Any Old Ideas

"Have you got any idea how dangerous that stuff is?" the bookkeeper asked. Her eyes had that feverish enraged glaze in them and she kept squeezing her beautiful hands into fists.

"Have you got any idea what will happen if someone finds out what you were doing down there?" Myorka continued.

"Someone surely will if you keep on screaming," Blackbones said.

That was a bad mistake.

The bookkeeper raised her hand, as if to slap the boatswain, but Serenica still had her reflexes and the healer managed to grab the offending arm before anything drastic could be done.

Serenica wrestled with her friend for a while, but the healer girl was stronger than she herself remembered being, and Myorka could be subdued with a few dynamic movements.

The bookkeeper began to cry uncontrollably.

"It's not you, it's the pregnancy speaking," Serenica said. "We made a mistake. I am sorry. You're not a bad person. You're a good girl."
