The sound of the blast rings in my ear as I circulate the energy instantly. Thinking about nothing other than the finish line, I take my first stride, leaving a footprint behind me. I noticed some of the dirt flying up into Garv's face, I will have to apologise to him after but for now I need to finish this course so I can move on with my training.
Mae let me practice on my own as per my request because I wanted to try something out to surprise her. I had been practicing running in the trees again as I knew that would be a quicker way to get used to changing directions and moving at faster paces.
I always had trouble getting past that one wooden wall, it was just too hard to move out of the way mid-air. I had been thinking of a solution to get around this before I went to get my sister and I came up with one. It was genius.
I ran the first part of the course on the ground as there weren't that many obstacles there anyway. As I got about halfway, I decided it was time to jump up into the trees. I jump from branch to branch at higher speeds than I had ever gone before. Only just realising my speed, I noticed I was getting somewhat close to how fast my sister went when I was younger. I awarded myself with a little grin of excitement.
I was getting close to the section of the course where the obstacle for the trees come up. I was ready this time. Ready to blow this course out of the water.
I focused my mind as I kept running slowing down a little for a second. I imagined the wind in a circulating pattern infused with my energy in the middle of the air. I was going to make a wind barrier to be able to jump on. It appears to the side of the obstacle that appears ahead of me. It was in the perfect spot, exactly where I had pictured it. I jumped straight to it from the branch and landed on it bending my legs ready to jump to another branch while making it past the wooden wall that stood so strong last time.
I was successful. I made it past the obstacle, and I'm able to use wind magic. I knew it would work. I made my way to the end of the course on the ground for the rest of the way to show I could dodge the obstacle with little to no effort at this point.
I finished the course in a mere 22 seconds. The jaw on the face of Garv dropped as he saw me pass the finish line before he had even made it. He was bewildered at how fast I had done the course with only a month of training. Too bad he didn't know I had used wind magic to aid me.
I looked around trying to get a glimpse at the expression my sister had on her face after my amazing performance, but I couldn't see her at the finish line.
I heard a voice from behind me.
"How did you do that?" My sister asked with a really shocked expression as though she had just seen a ghost. She had obviously decided to follow me after my extremely speedy start.
"Do what?" I answered full well knowing she was going on about the wind barrier I created.
"Not only did you use wind magic already that I haven't taught you, but you also used it without an incantation. It takes years of training to be able to do that." My sister threw back at me with a sterner look on her face than usual, i knew i would have to properly explain myself.
"He did what!" Garv screamed; his jaw dropping even lower to the ground. I'm pretty sure it might have broken his jaw.
"Well, I just imagined the wind flowing in a circle infused with the energy I'm able to manipulate." I answer innocently thinking i might have done something a bit wrong.
"Harry, you are one special kid, you know that?" My sister chuckles as she picks me up and spins around in excitement.
We went to the house to have a more private talk about what I had done and why it shocked Garv and my sister so much. They explained to me how it took both of them 2 years it finally be able to use magic without incantations even that being a strain for them at the beginning only being able to summon it in their hand for a while. I took them another couple of months to get past there.
I had realised why they both looked shocked. I had done something that took them years to accomplish. That also including even being able to use magic. It took me less than two months to be able to use wind magic without an incantation whereas it took the from the day they awakened until they had left the Manipulators School to be able to barely use their respective magic without the incantation.
I took my sisters words with more meaning now; I truly was special. It was exactly what I wanted, I was only five and I was already pretty much better than lots of the people are when they leave the Manipulators School. At this rate I could become the strongest adventurer with ease. I tried to convince myself this anyway because I knew that the ranks of Garv and Mae when they left were only C+ so I still had a long way to go yet.
Even with this massive head start in being awakened I would always have to try my hardest in training and never slack of ever. Even though I knew I had long ways to go however I knew the amount of potential I had exceeded every other person before me.
That night, as I lay down in my bed, I had a thought. If my mother was able to use the dark magic would there be a chance that I inherit it. This thought really stuck to me that night and I knew I would have to find answers but since the accident my sister never once got me a book to do with black magic. It was a rare occasion that I would get one that had anything to do with dragons for that matter.
I would have to keep training as I am now to figure out if I could use the black magic my mother had used those 4 years ago. It was something I would eventually have to get a book about to see whether you can inherit black magic or if you just have to be chosen at birth.
I close my eyes and try to not think about it for now, and I drifted off into a deep sleep once again.
