Chapter 13

"Kaiden?" I almost yell in confusion.

"Evelyn you are safe. Don't worry I won't hurt you." He says steadily.

Kaiden walks over to me. His usual emotionless face is showing pity as he looks at my face.

"I don't understand. Where am I? What am I doing here? Why are you here?" I say questioning his presence. Kaiden walks over to me with..breakfast? And an ice pack.

"I brought you here. After the incident...you don't remember?" He asks but I don't understand why I would remember coming here. I was knocked out.

"Where is the man?" I ask suddenly worried he may come back for me.

"I took care of him, you won't have to worry about him coming for you again." is all Kaiden would say.

Wondering what he means by taken care of I look at the beautiful assortment of food he brought me, but I just didn't have an appetite for anything with all the events swirling through my mind.

"Thank you." Is all I could say. I am so confused in thought. Why wouldn't we get the police involved? What am I going to do, and who did that man think I was?

"Do you know..why the man was at my house?" I ask Kaiden

"Yes." He says flatly.

"Please tell me why? I deserve to know. Is it the same man that you were talking to beside the alley?"

Kaiden looks at me with surprise that I asked him about the man he spoke to.

"No, but he was searching for you too." He says reluctantly.

Oh my god. How did I not know I was being stalked. I stand up not knowing what to do. I'm searching for my phone when Kaiden grabs my arm.

"If your looking for your phone, it's not here." He gestures for me to sit back down still holding my arm as if I'm about to run away.

"I want to call my mom" I want to scream.

"You can't contact her anymore. I have her in a safe place, but there's something you should know." He sits next to me now. I'm surprised about how calm he is for something like this to occur.

"You can't contact her anymore." He says calmly.

Before I could interject with questions he continues "I know this doesn't make sense right now, but we had to inform her you were in an accident and you didn't make it."

"What are you talking about?" If I thought I was losing my mind before I definitely know I am now. Kaiden holds me in place and moves my chin up to look at him. I look into his blue eyes through tears.

"I know this is going to be hard, but you can't contact anyone you used to know. Or else you'd be putting them in danger. I have the situation handled you just need to trust me." He states firmly.

"Please tell me this isn't real" I look at him with pleading eyes. I know that he won't but I attempt any way.

"You should get some rest. You were tossing and turning throughout the night. You would heal quicker if you hadn't been taking the..medication you were on." Kaiden says.

"How did you know about that?" I ask in surprise.

"I've known about you for a couple weeks. I had the prescription altered to see if you were.." he stops for a moment "That's probably why you started having blackouts again, but that was the point." He sighs as if he didn't want to.

My mind is swirling. "How did you.." I start to say before he cuts me off.

"Like I said, you should get some rest and we will talk about this in the morning."

I look toward the window and realize it was night. I'm assuming I have been out for a few days. Instead of arguing I give in. All of this has made me deeply tired. I lay down on the bed and wrap myself in the silk bedding and close my eyes. I start to drift off to sleep almost instantly.
