It's been a bit since I've written here. Between learning nonverbal spellcraft, worrying about the Philosopher's Stone, and finals I really haven't had time to post in here. Since the last experiment was a failure- wait, wouldn't this be entry three then? Should I count the experiment as a Mana Notes entry? It is named one but I didn't put a number on it.
I recently deduced the reason why students' mana seemed so similar to each other. As someone's magic ability increases through practice, study, and age, their mana signature changes. I originally dismissed this idea due to Anne but through tests, I've determined that Leanne should be considered an outlier and not be a part of standard magic theory. I'll figure out why she has such a large amount of mana, one day.
Oh, and a little update. Dark magic is red. The only exception to this is the killing curse, which is black.
Professor Quirrell.
I've known about Quirrell's mana before entry two but wanted to dedicate that entry to the experiment and didn't want to talk about it until I had a solid theory on black mana. Quirrell's mana, like his personality, is an ugly puke yellow. Aside from Voldemort's mana, there isn't anything extraordinary about his mana.
Before I talk about Voldemort, I need to first explain what black mana is. Black mana is the magical embodiment of death. Death has a very deep connection with magic. This is shown in Threshals'. In fact, Death is so powerful that when someone is affected by death or has taken a life, their mana changes. This theory is from the portion of black mana in Potter and Voldemort.
Voldemort.
Voldemort's mana is almost as overpowering as Anne's. The reason for why is the same, but more. Yeah, its density and amount are overwhelming, but that's not all. For some reason, I always get an intrinsic feeling of some sort from mana. I don't know if it's repressed trauma or something else but his black mana just overflows my system with fear.
Future Catlyn here. Dr. Ballester suggested that I stop referring to Voldemort as He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named, in private at least, to take away some of the power he has over me. As an exercise in this, he wanted me to edit my old Journal notes to see if it helps. I don't really know how to feel about this change yet.
Professor Minerva McGonagall.
Professor McGonagall's grey mana isn't that unusual. The only part of her signature that stands out is the purple portion of her mana. You'd think something as large as an animagus spell would be as intrinsically linked to her as Voldemort's connection to Quirrell, but it isn't. Maybe if I messed with it I could reduce the transformation time. I wonder, would she be open to testing that?
Harry Potter.
His warm red mana gives the feeling of confidence and bravery. In the future, I think his mana will become a darker red as those traits grow. Dark magic is also red but it has a darker shade to it and a different feeling.
My mana.
I was right! I said that purple may not be the true color of my mana and I was right! Okay so I was wrong about why it would change but I'm taking the win! My mana changed from purple to a grey color. At first, I thought it was because I grew as a wizard. I later confirmed this by spending hours observing other students' mana. And then I disconfirmed this. Well, I was right about mana signature changing due to experience or age, mana growth, but this wasn't the reason why my mana changed.
Looking closely at my mana, I realized that my mana wasn't one color but a bunch of colors layered onto each other. My mana color is a mix of red, black and blue. Why does red, black, and blue make grey? I have no clue. The red comes from Sectumsempra, the blue is from the silencing rune on my chest, and black is from my attempt at using the killing curse and the death I've seen. The reason why my mana used to be purple is that my mana signature was combined with Dumbledore's mana.
