Base Defense Preparations

"Morning little bean!"

Oh, father is back?! Is it that time of the day already?

Bean has been hard at work trying to sleep.

"Morning father!"

He is not laughing for once?

Did bean miss anything?

"The scouts reported some concerning things. There may be dangerous monsters in the surroundings. We'll have to be extremely careful. What do you think about it?"

Oh no! Trick question again.

Think bean think.

Hide we should totally hide! Wait no, we can't.

For bean hiding is easy.

Bean is small and green after all.

Elves won't be able to hide that easily.

Maybe bean should show them how it's done?

Wait, no. No time for that.

If hiding is not possible…

We can run!

Ah but bean is not sure where to run.

If we cannot hide or run…. we need to fight!

AWAWAWAWA

Bean doesn't like fighting.

"Are the monsters really bad? Not possible to talk to them?"

"Doesn't seem to be the case. From the information I got I believe the various monsters to be ones that are extremely territorial and that will not cooperate with us under any circumstance."

Ah, this is bad. No choice but to fight.

Think bean. What is the best way to win a fight?

Bean has mostly seen insects so far.

And elves.

And the elves never fought.

Oh, wait….

Bean has an idea!

Bean is a genius.

Just need to do like spiders.

Time to build a web!

"Bean has an idea! You guys should prepare traps! Then lure the bad monsters in it!"

Father seems to be thinking hard for a few seconds.

Then he nods and leaves.

What bean helpful?

Bean thinks so.

Hopefully, the nice elves will be safe.

Bean will focus on the link with everyone.

As long bean can feel them, they are alright.

Bean will hope for the best.

****(POV)

My daughter is growing up for sure. She still doesn't show any sign of her memories coming back, but at the very least she has a good head.

Instead of sending our people to their death hunting an unknown enemy, she decided to have us lay an ambush. Of course, that could backfire on us should the enemy be way stronger than we expected. However, I believe it to be the right course of action. After all, we need to make this area ours.

It is the only way we can develop. Right now everything is still fine. We just came here. We are still at our strongest, but what happens when our supplies start to run out? What happens when our weapons need maintenance?

Right now is the best time to act. Of course, we are missing too much information about our surroundings still, but nothing we can do about it.

We could hide like rats and evade any enemy coming our way. Problem is it isn't a good long-term solution. Not as a group at the very least.

If there was only me and my daughter, I would perhaps proceed this way. Not in the current situation for sure.

Alright time to set things into motion.

"Teralith, Travan, time for you guys to work !"

"Yes, leader!"

"Oh? Disclaimer I don't have my tools and ingredients, the things I can actually accomplish are severely limited. On that note, I really need some…"

First Teralith. The calm peaceful elf. She is a hard worker and is the life of the party. Oftentimes busying herself on her stone sculptures. She is a master of earth magic.

If we had more of her, building a base would be done in a jiffy. Then again, we should count our blessings that we have many talented people with us already.

"Alright, Teralith I want you to dig deep pitfalls. Add rock spikes at the bottom too, lots of them. I want whatever that falls in it to have more holes than a piece of swiss cheese. Also, make sure every last one of us knows where these are. I don't want any accident to happen."

"Yes, leader! On it leader!"

Alright, that is one thing settled. Now for Travan. At first glance, no one would guess that he is one of ours. After all, he stands out between the other warriors.

More accurately he is no soldier. At all. He is a scholar. One that spent his life researching the mysteries of dark magic. Trying to rediscover the knowledge that was lost along with history.

If anything he is extremely proficient at what he does. The only issue is sometimes he gets so engrossed in his research it becomes hard to even see his shadow.

He used to spend most of his free time in his lab. He is one of the few finding the new environment especially harsh with the lack of supply for his experiments.

At first, I thought he would be devastated, but turned out it wasn't all that bad. His curiosity brought him to want to research the current forest. Only problem is he is restless at the moment.

He wants to explore, but we need to secure a safe area first. In any case, he is the man I need right now for sure.

"Travan, I want you to turn Teralith's basic traps into something way more dangerous. I want these traps to be a death sentence to anyone falling into it. Use whatever you want but try not to spend all our resources at once. We are aiming for long-term fights after all. We will have to defend our base for a long time and won't be able to resupply anytime soon. Can you do it?"

"Of course, but the potency will definitely less than satisfactory for …"

"Can you do it?"

"That…. yes."

"Perfect! I'm counting on you!"

With these two working together I can be at ease. Whatever comes to us will get skewered, well assuming it isn't strong enough to bulldoze through everything.

Now the question is how to make the fight progress in our favor.

I do have an idea, but I will ask the bean first. I believe the more I interact with it the more it could potentially remember memories of being my daughter.

I know what the others are thinking. That it might just be a huge coincidence. That it is nothing but a normal creature.

I am no fool. I do know that. Either way, I will never give up. If my daughter is truly in there I will get her back. No matter the cost.

So what if I waste my life? The life I wanted and dreamed of has been gone since the two most important ladies in my life died.

Well, my daughter might still be alive. No, she definitely is.

I will believe in that and keep fighting.
