Her Zillionth Reincarnation

Jane had a heavy sense of deja vu as she caught a glimpse of the encroaching darkness before her heart stopped beating. In her last moments, a mocking smile forever left itself on her body. She hoped that her next reincarnation would be different, that is when her thoughts ceased.

Eventually, her thoughts returned, albeit in another form, carried in that of a soul, a flickering shape akin to a bright and lively ember. The glow of the ember, showing itself in a void, without any lifeforms- and any elements in which to interact with.

She reflected on her past life and her many lives before that. She tried time and time again of becoming peerless. She had tried to achieve other things, but it was only this goal alone that caused her so much trouble and what always caused her to lose her life.

But, even so, she couldn't help but yearn for that goal. Reincarnating hundreds of times, living hundreds- if not more, of different lives in the process.

She aimed to become peerless. She would live as long as she wanted were she peerless. She would be free as she could want to ever be, were she peerless. If she were peerless, she would have no limits to constrain her.

That may or may not have been the key reason that she wasn't able to live long in her previous reincarnations. Not that there weren't other reasons that might have lead to her early death.

In her most recent reincarnation, she was born as a rat.

It wasn't pleasing to say the least. And how she died in that life, oh, how it brought up anger within, like nothing else.

Each time she was reincarnated, she was reincarnated in a different location, there were times where she was brought before a god, others before Death, some right before she breathed her last breath she was transmigrated- only to die again, and others she didn't get to live long. She wondered how her next life would be. Would her next life be different than the ones before?

Whenever she was reincarnated in the void, she felt she lived the closest she ever was to achieving her dream, but she still died in the end.

She continued to wait, reflecting while she waited. She would soon be reincarnated. There was no need to grow impatient and act upon impulse.

She knew better than to be arrogant in the fact that she would be given yet another chance, but there is no removing that foreknowledge of her next chance at reincarnation.

It took only a moment in the the void for light to visit her. This light was in the shape of a body, without a single defining feature of human design.

This being which was composed of light whispered softly: "It appears that you have died, do you want a chance at another life?"

Like always, in a nearly instinctive manner, she responded to the being, and beings like them with a yes.

And as if the light being and the light it brought with it was never in the void in the first place, everything became dark again.

In another location, that was a bit less dark, though just as empty.

In a small warm space with soft walls. She quickly realized that she was in a womb. She had begun her next reincarnation.

That's fine, as she immediately realized that she was not reincarnated into type of creature who give birth to their young in eggs such as birds. She was able to remain calm as she had experienced many reincarnations. This one seemed to be going normally.

While she waited to leave the womb- to be born, she tried a few things that over the course of her reincarnations had acquired the habit of doing, whenever she could afford to.

She examined first her hands which were small, and seemingly soft. Human, or akin to it. Good. She then checked if she was in a world with magic, she called out terms such as info, help, system. When she called out Status, a sea blue screen appeared before her. The contents of the screen caused her to raise her eyebrows in shock.

Holy shit. That's different from what she was used to when she started over…

She had some familiar skills, some unfamiliar, and even some blessings. She had been blessed before, but far from this extent.

While she waited for the remainder of time to be born, she examined her skills and tried to practice magic. Thankfully in this world, magic was seemingly done through manipulating energy, and not done through runes, sigils, and other means.

With how much experience she had with magic it was easy to do it without letting anyone know. And who would ever guess that a baby, still in the womb was practicing magic.

Having seen her status and skills in detail, she felt that most geniuses would be incomparable.

For example she got all the pros of being a dragon with none of the cons. The same goes for elves. The perfect bloodline fusion skill she got is unbelievably useful in that regard.

Because of this, she was getting strong quickly. Even in the womb.

After a year in the womb, a light began to appear.

It was time for her to go and meet her parents. She was getting a bit tired of training her magic.
