Chapter 010 Why Me?

"The Old Mansion of the Wei family?" Su Li's eyes widened in shock, partly in disbelief and partly with nervous anxiety.

She had thought that Wei Chengfeng would arrange for her to be in a deserted place to learn etiquette and such, but she never expected it would be at the Wei family's old mansion.

The Old Mansion, home to Wei Chengfeng's grandparents and his parents—it was overwhelming for her to just show up there...

Just the thought made Su Li feel a tingling sensation on her scalp.

But now that she was on this path, she had to brace herself and continue; did she even have a chance to back out?

The Old Mansion of the Wei family was located at the foot of West Mountain, sprawling over a vast area. Not only was the main residence expansive, but there were also two annex buildings flanking the main structure. At the back, there was a glass greenhouse personally tended by the Old Madam of the Wei family, filled with precious and rare flowers from around the world. Further beyond, there was a large rose garden and a pond with running water, comparable to a professional outdoor swimming pool, a tennis court, and a small golf course.

Backed by West Mountain, the air was fresh, warm in winter and cool in summer.

As the car reached the entrance, the grand, ornate black iron gate slowly opened.

After passing through a wide shaded avenue of two or three hundred meters and circling around a finely designed fountain, they finally stopped in front of the main building.

The driver stepped out and opened the car door for her, "Miss Su, we've arrived."

"Thank you."

Su Li got out of the car.

At the entrance, an older man in a black suit looking like an English gentleman was waiting. Seeing her, he gave a slight smile, "Miss Su? I am the steward here, my name is Lin."

Su Li nodded slightly, showing utmost respect to the elderly steward, "Steward Lin, hello."

"The Old Madam and Madam have been waiting already, please follow me."

Su Li took a deep breath and followed behind Steward Lin into the mansion.

The main building was very spacious—the lobby upon entering alone had the grandeur of a hotel's main lobby. On the European-style sofas sat two women.

One was an elderly grandmother with silver hair, the other an elegant and noble middle-aged woman.

Su Li could already guess their identities; they must be Wei Chengfeng's grandmother and mother.

"Old Madam, Madam, this is Miss Su."

Old Madam Wei, nearly eighty years old, still looked spirited. She examined Su Li discreetly and then, satisfied, nodded and smiled, "You are the eldest daughter of the Su family?"

Su Li kept her hands clasped in front of her, her expression tense yet respectful towards her elder, "Yes, my name is Su Li. Hello, Grandma."

"Very well, this is Chengfeng's mother."

Su Li turned her gaze and politely addressed the other woman, "Hello, Aunt."

Liang Yunqing smiled and nodded slightly, "Please, have a seat."

Su Li sat down across from the two women, her legs tightly closed and her hands properly resting on her lap, slightly bowing her head.

Seeing her demure demeanor, Old Madam Wei was very pleased.

Liang Yunqing, seeing the Old Lady's thoughts, smiled and said, "Mother, look, this child is really good, she seems very well-behaved and sensible."

The Old Lady softly agreed with a phrase, then asked, "I heard you two met yesterday? How do you feel about Chengfeng?"

How do I feel?

Absolutely terrible...

But Su Li would never dare to say that, so she shyly replied, "He's quite nice."

"Hmm, he is a bit cold by nature, but once you marry into our family and become his wife, he will treat you well."

Su Li had thought that the union of the two families was merely Wei Chengfeng's own decision. But from what the Old Lady implied, it seemed that his whole family was aware of this?

"Um, Grandma, may I ask you a question?"

"What is it?"

"Why me?"
