Chapter Fifteen

There was something about this morning that had me on the edge of a breakdown. I couldn't shake the eerie feeling that stitched into my gut as I walked down the hallway to my first set of classes. The purgatory that the stillness brought left me feeling conflicted.

I always believed in the saying there's a calmness before the storm. I had a feeling this particular storm was going to be a category five hurricane out to obliterate anything in its path. Even the flavor of the atmosphere tasted foul, like despair and desolation stinging the tip of my tongue.

I found myself smoothing my thumb and index finger over the crystal necklace that Jesse had given me. It was almost like a coping mechanism. For some reason, the feel of the polished rock seemed to calm my problematic mindset. Or maybe it was the fact it was a piece of him.
