurt them, but I didn't want to kill another human I wouldn't be able to handle it. I put my gun down "Fine, but promise me you and your men will not hurt anyone or touch them," I told him.
He snorted "I don't make promises with anyone, babe," he told me and that really angered me. I didn't like people calling me 'babe' and I knew my eyes changed to the anger red color. Of course, being the idiot that he is, he didn't notice the change in color of my eyes. "Now, walk," he said pointing the gun to the small mall across the street from McDonald's. We walked silently not wanting to angry them for not silencing to them. Tyler caught my eyes a couple of time telling me that he was trying to think of plan to get us out, but if his plan something without thinking many of us could get killed in the process. I shook my head telling him not to think and to leave it to me, because I not going to let them hurt anyone and with my short temper that I was having I should be strong enough to take them all down. But I would be patient and wait for the great time, if we had time. We walked into the mini mall and what I had me astonish and my mouth gaping open.
