Chapter 3: The Ambush, part 3

"Ok, so, if I remember correctly, this way is a dead end. Ahh, yes, I am correct. *chuckles* I remember coming through here with Chell and telling her I was 100% confident that we were supposed to head that way. I looked at the blueprints for Aperture Science while I was in control and I found that there was supposed to be a pair of bathrooms here that ended up not being built. I wonder why. I wonder how the employees managed, let alone the girls that came here on the infamous "Bring Your Daughter to Work Day." Come to think of it, they did direct the water line so that it fed underneath the giant potato experiment. That may be how it got so large."

"The Oracle at Delphi would cleanse herself…"

"Seriously, miss, please stop saying tha… Oh, I get it, you want us to clean you with water for some reason. Well, it seems like there may be something wrong with you. Maybe giving you a mild shock will help to at least partially cure you like going to space did for me. All right, let's go find that potato."

They continued until they came to the "Bring Your Daughter to Work Day" science exhibit. Gordon used the gravity gun to pull the table out from under the potato, revealing a valve and ripping a series of plastic tubes from the potato – spewing small but steady streams of water onto the floor.

"This must be the water control valve. Now, just briefly soak the turret so she does not short-circuit. Also, you should probably turn off the water after you're done, it's been going on for long enough already." Gordon did what Wheatley asked. "All right. Miss, can you hear me? What is your name?"

"I was named ATHENA. It stands for Atypical Turret Having Enigmatic vortesseNce Attachments. The scientists colloquially referred to me as the Oracle Turret. I had pieces of Xen crystal fragments accidently fall into me while I was being constructed. This caused me to be able to tap into the vortessence and see into the past, the future, and the vortessential dimension. When the scientists at Aperture realized this, they fitted me with a speech regulation module that only allowed me to speak in the riddlelike way that Vortigaunts speak in when connecting to the vortessence. That way, they could get only the information that they wanted; albeit in a cryptic manner."
