Chapter 1

The forest animals were running away from the main path. The pounding of paws were thundering in the forest. The little creatures continued to scurry at the risk of being crushed by the paws.

The black fur with a natural blue lowlight were seen from a mile away. Her ears pricked up, her tail bushy and wild, and her eyes opened and alert, this wolf ran like her life depended on it. Her slender form sliding around fallen tree's and dodging branches that hung low to slow her down. She turned to look behind her, only to trip on a root, and sliding into a nearby tree.

Another wolf came up behind her laughing, "Oh my goth, Amy when you thlid into that tree. I wath laughing tho hard, I couldn't breath."

Amy growled at the other wolf, as she stood up and cleaned the dirt off of her face. "Dude I'm getting a major headache" Amy said.

"Squeaker do you thing you can stop laughing long enough to help me get back to the compound."

Squeaker stopped laughing, her brown fur was muddy and filthy. She had one ear up and the other was flopped over, her tail was long with a white tip."Yeah Amy, bethideth I can uth a bath."

Squeaker and Amy began walking in the direction they came from.

Amy was smiling as she looked at the forest, her home. She smiled as she seen the birds flying with their young, and she seen the little squirrels fighting over a nut. The forest was in the peaceful setting of spring. Flowers blooming, and the water was clean and crystal clear.

Amy and Squeaker passed the lake. Squeaker stopped Amy, "Hey I want to wash my fur really quick." Amy shook her head as Squeaker jumped into the lake. She swam around and thrashed her body around wildly the water around her turned brown as she walked out and shook herself dry.

Amy stood at a distance to avoid getting wet.

Squeaker had bright green eyes that went really well with her brown fur, she had white on the tips of her ears, on her paws, and on her stomach.

Amy smiled, "So that's what that smell was."

Squeaker growled at Amy. Amy just chuckled as her and Squeaker continued on. Amy heard a rustling in the bushes, she froze and growled at the direction.

Squeaker stopped, "Come on girly, is probably a little fox or thomting" Amy looked at Squeaker then back to the bush, Amy cautiously began her striding walk again.

Squeaker and Amy entered the gates of the compound, they waved at the guards.

"Hey leth go check on Moon" Squeaker said. Amy shook her head, as they bounded through the compound.

The entered the cave quietly. Sal greeted them at the entrance and he made a sshh gesture, Amy and Squeaker just shook their heads.

Sal was Moons mate, he had a husky build, he was a hunter after all. He had auburn colored fur, and black eyes.

He motioned for the girls to follow him. He lead them further into the cave, where they met a beautiful white wolf, with piercing blue eyes. In the crook of her stomach lay 5 little pups, all sleeping.

"Hey Moon" Amy whispered.

The white wolf looked up at her two dearest friends, "Hey you too"

"How you feeling?" Squeaker asked.

"I'm good, thank you Squeaker. How's your training for your speech coming along?" Moon asked.

Squeaker pouted, "What do you think, I thill thound thupid."

Moon shook her head, "No you don't darling, look I promise it will get better." Moon gave Squeaker a reassuring smile. Squeaker smiled back.

Amy felt sorry for Squeaker. Squeaker had a hard time as a pup, Amy remembers the day she found her.

~

"Hey Amulet want me and my mother to walk you home?" a little white pup with blue eyes asked. "No thank you I want my father to come get me when he is done meeting with the Alpha"

Moon shook her head ok as she ran up to another wolf that was just as white as she was with bright blue eyes.

Amy sighed as all of the other wolves left with their parents.

She sighed as a yellow butterfly landed on her tail, "Want to play huh?" Amy asked. The butterfly flew up and away and Amy chased it. The butterfly flew to the compound gate. "I don't know, I'm not aloud to go out that far." The butterfly landed on her nose and then flew out of the gate. "If you say so."

She was chasing the butterfly. She stopped when she heard some someone whine. Amy followed it till she found the source, under a fallen tree. There was a little brown pup that was a little younger than Amy.

"Hello?"

The pup looked up at her with big green eyes. "My name is Amulet. Do you have a name?" She asked.

The pup was staring at Amy's eye as she spoke. "Oh yeah that is my birthmark, I've had since birth. So how about that name?"

The pup opened her mouth, but all that came out was a little Squeak. Amy smiled, "That was so cute!" The pup smiled back and gave another little squeak.

"Are you hungry?" Amy asked as the pup nodded and stood up, her tail was tucked between her legs and her ears folded.

