Jake Miller

"You know Liam has a point there, right? I never thought you would actually let Hobi go." Jake leaned against a wall, crossing his arms as he eyed the woman up and down, watching her every movement.

Myra lifted her brows and stopped whatever she was doing and stared at him. "Are you questioning me, Miller?" Scanning him up and down. He had manly, peppered stubble, huh. She never notices those before. He was overall attractive in her eyes.

Jake went on to say, "Most of the time, you will murder them without hesitation. You're cold and merciless when someone betrays our gang. That's what makes you the infamous Myra Winter. Even your brothers consider you terrifying at times."

Myra rolled her eyes at him, "Wow. Flattering. I already told Liam. I didn't want to get my hands dirty today."

Jake replied, "Are you certain it's not because of what I said to you?"

"No!" Change the subject, Myra! She was not here to hear another lecture. Thankfully, Jake was a bit more understanding than her own annoying brother.

"Let's head home. You're making dinner today." Aha, she successfully changed and avoided the topic. Jake groaned when the woman before him reminded him of his duty today. The pair were practically housemates. They live in a home with two other people, Liam and Elena. Jake and Myra always took turns with household chores. Liam was not in the picture since he basically slept in his office.

"Ah ah ah. Don't give me that look. I have a gun with me right now and I won't hesitate to use it on you." Myra smirked as she stepped closer to him.

"Oh, yeah?" Jake approached her. So now they were both walking toward each other, closing the gap between them.

"You're being awfully quiet today, Jake." Myra came to a halt in front of him. Their faces were just a few inches apart. If one of them took a step forward, they would have kissed.

"You look hot when you acted cold. I just wanna witness that moment a bit longer." Jake shrugged.

Myra eyed him up and down, "Kinky."

Something wasn't quite right here. Knowing Jake, he had a couple of tricks up his sleeve and was sneaky as fuck.

Wrapping her arms around his neck, she pulled him in closer. She could smell his cologne from the close distance between them. She inhaled sharply. It has such a pleasant aroma that she could nearly drown in it. Myra chose it for him as a gift, and he has been using it ever since.

"Hm, hot?" She batted her eyelashes. Giving him the puppy eye look.

He smirked, quickly picking up what she was doing. "Yes, my queen."

As he spoke in his usual deep tone, shivers ran down her spine. What kind of game were they playing here, by the way? It was always like this with Jake. They were usually sneaky and cunning while they were together, especially on a mission.

Myra trailed her fingertips down his back, all the way to his buttocks.

Only to touch something firm and familiar tucked in his back pocket.

SHE FUCKING KNEW IT!

As she backed away from him, she quickly pulled her gun. He, on the other hand, had beaten her to it. Something brushed up against her stomach. Shit.

A gun.

Jake was the first to pull out his gun and point it at her stomach.

Myra cursed under her breath, "Shit." This guy was fast. She didn't even notice he had another gun in his front pocket!

Well, that was Jake Miller for you.

"You're gonna need to work on that. 3 seconds late. As usual." Jake put down his gun

You might think three seconds was nothing, but it was for Myra Winter. In just three seconds, anything can happen. After all, time is gold.

"Fucking hell. Again? I can't even beat my own personal best!" Myra let out a sigh before stepping back as she put her gun down. "And here I thought maybe a little distraction might slow you down."

He stepped away from the slightly shorter woman, smiling a little. "I never let my guard down around you. I could never let my guard down."

"Jesus. For 8 fucking years?"

Jake hummed, "Yes. When I'm sleeping, I can still hear all the sounds you made when you broke into my room. Take last night, for example."

Oops. Busted. Abort the mission! Abort the mission!

"Ugh. If you never let your guard down around me, then how am I supposed to 'murder' you and win this whatever game we're playing now?"

He tousled her hair, making it messier, "You'll need additional training if you want to one day outperform me. Liam is right. And don't think I'm unaware of the fact that you ate a lot of junk food the day before."

"Shush, what's wrong with junk food?" Myra slapped his hand away.

Jake shrugged, "It's slowing you down. Both physically and emotionally. You're already slow, but now that you've eaten that junk, you're much slower. You don't wanna be like Gaden, right?"

"Hey!" She smacked his hard chest. Ouch, that actually hurt her hand!

He chuckled before patting her head, "Now, let's get you home."

"Sunshine? Where are you?" As soon as Myra stepped into the large living room, she called her out.

After a brief silence, she heard little footsteps coming in her direction.

"Mommy, mommy, mommy!!"

Myra crouched down and extended her arms out to offer the little girl a warm hug. She rushed into her arms, her head buried in Myra's neck.

"Hello, darling. I've been thinking about you." Myra stroked her long hair.

Elena glanced up and kissed Myra's cheek, "I've missed you too, mommy."

