__________

Define adventure for yourself. People tend to think of an adventure as something hazardous or dangerous; if that gives you pause, perhaps think of it as "something enjoyable, unique, and a departure from your routine."

What qualifies as an adventure depends upon you -- your perspectives, desires, experiences, and so on. One man's adventure may be another's routine. Don't worry about how others may define it; if it feels like an adventure to you, it is one.

Even if it is up to you to determine your own adventures, examining the adventurous lives of others can help clarify your own goals, desires, and limits.

Read famous real-life adventure books and stories. Examine them not only for the activities described but the transformative experiences of the author/adventurer.

Talk to friends and family. You may gain not only ideas and inspiration but a better appreciation for someone you think you already know so well. Who knows, your dull great uncle Stu may have had some fascinating adventures back in the day.

You'll find that what others define as an adventure varies as well. Is it base jumping? Visiting a foreign country with a pocket dictionary, no itinerary, and no return flight scheduled? Going to an open mic night and trying your hand at stand-up? Camping out at a national park? Quitting your job? There's no shame in "borrowing" one of their adventure ideas if it strikes a chord with you.

What do you dream about? What activities do you do when you fantasize about being able to do whatever you want? Do some adventure brainstorming, and put no limits of practicality or feasibility on your ideas at this point.

Ignore the "be realistic" voice inside your head. That's part of what keeps you from having adventures.

Draw up a "to-try" list. Rank them from most achievable to most challenging if you desire. Mark them off as you attempt them.

Don't fear your fear. Courage is the mastery of fear, not the elimination of it.Fear is part of what makes an adventure an adventure.

Master your fear not only of undertaking an adventure, but of failing at it. You know the saying about the journey being more important than the destination? Well, taking on the challenge of learning to surf is more important, and personally rewarding, than whether or not you can stay on your board and ride in a big wave.

Don't wait for the perfect time to take an adventure, because the perfect time will never come. That's just an excuse people make for not going.

Do a little less planning than you're comfortable doing. Pack your suitcase as normal, then force yourself to repack using a suitcase half the size. Go on a drive with no destination in mind and no GPS. Go skydiving without updating your will.

Erase your expectations. Don't assume you know what will happen when you take a trapeze class or go abroad as a disaster relief volunteer. You're going to be surprised regardless of how much you think you know about what to expect. Embrace this uncertainty.

No one said an adventure has to be a solitary affair. Backpack across South America or go whitewater rafting with a friend.

Join an adventure club. You'll get ideas and support for your adventures, as well as some beneficial peer pressure to get out and do things.

When you're out adventuring, do find ways to keep in touch with loved ones.Just because past adventurers had to "go dark" for long stretches doesn't mean you must. Let them experience a little of the excitement of your adventure, and in turn give you support to keep at it.

Muster your adventurous feelings. Being adventurous entails feeling mentally free, open and willing to experience life. Opening your heart by being kind to yourself will help you build personal strengths.

If you need to feel safe before you are comfortable doing something new, use meditation and yoga to calm you and relieve stress. Once you establish a sense of safety and calm you will be more open to adventure. For example, you will go on vacation by yourself to Portugal despite not knowing any Portuguese.

Give yourself a push toward feeling free. It can be helpful to say self-affirmations like, "Everything is going to be okay; I'm ready to get started; This change is going to be good for me!" Being vocal helps as well. Simply yelling at that moment works to expend the energy to move you forward.

Take safety precautions. Being adventurous does not mean that you do things that are unsafe. Physically demanding adventures must include a deliberate evaluation of the dangers involved. For example, if you want to learn to race a boat, you must research the safety requirements.

Consider moving to a new town, city, or country. Sometimes a change in scenery is just what you need. With proper planning, you can make anything happen as long as you stay the course and make smart choices.

Let go of what is holding you back. Inhibitions are feelings that make you self-conscious and unable to act in a relaxed and natural way. Perhaps you are shy, inexperienced, or fearful. In order to let go of what is holding you back you must feel safe with yourself, your surroundings, and the people around you.

Ask yourself why you want to be adventurous. What do you think it will provide to you? Do you want to be open to all possibilities? If so, you are correct.

