The weekend had only just begun, and Laila still hadn’t been allowed out of the flat and it was obvious why not, Ging obviously didn’t trust her thinking she’d ruin the act knowing what it entailed and how it worked. She was beginning to realise how he thought too.

Ging and Hail had gone down to the club to set up the stage behind the club leaving Laila in the flat alone. It had took them almost all afternoon to set up.

‘Are you sure Laila’s going to be okay on her own?’ Hail asked. Ging.

‘Sure she is she’s got the T.V.’

‘How long are we on for?’

‘An hour maybe as long as you do the act at the end of the performance then everything will be cool then we can go home.’

‘Sure she won’t try the windows?’

‘They’re locked. Stop worrying Laila has got plenty to read up on.’

Okay.’

True to his word Laila indeed had tried all the windows in the flat. ‘Shit!’ giving in realising that Ging had locked every single one.

She found the fan out giving in knowing that Ging had locked all of the windows and the door too knowing that their was no escape she plugged the fan in and put it up to it’s full cool ness and sat on the floor with two, two litter bottles of cooled lemonade before opening the script.

‘Where do you want the gear Hail?’ Stripes asked the lad guitarist of crucifix.

‘Stripes, guys, the stage is round back we set up on there.’

‘Cheers give us a hand will you Hail.’

‘Sure stripes.’

Hail and the band set up and done a sound check.

Hail went into the club’s shower room, had a shower and got changed spreading black make up across his face.

The crowed gathered at the rear of the club

Ging set up the DVD.

The drums banged, the guitars kicked in the crowd screamed.

Hail leaped onto stage. ‘Evening flocks, I hope you all enjoy yourselves and now let the show begin for my first number an oldie every one should know this one pretender.’

The crowd roared.

‘Never knowing which way to turn who to look at first Killing times my favourite time

I’m just a pretender in this world we live in all our false hopes All our lies I’m a pretender. The gift of lying is far but true. Pretending is my game

Loving aint an issue. Pretender. Don’t look behind you. Pretender

Give it up for stripes on lead, Gremus on base, Greep on drums.’

The crowed screamed whistling.

‘I’m just a pretender No where to run No where to hiding along with me.’

Hail held out the microphone into the crowd

They chorused. ‘We’re all pretenders on our own world, in a world of pretending.

In a game everyone plays. I’m a pretender, no one can deny that.

Pretending is a game I play.’

Hail pulled the microphone back in. ‘Great now for a new one Child of the night.’

The band kicked in, hail held the microphone in between his black painted nailed hands inches away from his mouth. ‘Have you ever known a love so hard you got to keep on pushing to get it? Have you ever been so in love it hurts? Child of the night come to me show me the way. Child of the night take the devil away from me this love is hell itself.

Torture and pain, Hell on wheels

I need to break away from this hell from what I feel, I beg you. Child of the night heal me.’

The guitars intro’d.

‘Whooh oh yeah (screamed). Hate myself Hate every one hating me, hating you. Child of the night me make sure no one else can have me under your spell. Child of the night

Reach for the skies above

Whooh yeah Love me, Hate me.’ Hail took a breath. ‘Well folks time for a break bet you all want a drink? I know I do.’

They all laughed.

‘Back in fifteen.’

Hail jumped off the stage, Ging paused the recording the band exited the stage. ‘Got everything?’

‘Yeah.’

Ging looked at Hail. ‘What was all that about child of the night? It’s about Laila isn’t it?’

Hail shrugged his shoulders. ‘Could be.’

‘You ready for the crucifix?’

‘Yeah.’

‘Are you focused on what you’ve got to do?’

‘Yeah.’

‘Good, let’s get a drink. Then get set up.’

‘Sure.’

Ging and Hail went to the bar getting a drink they walked back over to the stage and set up for the finally.

‘That girl’s here make sure you pick her.’

‘Okay.’

‘I’ll stand over there to record it okay.’

‘Okay..Ging.’

‘Yeah.’

‘It is going to work isn’t it?’

‘Course it will it always does.’

‘What if it goes wrong?’

‘It won’t, just do it how you usually do it.’

‘Okay.’

Ging walked away and set up the DVD- Corder.

The band leapt back onto stage plugging in their guitars.

‘You sure about this Hail?’ Stripes asked.

‘Yeah.’

‘What if it goes balls up?’

‘It won’t. Nothing ever does.’

The band intro’d. The crowd gathered.

‘We all know what time it is?’

‘Crucifix time’

‘So who’s going to be the luck lay tonight?’

They all stood silent

‘Come on there’s got to be at least a hundred girls in the audience tonight scream for me.

They all screamed.

‘I can’t hear you a little louder.’

They all screamed.

The room shuck.

‘That’s better I’ll take you.’

He pointed to a red haired girl on the dance floor surrounded by males.

‘Yes you.’

Catty looked at her friends. Her friends egged her on. She turned making her way through the crowd to the stage. She walked slowly across the dance floor to the stage where he took her hand leading her up onto the stage.

‘So what’s your name?’

‘Catty.’

‘Well Catty don’t worry this is my first time too.’

She stared at him panicking as he led her to the crucifix and tied her to it.

‘Only kidding I’ve done it a thousand times before.’

He pushed the steps away and turned to the crowed.

‘When I say what shall I do with her you shout kill her lets try it. What shall I do?’

‘Kill her!’

‘I can’t hear you a little louder what shall I do?’

‘Kill her!’

‘That’s better.’

The band slammed the guitars heavy and fast.

‘She’s on the crucifix what shall I do?’

‘Kill her!’

‘She’s hung for doing wrong what shall I do?’

‘Kill her!’

He held the microphone out to the crowd.

‘I can’t hear you!’

‘Kill her!’

He pulled a knife out of his pocket showing it to the audience

They stood shocked

‘Child of the crucifix could do no wrong but she lost her way what shall I do

‘Kill her!’

‘The gods have spoken we must kill the child of the crucifix of the devil’

He turned to the red haired girl, slashing her. ‘A cross I leave on the child of the crucifix now she is dead the devil is no longer.’

The curtains dropped the lights dimmed.

‘Goodnight and god bless, see you soon.’

The crowds descended as Catty’s friends panicked they shouted for all it was worth, but got pushed through the crows that were leaving.

Ging turned the DVD recorder of and leaped onto the stage to help Hail to take the girl of the crucifix as the band started to pack away. The band leaped into the van and pulled off the car park.

‘Is she going to be okay?’

‘I don’t know which knife did you use?’

‘The one you gave me.’

Hail pulled out a blood stained knife out of his pocket.

Ging and Hail both looked at it.

‘Shit Ging you gave me a real knife!’

‘You always use a real knife.’

‘I thought we put all that shit behind us?’

‘We told Laila we’d sort it.’

‘And the movie? I suppose that’s a real knife too’

‘Yeah.’

‘No way this weren’t part of the deal.’

‘Sorry bro that’s the way it’s going to be, just one difference the blade will be blunt. Now help me get rid of it.’

‘Where are we going to put it?’

‘Same place as the others.’

Hail and Ging picked up the body carrying it to the car. Ging opened the boot and they rolled the body into it slamming it shut. They jumped into the car and pulled away.
