Jin stared at the two from on top of the bleachers. He was happy now that Grey had finally found someone who would stick it out with him and someone who genuinely liked him. He looked up at the windows above his head and saw the rain slowing down but the sky kept growing darker as lightning bounced between the clouds. He turned his attention back to the couple and stared, but couldn't bring himself to smile, his jaw started quivering signalling it was time to go. He got up and slowly walked down the bleachers, making his way through the crowd very easily.
He walked through the empty halls, finding himself in the commons where he grabbed his bag that was lying where he had left it. Somehow it felt heavier than before. He slumped it over his shoulder and started heading back to where Isabel was.
When he got there she wasn't there and neither was the piece of paper, but there were small droplets on the ground where he had left her. He nodded slowly, understanding that she had at least physically moved on. He continued walking and opened the large, heavy door.
CREEEEEAAAAAAK!!!!! It cried as Jin pushed it open, again it felt heavier than usual. Once outside he noticed that there were small puddles here and there and an especially large one where he usually stood. He slowly walked over to a spot that was relatively dry and dropped his bag before walking into the large puddle. He crossed his arms over the railing and stared at where the sun was supposed to be but couldn't keep his head raised and allowed it to fall into his arms.
As it dropped he felt something warm behind him. The warmth spread until it wrapped around his chest in two distinct lines. He felt something soft pressed against his back followed by a hard object touching the area just below his neck.
Ana squeezed him as she kept her head pressed against his back. "You worked hard… you did well." She said to him softly.
"Yeah..." Jin whispered.
"Jin, I like you." Ana said clearly.
"Thank you… but… I still like Chandler..." Jin said after a few seconds.
"I know… I saw you looking at them together with that sad look on your face. I saw your lips quivering when you left the gym." Ana continued speaking in a soft tone.
She squeezed him a little. "I've always been watching you, you know. I've always been worrying… ever since you asked out Chandler on Monday." Ana continued.
"You knew something wasn't right when you talked to her in the commons… that's why you didn't ask her out then and there… then every day after that you would always look at her with pained eyes even though you pretended to be mad." Ana said as she hugged him tighter.
Jin snorted a little. "What are you talking about, of course I was mad at her." He said.
"She worked me to my bone and I didn't even get paid for it..." Jin continued.
"You can fool yourself but not me, I know how it feels to be hurt by someone you like." She whispered.
Jin remembered back to middle school, how she had been bullied after she had asked out a potential soccer star. She had been turned down but bullied for the next few months since, not only by the soccer players but also the other girls.
"But, doing what Jin Lane always does, you helped her… even if you were hurting the entire time." Ana's voice broke a little.
"I know because I've always wanted to be by your side, so I always saw what you were doing, and when I couldn't figure it out I asked Mohammad and Nate." She said.
"So those guys ratted me out… I should have known better." He chuckled a little.
"That's why it's ok if you don't like me back now, it's fine… I just wanted you to be aware of it." She said softly.
Jin remembered the conversation he had with his parents that past Saturday.
***
"Mom… Dad… You guys always ask me about school and my friends and grades but never about… like… you know a romantic interest..." Jin said awkwardly, finishing the last couple words.
"Worried are we?" His father said with a gentle smile.
"There's a very good reason for that son..." His mother touched Jin's father's hand as they played a bit before interlocking.
"You see Jin..." He remembered his father starting.
"No one is born into this world to be alone… everyone is born to be loved by someone and to love someone and those two are always the same person." His father said, "Most people get too lost looking for this love but the thing is… love isn't something you find… it's something that finds you."
"Wait for me." Jin said softly.
"I will… no matter how long it takes..." She replied.
The hug felt warmer for some reason, and the sky got blurrier, his teeth started to chatter as the warmth spread from his chest to his cheeks. But this warmth was different, it felt sadder and more pained.
"You don't have to put up the act anymore Jin… It's ok to show how you really feel every now and then." Ana said as Jin's body began to shake.
He put his hand on his face, covering his eyes as tears streamed down his face. His body shook as he took small hiccups of air.
"Ck...Ck...Ck" He cried silently.
"Isn't it easier… now that you have someone to share this pain with...." Ana whispered as tears began streaming down her face as well.
The dark grey clouds began moving faster revealing for the first time that week the gentle, warm sun. Rays of light broke the cloud cover shining down with the largest one shining down on the pair that stood on the roof.
"JIN!!!!" Nate shouted as he burst through the door.
He froze at the sight in front of him. "AH!! GO BACK! GO BACK!!" He shouted as he realized what was happening.
Jin quickly wiped his tears and called them back. He stared at his pals as Ana clung to his arms, holding on as if she were afraid of losing him.
George pulled his hair. "NOW JIN HAS A GIRLFRIEND!!!" George shouted as if his life was over.
"The weirdest person in our group has a girlfriend now… what has this world come to..." Mohammad cowered in a corner.
"OI!" Jin shouted.
"Don't worry Ana, if he ever treats you poorly you let me know, I'll give him a good knocking!" Nate smiled.
Jin made a fist with his free hand. "I'm about to give you a good knocking!" He shouted.
The group laughed, it was the first time they had all laughed together like that this week. Suddenly everything felt lighter around Jin, he looked up at the sun then down at Ana who was looking back up at him and smiled.
(There's no point being depressed about it now) He thought to himself as he clasped Ana's hand a little tighter.
(Life goes on, what can you do?) He smiled to himself as he looked at the glowing sun emerging from behind the clouds.
