WW2 Era Vampires

AUSTRALIA, October 13, 1939

"Fuck it. We can't die by their weapons anyway. I'll fight for this country. It's been my home this last century, and I will not abandon it," Charli snapped.

Jordan signed the paper. "I thought the last war was meant to end all wars."

"So did I."

Charli smiled sadly behind his hair. He could feel the eyes of the older soldiers on him and Jordan. They thought they were all watching the young "I'm going to be a hero" boys, and they were all sadly waiting for the ball to drop.

They didn't know the horrors they'd seen in this millennia. They had been through the same hell they had, and so much more...

LONDON, December 29, 1940

Madison collected her rations and hurried home, careful of the fires and pits from the bombings. She did not need these rations. She drank blood after all, and these days, there was plenty of spilled blood.

No, she got these rations for the kids that lived at the orphanage. It was not much- an ounce of cheese, four thin strips of bacon and one egg a week- but it helped keep their tiny tummies a bit fuller.

They needed the food, for the government kept trying to go without feeding them.

Madison hissed at the soldier, shoving the blood bag into the basket on the bench. "That bloods not only bad, its the wrong kind! I need B-positive, not A-negative if I'm going to save this mans life. Move!"

He scrambled to comply. Madison was lucky to have the strength she did from being a vampire. She had no idea how the mundane kept up. They barely ate any for themselves, certainly not enough to keep up with all this work.

With a sigh, she looked around and easily found her next patient. She briskly walked towards the screaming man...

The Western Front

The shots rang out across the field, but all Tomas saw was Mike. Mike... bleeding... falling...

He scrambled over to his only mortal friend. The only one who knew who and what he was. "Mike. Mike, please. let me save you."

Mike choked on his own blood, shaking his head. "N-no."

Tomas shook. He knew his friend hated the idea of immortality, of watching the world move on without them. But... "Please... Please, let me do this."

The light went out in Mikes eyes. He was gone.

Tomas shook, laying his friend down slowly on the hard ground. He stood, turning to those shooting. His fangs snapped out as he snarled. They were all dead. Every last one of them...

"How the HELL were you the only survivor in your platoon?" the sergeant asked Tomas.

He shifted awkwardly on his feet. He couldn't tell them he was a vampire. They wouldn't believe him anyway, and they'd probably lock him in an asylum. He shook his head. "I don't know sir."

The sergeant's frown deepened. "Then perhaps you can explain how the enemy was torn to shreds?"

Tomas shook his head. "I don't know sir."

Remembrance day, 2015

70 years on... Neither of them could believe it had been that long since the last world war. It seemed only yesterday they had watched those atrocities unfold.

Catarina took her girlfriends hand, looking at the memorial sadly. "So many lives lost."

Lucy nodded her agreement sadly, her hand holding her umbrella to shield her from the sun shaking. "Why? Why do the humans do this to themselves? They are all the same, even with their differences. Why can they not get along?"

Catarina pulled her close. "I don't know, Lu. But I'm glad it lead me to you."

Lucy smiled slightly, leaning her head on Catarina's shoulder. "You look just like your grandmother," a voice said to the left of them.

They turned to see an old man in a wheelchair and his caretaker. He was missing a leg. "My grandmother," Lucy asked, a little confused.

The man nodded with a smile. "Yes. Her name was lucy. She saved my life, you know. Amputated my leg, kept me alive when I wanted to give in. She was my angel."

Both girls smiled. "Yes," Catarina breathed. "She is."

Lucy blushed.
