Nothing to Lose

Into Serenica's view stepped Kinley, smirking as she observed the dumbfounded healer stumbling back up.

"I have more flowers, you know," Kinley said, throwing her luscious hair back.

"And I have more strength," Serenica replied, even though she felt more tired and sluggish than ever before in her entire life.

She pushed herself onto her feet despite the explosion of pain in her head.

"It will kill me if I kill you!" Kinley cried out, suddenly clutching her own head. This suggested that she was not, in fact, immune to her own spell.

"But kill you I must," she said, wiping her cheeks.

Serenica realized that her enemy was crying.

It certainly did not help things that Kinley was apologetic, and in her own way, strangely likable in her volatility.
