44. How did I get so lucky?

Mo Ting Xiao hesitantly laid down on the bed.

The moment he laid down, he felt Lu Chang Chang wrap her hands around him.

"….."

His body froze in shock and he forgot to breathe. His entire body was as stiff as a statue.

Lu Chang Chang was shivering from the cold. When she felt a source of warmth next to her, she subconsciously hugged the object.

The only catch was that she would have never even dreamt in her wildest dreams that the object she was hugging was her husband, Mo Ting Xiao.

She slowly snuggled her head on his chest. After shifting her body for a bit, she found a comfortable position and relaxed.

Mo Ting Xiao could start breathing only after she stopped moving. He slowly took a deep breath to try and calm his heart that was beating as if he was running a marathon.

They did sleep on the same mattress before…. Once… In a little more than a month they shared a bed once… Even if they would hug, it was always him taking the initiative… This was the first time she took the initiative…

He slowly wrapped his arm, that was under her, around her waist. He gently caressed her back to soothe the shivering.

His hand accidentally brushed her wound, and she shuddered in pain. Mo Ting Xiao immediately pulled his hand away and apologized.

"I am sorry. I am so sorry…", he whispered so that he wouldn't wake her up. He decided to not move much to avoid hurting her.

He felt like she was a porcelain doll that would break if he didn't take care of her properly.

He was just staring at her face. Even though her entire body was still shivering, apart from her face being a little paler that usual, she looked just as beautiful.

"How did I get so lucky??", he said softly while staring at her face in a daze.

While admiring her facial features, Mo Ting Xiao noticed the sweat dripping off her forehead. He used his hand to wipe the sweat off her forehead.

But just when he pulled his hand back, he felt as if there was something sticking to his hand. When he looked at his hand, he noticed a pale coloured substance sticking to his fingers.

He looked from his hand to her face. The substance's shade matched perfectly with her skin tone. While staring at her forehead, he felt as if he could see some marks in between her brows.

'Does she have scars on her face as well?'

To quench his curiosity, he decided to check it out. Using the back of his sleeve, he gently wiped the paste off her forehead.

When he looked at her forehead, his eyes widened in shock and his breath hitched.

"How is this possible??", he gasped looking at the spot between her eyebrows.

Right in between her eyebrows, a red outline of a five petal lotus was glowing. There was a small six pointed star right above the middle petal.

The glow that was getting emitted from the tattoo was very unique. It had a spiritual essence to it.

The five petal lotus with a six pointed star on top was the symbol of the sacred cult of the Tian Yi clique. It belonged to the family whose ancestors had defeated the Yang Yi clique decades ago.

Mo Ting Xiao had only seen the pictures of the symbol in the closed vault of the royal library. He had never seen one in his entire life until now.

"Chang Chang is a member of the Tian Yi clique!!", he muttered in disbelief. It took him a while to wake up from the shock.

Now he realized he had only known about the positive part of Lu Chang Chang's life and that until now, he had never known about the true dark things that happened in her past.

She was not someone who always smiled and was always cheerful, but one that always hid her pain under her smile.

He could understand that she didn't reveal about her scars because she didn't want anyone to pity her, but he couldn't figure out why she hid the tattoo. It wasn't something that needed to be hidden as only a select few individuals new about the sacred cult and its symbol.

'She wouldn't need to hide it unless…', he looked at her pale face with a thoughtful expression.

'Unless something happened in her past….'

He decided to confront her about the tattoo once she would wake up. He realized that the troubles in her past were not as simple as she made it sound.
