The Moon Have Always Been There

The shocking revelation of the truth destroyed Zaqiel on the inside. All this time, his brother was unaware that he was the one responsible for the death of his clan. It broke both of them completely. The following words emitted by Payne destroyed Zaqiel even more.

"There's not much time.. End my suffering brother.."

The moon became visible again in the night sky. Payne turned once again into a vicious werewolf. He attacked Zaqiel relentlessly while the latter was still in shock by everything that happened that day.

After receiving some quite heavy blows, Zaqiel snapped out of it.

"I'm gonna save you no matter what goddammit" he shouted.

He attempted doing the dial thing that his father did the first time they met Payne. He could not do it immediately. It took him three tries in which he received some major damage in order to get a perfect position to do the ritual. He dialed up the chest of Payne. It had no effect.

"What the hell?" Zaqiel thought.

Zaqiel was puzzled as to why it didn't work. He was thrown away afterwards by Payne like a rag doll. He attempted to do it again and again. The results were the same. It had no effect.

Zaqiel had another resort in mind. He picked the bracelet of his pocket and devised a strategy that would let him Payne wear it. He executed it and was successful. Once again, it was unsuccessful.

"You gotta be kidding me!" he shouted while crying.

With no more back-up plans, he was forced to counter all of the attacks launched at him. For the very first time, he was struggling to fight someone.

As Zaqiel was lying on the side of a wall after being thrown once again, he looked up the sky. The clouds covered moon. Despite this, Payne is still in his werewolf.

"Oi oi oi, is this some kind of a sick joke?" Zaqiel said in denial.

The overwhelming emotions felt by Payne broke him. Because of this, no seal nor ritual were able to hold his beast form. The absence of the moon doesn't work anymore either. It seems like the only choice left was the one suggested by Payne.

With a small ounce of strength left, he was attacked by Payne once again. Payne was in a position capable of killing Zaqiel. Zaqiel was struggling to avoid it.

As he was in a life or death situation, he saw his brother's face. Payne was crying. Payne regained a little bit of speech in which he was pleading to Zaqiel.

"Brother please.. kill me now. I don't want to hurt the people I love anymore... " Payne begged.

Zaqiel was in tears. He knew that it was the only right thing to do. Payne was right, he must end his misery. With a swift slash, he cuts Payne's throat. It was lethal blow for Payne and he let Zaqiel go.

Payne while holding his throat, walked backwards and tripped. He landed down in the opposite of Zaqiel. The both of them were laying down under the night sky.

Payne turned back to his human form. He was bleeding heavily caused by the slash made by Zaqiel. Any attempt of saving him will be useless for its already too late. Zaqiel knew about it. They were just laying down together as Payne approaches the final moments of his life.

"Hey Zaqiel, do you remember when Dad taught us how to fight" Payne said.

"Yeah, I remember breaking your nose in our first sparring" Zaqiel said.

"Mom was so worried back then cause my nose was bleeding heavily" Payne said.

"It's kinda your fault cause you were weak back then" Zaqiel said.

Both of them started to laugh. After that, their conversation shifted into a serious tone.

"The good old days.." Payne said.

"Yeah I agree" Zaqiel said.

They both went silent for a moment, reminiscing their lives back then. Payne then continued the conversation.

"Lookout Mom for me alright?" Payne said.

"Yeah I will" Zaqiel said.

"I really wished I could live longer.." Payne said in a melancholic tune.

They're both watching the big bright moon in the sky. Payne was extending his arms, trying to reach it.

"I never knew how beautiful the moon was. I'm glad to witness its beauty before I'm gone.." Payne's last words.

With those final words, Payne was finally put into rest. He died laying down beside his brother. Zaqiel was covering his eyes with his arms as he was crying heavily. He wiped his tears off afterwards and stood up.

He went back home carrying Payne's corpse. It was not Payne's body which he found heavy but rather, what just happened that night. He's gonna carry that weight as the moonlight shone brighter than ever.
