Whatever forces they could mobilize, they mobilized. Whoever could be armed, was armed, and the pirates did what they could to encourage and empower the ones they had to leave behind. They would have to sail along the coast in order to get the lumberjacks of the westernmost parts of Sennas on board with the good cause. Serenica was not looking forward to this. She had spent more than enough time in the western islands, and what she had seen there had confirmed her already low expectations.

"I wish we could do this some other way," she complained to her captain. "I don't want to go west."

"No one does, yet someone has to," Spade said wearily. "I have to pretend to be a willing participant in this mess. At least you can sigh and moan about it."
