I rushed through the corridor, the sound of my shoes echoing and bouncing off the walls. Removing my wig and the pins keeping it in place, I toss it to the family butler as he walks behind me with the same urgency in his stride. I stop just in front of a set of big wooden doors that shut my father's study to the rest of the house. With a loud knock and a faint "come in", I throw the doors open and march in. My father was sitting quietly behind his desk. I caught a look in his eyes filled with shock and surprise for a split second before he expertly masked it with his usual blank stare.

Now that we live in a time that almost everyone accepts whoever you choose to be, it is easier for people to find their voice and confidence in being candid. 


I don’t understand the point of beating around the bush. Whether bad news or good, it’s just better to spit it out rather than drag it on. It will not only hurt the other person, but you also dig a deeper hole for yourself. 


After my very vocal outburst in front of the royal family, the tension in the room was too thick. I don’t think a knife could even cut through it. All I wanted to do was understand more about my new job. Instead, I had to endure a complete mess of an evening and still the subject of my assignment has not yet arisen. It seems like I have to force the discussion myself.