If you're not sure exactly what you want, try imagining you're on a desert island and nobody else's opinion can affect you. What would you want then?

Conquering physical challenges requires you to overcome mental challenges as well. For example, if you train for and climb a mountain it will challenge your physical abilities and show you how physically and mentally strong you are.

Do you think you have something to prove? Are you starved for attention? Why are you seeking a thrill? Do you think it will build your self-esteem? Do you just want to have more fun?

Take a few minutes to answer these questions as it will help you craft a plan for action.

Keep in mind that you should only change yourself for you. Don't let other people's expectations and standards affect how you live your life.

Celebrate your adventure. No matter how successful your attempt at bull-riding, be proud of your achievement and enthusiastic in recounting your adventure to others.

Remember, the adventure itself is more important than the result.

Line up your next adventure. Don't rest on your laurels. Strike while the iron is hot. Prepare to hit another item on your "to try" list while still basking in the glow of the last one.

The best way to make the most out of having an adventure is to have another adventure.

Our day to day lives are chock full of monotony. We go to school or to work every morning, slog for the better part of the day to earn our livelihood or in preparation for the same, and then we come back to our respective homes. Once we are home, we are consumed by either household chores or family obligations, or by more work that needs to be done to fulfill our expectations from life. An adventure forms a great way of escape from this monotony helping us forget about our daily troubles for a while and concentrate on something that we would not ordinarily do.

To begin with, being on an adventurous holiday gives a great boost to your self-learning and realization process. Ever noticed how many coming of age movies involve the main characters going off to explore unknown and uncharted territories? There is a reason for that. When you go out alone and unsupervised in an unknown world, you are left to fend for yourself, and in the process, you learn about how much you can cope with, how you really behave in truly stressful situations, and how much practical you are. On the other hand, when you are left alone and away from your usual surroundings, moral boundaries begin to relax, and this is when you find the inner saint or monster surfacing. An adventurous holiday is really what makes yourself known to you.

An adventurous holiday is a great way of facing your fears. Most of us are, to some extent, afraid of doing new things and getting out of our comfort zone. As we all know, we would never really grow as long as we only stay within our comfort zones, and an adventure trip is the best way of achieving this kind of personal growth. If you are afraid of socializing, going to an unfamiliar place on your own will force you to mix with different people just to get through each day. if you are afraid of heights, bungee jumping and parasailing are good ways of dispelling that fear. If you are afraid of stepping into the water, go snorkeling or river rafting. No matter what your fear is, there is something out there in your itinerary that will force you to face them head on.

Going on an adventure holiday lets you become something different for a little while. When you are in a different country, free from familiar social boundaries, you can shed your old skin for some time and become someone else. You can adopt a different lifestyle while you are adapting to the life in an unfamiliar place. But, because we can never really become someone completely different, this is a chance to really explore yourself and set new goals for yourself. For many people, and adventure holiday is a way to learn new things and reshape their life's philosophy. You might find out that you want something different from your life that will be more satisfying than anything you have been doing so far.

There is nothing like an adventure trip when you want to broaden your horizons. When you go on a trip to distant lands, you meet different kinds of people, and you can experience and immerse yourself in a culture that is completely different from your own. Going solo is the best way to experience this as not having anyone of your own kind with you will take you out to socialize with the locals even more. Such a journey changes our perspective by making us acknowledge the diversity of the world and the smallness of our own lives pitted against it.

An adventurous holiday is one of the best ways of making you self sufficient and boosting your confidence. Going on a solo trip in foreign countries forces you to deal with your troubles all alone, with no one else to fall back on. This is the only time of your life when you are truly accountable for everything you do, and you have only yourself to blame or to praise. This makes you more efficient in handling day to day activities, makes you a better planner, and makes you more confident about being able to handle whatever life throws at you. When you return from the trip, you will be a far more responsible and mature person than the one who left the airport.

Once I go to a forest for adventure purposes, they love adventure with some of my friends like me. I see some unfamiliar animals in the forest. They were circling around the tree under which I had pitched my tent. The animals were so beautiful to look at that I had never seen them before. My companions noticed that I took some pictures of them.