Someone coughed behind them after a few seconds of silence.

Ugh, of course. He tried to ruin this wonderful moment for her and her kid.

"Uncle Jake!" Elena pulled away from Myra when she saw Jake standing right behind Myra.

Myra swears this child cared more about Jake than her. One of the many reasons why she needed to find a way to kill... well, defeat him one of these days. Myra needed to prove to everyone that she was capable of protecting Elena on her own.

"Hey, muffin." Jake knelt down and kissed the girl's head.

"So, how was school today?" Myra asked her the everyday question.

"Great! Our class got a new teacher today!" Elena replied, her eyes sparkling. "And he is really handsome. Like a prince! You know, the Prince Charming in Cinderella. My friends said that he... umm.. sparkles? " Elena tilted her head, confused for a moment before she started giggling.

"Yeah, I think that's what they said about him." She then nodded.

Hm?

"Really? Even more handsome and more attractive than Uncle Jake?" Myra wiggled her brows at Jake as she said this. Elena was fully aware of Jake's charms.

Elena was deafeningly quiet, obviously thinking. Her brow furrowed as well.

"No thinking, Muffin. You know the answer." Jake sighed as he ruffled her hair.

"I'm sorry, Uncle Jake. But the new teacher is a bit more handsome than you. Even my teachers... they brush when they saw him. Their faces were all red when he walked past them this morning." Elena laughed, amused by Jake's response.

"Blushed?" Jake quirked an eyebrow, correcting her small mistake.

"Oh yeah! Blushed!" Elena grinned.

"Ohh, burn! You found yourself a new competitor." Myra teased Jake as he tsked. Not expecting Elena's answers. A taste of his own medicine. His ego could definitely use a bit of flattening.

"Elena, go to your room and do your homework first, okay baby? Mommy and Jake have something important to talk about." Myra gave her daughter a soft smile.

"Okay, mommy." She then leaned down and kissed the girl's forehead before she ran upstairs.

"Jake," Myra looked at Jake right in the eyes after she made sure the girl wasn't in sight.

"Myra," Jake did the same thing.

They knew something was suspicious.

"Run some background check on her new 'teacher'. I'm gonna need all the information."

Jake nodded.

"Suspicious how it's almost the end of the second semester and yet a new teacher suddenly showed up. I believe the headmaster himself said that there was no need for a new teacher there. I need to know she's in good care. I won't hesitate to kill the teacher if you find something suspicious with his background."

"Right away. You need to be extra careful though, Myra. Rumors have it that The Barzini got a new boss. He's been trained for this, according to what I've heard. He's tough, and also dangerous. Unlike any of the previous bosses, you've encountered before. He could be anyone right now. In disguise. Be careful. Keep your eyes open. Make sure you bring your gun and daggers everywhere you go." Crossing his arms, Jake warned the woman.

"Don't worry. I always bring my babies with me." Myra was referring to her gun and daggers. This was starting to become interesting. Her heart was literally beating fast.

"Well, I can't wait to meet him. Let's see if those rumors are true." She smiled to herself.

"You wouldn't want to play with fire, Myra. Liam is gonna be so mad at you."

"Ugh. It's always Liam. I know I'm a pain in the ass." Myra bit her lower lips, hard.

"He's the boss. He knows what he's doing." There he went again with Liam, Liam, and Liam.

"I'm also in charge! Well, not as much as him but still..." She went on, "It's always Liam. He's been watching my every move. I'm sick of hearing his name."

"Myra," Jake growled. Clearly not pleased with what she'd just said.

"Ugh. Sorry." Myra huffed in annoyance.

Jake sighed, "He cares about you. You're his baby sister. That's means everyone is targeting you too. I care about you too, Myra. A lot."

Myra raised her head and looked him in the eyes. He admitted his emotions for her, which surprised her. He never expressed his emotions very openly.

"If only Will is here with us..." Hah, Myra missed William. So much. But who was she kidding? William wouldn't come back to join them. He already made it clear.

"He chose to leave us. He won't be coming back anytime soon." Jake closed his eyes as he pinched the bridge of his nose. He was close with William too.

"I know. It's been so long."

"Now, let's get you and Elena something to eat." Jake walked past her, into the kitchen.

Myra nodded before she called out to Elena, "Elena?"

"Yes, mommy?" Elena ran down the stairs again.

"Come. Uncle Jake is gonna cook for us tonight." Myra grinned while looking at Jake.

"Yay!" Elena jumped up and down. She knew how much Elena loved Jake's food.

"Jesus, still not gonna let me go, huh?" Jake turned around to look at her before he shook his head.

"Nope. You're still making dinner tonight. It's your turn." Myra smiled sheepishly.

Jake ran his fingers through his hair.

He sighed, "Well, I better get started then."