"It's okay, I won't hurt you. You can come with me back to my pack." The pup gave a little nod as she followed Amy, staying close to her tail.

Amy entered the pack grounds with the pup and instantly she was met with growling from her father. "Amulet, what did I tell you about leaving our territory!?"

Amy sat back and put her paws up to surrender. "Ok daddy, you can yell at me later. Look who I found."

Yen's eye widened and he picked up Amy and pulled her to the side and whispered, "What did you do that for?"

"Well she doesn't have a scent either. I remember mommy telling me how you were able to get approval from the alpha for me to stay. Maybe you can do it for her too." Amy asked her little tail wagging.

Yen sighed and shook his head, "What am I going to do with you pup." Then he turned his attention to the pup. The guards had already surrounded her and were sniffing her. She laid flat on the ground as she shook in fear.

"Master Yen?"

"Don't worry, this little one's with me." He stated as he leaned down and picked her up by her scruff.

Amy went to follow but she was pushed back by her fathers paw. "Can you two see to it that my daughter makes it to our den. I can't have her wandering off again." The guards both nodded and the pup squeaked at Amy.

"Don't worry my dad knows what he is doing." She smiled reassuringly at the pup as the guards gently pushed her with their muzzle.

Later in the den Amy was rolling around on the ground when her father entered. She ran over to greet him, "Daddy! What happened?"

He picked her up by her scruff and circled getting comfortable before laying her on his paws. "Dad, what happened?" Amy asked as she mushed the side of her dad's yawning face. Yen smiled, "Your friend gets to stay." Amy smiled and yawned herself.

"I meant to ask you, what's her name? She didn't talk to the alpha at all." Yen asked as he nuzzled his daughter. Amy sighed as she started to doze off, "Not sure daddy, but she's a squeaker."

~

Amy and Squeaker were near the fresh kills the hunters just brought. They were eating with the rest of the pack when the young alpha walked by. He gently brushed Squeaker with his tail. She looked up and blushed a little as she swallowed what was in her mouth. "Hello Squeaker."

"H..h..h..hi."

Amy smiled and nudged her best friend a little. Squeaker gently bumped into his chest. "I've been hearing that your speech training is going well."

Squeaker was silent and all she could do was nod. He gave a slight chuckle. "Well I can't wait to hear you talk more."

She nodded again and the alpha gave a slight nod to Amy before walking off. Squeaker was frozen in place and Amy waved her paw in front of her face, "Earth to Squeaker."

"I think I need to go lie down. I juth can't" Squeaker shook her head.

Amy gave her a gentle pat on the back, "You know you don't have too be so worried. I'm pretty sure that you and him are..."

"Don't, I'm not ready." She put a paw on Amy's mouth. Amy nodded.

Amy walked Squeaker home and looking back she can understand why she was so nervous to possible be the future alpha's mate. Giving her a soft hug Squeaker then ran into her den to nuzzle her mom. Amy sighed a little and made her way home.

"Hey Dad?" Amy yelled as she ran into her den.

"No need to yell kiddo. I'm here." Yen stated as he walked over and nuzzled his daughter. "How was your run?"

"It was good, but I got this massive headache. Ran into a tree."

"Come here, let me check." Yen reached for her eye patch that was rested over her right eye. He gasped when he lifted it.

"What!?" Amy screamed.

Yen laughed, "Nothing kiddo. The moon is still as bright as ever on your eye. Does it feel any different?"

Amy growled at him as she shook her head, "It doesn't"

Yen nodded, "That's good." He looked at Amy with a somber expression.

"What's wrong?" She asked.

"I was going to wait till tomorrow but, Happy Early Birthday." Yen yelled as he pulled out a new eye patch he was hiding. Amy smiled, "Its so pretty dad."

"Well I found it in the wastes. I cleaned it up, fixed it up and brought it for you. How about we put it on?"

Amy nodded as she took off her old plain tattered eye patch. For the first time in a while she opened her right eye and immediately stumbled. "I'm used to having that eye patch on and having my eye closed for so long I forgot it still works."

Yen helped Amy put on her new patch, the design was in the shape of a heart made out of blue linen. "There you go." Amy's tail wagged, "Thanks dad."

Yen pet Amy's head, "Time for bed kiddo. Tomorrow is a very important day for you."

Amy paced in place before finally laying down to curl up. The way she was laying down she had a perfect view of three paw prints permanently fixated to the wall of the den. "I miss my mom."
