Chapter Twenty: The Masterminds

Leaning against the fence, two men were talking. On the other side of the fence, horse ran freely in the fields.

'-Those heros are a bunch of idiots,' one said to the other.

Puffing out smoke from his cigar, the other man flicked his cigar onto the ground and stepped on it, 'Still, we shouldn't under estimate them,' he had a strong Russian accent.

'Look, I understand they got powers, but so what of it? Doesn't make them invincible,' the man looked around himself.

'Even if you're right, which you are, don't forget what we did.'

'Yeah yeah.'

'Y'all having a swell time,' a girl approached them from the farmhouse.

'Indeed,' the Russian man stood straight, 'Are we intruding of your property, we'll move if you wish.'

'Nah,' she tilted her hat up, letting her half-mask show, 'I'll just take you in.'

The other man pulled out a gun to fire.

Coming from behind him, I grabbed the mans gun arm and snapped it.

Looking at it, the mans face was filled with horror as his jaw hung open. After silencez he screamed and hollered on the pain he felt as he stared at his broken bone sticking out.

The Russian man had made a run for it.

Looking at him, I nodded to Anne.

In the blink of an eye, he layed against the wooden fence unconsciously.

'Talk,' I approached the man with his bone sticking out.

'I'd rather die basta-'

Anne converted her power into a staff and pinned it against his chest, 'Finish that statement?'

'Ok, ok, our bosses headquarter is always moving! I can't tell you where he is!'

Anne pressed harder.

'Guess you can just die,' I went to turn, but he once more caught my attention.

'WAIT! He was just in New York, but as of tomorrow he'll be in Las Vegas!'

Anne moved her staff away.

'Phew,' he looked relieved.

Then Anne used all her force and hit the side of his head, knocking him unconscious.

'Vegas, would've preferred somewhere calmer.'

'I can agree, but atleast we now have a better lead,' as always, Anne tried to be optimistic as she approached our car parked on the other side of the street.

Two days later, Anne and I were walking along with a crowd of people towards the inners of the plane.

'I'm so excited,' she seemed chipper.

'But we've flown before.'

'But not a plane! From movies, I've seen how people get snacks, watches movies, and sleep!'

'But you can do the same in apartments and your own houses as well.'

'But this, but that,' Anne clasped my checks with only one hand, 'Zen, let me enjoy this.'

'Yeah,' my words came out jumbled.

Walking into the plane, we bought cheaper tickets, so both her and I sat in 3rd class seats. Anne took the seat by the window and I to her side.

Looking at how excited she was, face against the window, high pitch tone, in her classic white dress, her blonde hair trailing down her back, it was a side of life rare for me to see nowadays.

With the plane already had taken off, we were airborne, and she still looked out the window.

Coming up to our row, a flight attendant had a cart. 'Anything you two want?'

'She'd like a snack and a simple bottle of water for the both of us as well.'

'Will do,' the woman wore a silly face as she opened the cart and leaned inwards.

Taking my attention towards Anne, I tapped her shoulder, 'What kind of snack you want?'

Facing me, she tapped her chin, 'Maybe, um...

.er....Just peanuts.'

Turning back to the lady, a cold barrel of a gun was placed against my head, 'What the-'

Quickly pulling the gun to be aimed elsewhere, she shot a killed a bystander, 'Try anything heros and another person dies!'

People screamed and started to panic.

Looking at the curtain from the 2nd passenger area, a gun barrel slowly peaked through. Emerging, the co-pilot was ready to shoot the flight attendant till she turned and shot him dead.

'No one. Better play,' she looked at Anne and I, 'Fucking hero,' the skin of her face peeled off and hit the ground. Looking up, her face was bloodied.

Kids were crying. Parents tried to calm them down. The pilot must've called for assistance on what to do, but Anne and I had to think of something fast.

'Fuck heros,' Anne said as she leaned back into her seat.

'What,' The flight attendant said.

'I agree with you, no one should play hero. Heros cause issues based off their morals. Morals are what guide them to believe they're doing good, yet in reality,' Anne slowly pivoted her head to align her eyes with the armed menace, 'They're a bunch of fools.'

With the distraction Anne caused, I had used that time to discreetly transfer all my power into my legs. Swiftly, I had kicked the gun out the woman's hand into mine, kicked her on her butt, and aimed the gun back at her, 'Which is why we don't play hero; we are heros.'

'So you see, my masters told me you were closing in on them. They knew I was gonna fail too,' blood began to pour out of her clothes, 'So we'll just blow the WHOLE FUCKING PLANE,' she then manipulated her blood to grabbed my feet and slowly cover me.

Anne ran past me and to the cockpit.

'WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING,' sending a trail of blood she sharpened, it was shooting fast towards Anne's back.

With a pull of a trigger, I shot the woman in the head, causing her to loose focus of that stand of blood.

'Nah,' I felt the blood tighten around me, crushing my ribs, 'Ah,' I said painfully.

Busting into the cockpit, Anne looked at the horrified man, ducktapped and strapped with explosives that could destroy a whole skyscraper.

Remembering the co-pilot came out earlier, Anne enhanced her arm strength, raised her right arm and stopped the blunt object, breaking on impact against her.

Looking at the man, he bore a crazed expression.

With metal gloves now enclosing her hands, she went for a low hit and gutted the man, knocking him instantly. Looking at the bombs, they were due to blow in three minutes.

Anne had no knowledge about how to disable a bomb. Not wanting to waste time, tears began to come out her eyes, 'You might have to die alone,' Anne began cutting off the ductape with a pair of scissors that lied beside her. She tried to loosen the bombs so she could only throw them off, but ten seconds remained. Knowing what needed to be done, Anne picked up the crying man, ran out the cockpit, onto the 1st passage seating, opened the airlock, and threw the pilot out. With two seconds remaining, the explosion could be heard as the plane had shook to the amount of explosions. Closing the door, Anne looked at the people who stared back at her. Anne, who was in her costume for some time, her eyeshadow came down her face as she cried infront of the many who saw her kill a innocent man.

Back to me, I had dealt with the woman. She was encased by shackles made by my powers.

'You won't kill my masters,' blood lady grinned, scaring the calmed kids, 'Jack and Lily ate our formidable leaders! JUST TRY AND BEAT THEM!'

My face froze, 'Who?'

Before she answered, the woman pierced her vital organs with her own blood, emptied her blood onto the ground, and died.
