Darah was almost certain by now that nothing could work out like this. She didn't know if she could ever see her friends or her sister again and she most probably didn't trust Ryu who claimed to keep her safe.
"I do not have an answer to that. " These were the exact words Ryu had told her when she insisted to know when she could return home. At that moment Darah had felt tears pricking at her eyes…
"Here are your clothes for the night ma'am. I will be right back. " Old lady Zhi Ruo smiled as she placed a fresh set of night wear over her bed. Darah bowed slightly and watched as she left the room… Something struck her that very moment when she saw the old lady's phone in her hand.
Zhi Ruo rushed into the young master's home as she had forgotten to take Darah's medicine from there. But after a whole round of search, she found it in her room but on the bed. The tiny bottle which was a potion was usually kept over the table. Maybe she kept it over the bed accidentally, she thought. She grabbed it and rushed back to the guest house. On her way she saw young master over the balcony, calmly gazing at the sky with his hands in his pockets. He took notice of her and quickly called.
"Mrs. Ruo! Is she doing better? " Ryu asked from above, bending over the railing with his hands resting on them.
"Yes young master! Much better! " She smiled happily, her wrinkles on either side of her cheeks standing out.
"Alright then. Go ahead."
The lady hurried towards the guesthouse. She was strictly ordered to get her medicines on time and Master's temper when things didn't get done on time wasn't quite pleasant. A sharp eye was watching Master Ryu from a little distance in the hallway. She was quickly nudged on the elbow by Milly who was surprised seeing her frozen in time.
"What are you looking at?" Milly asked Dana who was in a daze.
"Oh it was nothing…"
Milly could clearly recognize the irritation in Dana's eyes. After all, her dearest Ryu Sheng wouldn't shut up about his guesthouse girlfriend. Dana had noticed his gaze towards that direction a million times today. It was the first time she had seen him so restless and worried even though he hated being seen like that. Was that girl so special to him? Dana grit her teeth, watching how Ryu was still gazing at the guesthouse.
When Miss Zhi Ruo came back with the medicine, she saw Darah pacing about in her room, still not in her fresh set of clothes that the old lady had brought her. Upon seeing the lady, Darah immediately stopped in her spot and kept her hands together.
"Miss Darah. Please change out of your clothes and drink your medicine. Young master had told me to watch over you carefully." She smiled as she poured the medicine into a glass half filled with water. It turned into a pale ombre shade as Darah watched. She then turned to look at the old lady in a desperate attempt to say something before she was about to leave.
"Miss Ruo! " She finally called.
"Yes? "
"Can you please clean up the bathroom. It looks quite messy and smells too… I tried but my hand hurt-"
"Oh no no my child. Leave it to me I will do it! " The old lady politely agreed. Strange… The bathroom and the other rooms were kept quite clean by the maids. Darah was startled at how kind she was… She had no other way and she had purposefully dirtied the bathroom with a few tissues here and there to earn some time. She bowed down gratefully and sat over the bed but carefully watched how Zhi Ruo placed her phone over the table as she went towards the bathroom. As soon as she closed the door, Darah left a deep breath and went for the phone. Thankfully the old lady hadn't set any passwords. She quickly went to the farthest corner of her room and dialled in the digits hoping May would pick up. Calling her sister would be a bad idea since she'd panic badly.
"H-Hello? " The phone picked up on the other line. Darah waited for a reply.
"Hi… And you are? " May muttered sleepily. Darah felt her head hurt.
"May. It's not the time for jokes. I-I wanted to tell you something-" Darah was shaking and her lips were trembling. Tears threatened to fall down any second.
"Darah? Is this you? Gosh I couldn't recognize your voice. What happened to your throat? "
"Let's talk about that later-"
Darah couldn't utter another word as the phone was snatched from her hands from behind and thrown over the floor into tiny bits… When she looked up in shock, she saw two menacing eyes glaring at her as if she had personally met death himself. Mrs Ruo rushed outside hearing the voice with a cleaning brush in her hands. Her jaw dropped seeing her phone ripped apart and Master Ryu staring down at Darah. Why was he here at this time!? Nevertheless she kept her mouth shut in fear.
"What the hell were you even thinking!?" He roared at her but all he received was an equally deadly glare. Darah looked like she was done for.
"Mrs Ruo! Leave right now! "
"Yes master! " She left with trembling legs. God knows what he'll do to that poor girl!
"And you… " He stepped forward, intimidating an already angry Darah, pushing her further and further backwards till her back hit the wall.
"Are you testing my patience? Do you want to deal with the consequences!? If you keep up with this attitude then I won't bother finishing you off right here! " His tall frame towered over her as his hand roughly gripped her wrist. It was hurting a lot but she kept a straight face.
"The only reason you're alive is Lyra. One wrong move and you're dead. Do you hear me, Darah!? "
"And you have the audacity to yell at me!? When you're the one keeping me here like a prisoner!? Tell me how many people you've killed off like this!? You cold blooded monster!" Darah screamed out her words even though her body was giving up on her. Ryu was numb for a moment. Why was she arguing like she knew him? She felt too weak to even stand near him… The grip on her wrist seemed to tighten so bad that she couldn't feel her hand anymore. She was glaring, dead into his cold, pitch black eyes which showed no remorse. But when she said that, Darah couldn't ignore how his gaze softened even though the anger was still there. As if she hit a nerve. He deserved it…
There was a moment of tension between them after she said that, only her panting to be heard. The next second, he dragged her by her wrist and pushed her to the side of the bed, her head hitting the edge lightly. Darah moaned painfully as she held to the bed end for dear life while Ryu stood above her, emotionless.
"You don't get to choose if I'm the monster. "
He muttered coldly and left the room with slow, steady steps. Darah grit her teeth in anger, looking at her wrist which was red with his finger marks. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she curled up and cried silently… The word monster wasn't enough for him.
