(11) A Battle For Rescue

~Alex~

It was morning.

I had asked Wigget to give me the top 5 soldiers of our secret elite segment to go save Cathrine in the heart of the demon base, where we calculated they had taken the hostages. I lead the soldiers at early dawn. I knew my mother would suspect that I would go against her final decision. And that she would think I would sneak out at night. Normally I wouldn't even think about going against her wishes, but when it comes to Cathrine... Nothing will stop me, not even the Queen. I chose to go in the early morning, as during the night is where it's most suspected to go in and out of a heavily guarded fortress.

Once we get past the castle walls we switched our modes of stealth and blended in with the citizens as we began our venture to the southern wall.

...

The Martial of the squad stopped me as we approached the outskirts of the border.

"Your highness, if I may," she begins to speak, I look to her and nod continuing my walk but falling behind. "I do not doubt your combat abilities, in fact, Captain Wigmentl and former Royal captain of the guard Hakami have both assured me that you are more than capable to defend and protect yourself, but I cannot help but have concerns about what will happen to the kingdom if by any chance you get struck down Princess Alex," She said lowering her head and subconsciously gripping her sword hilt.

"Alex is just fine," I begin, "if it comes down to it, I will be more than willing to lay my life down for you, this squadron, and for my kingdom, but I will be able to protect you, and my people, and my future wife," I say determined and strong. Although the truth was that I was afraid. what if I am unable to save Cathrine? I don't know how I could ever live without her, she's the air that I breathe, my life, my love, the very reason I'm alive, if anything happened to her, I'd lose control. Nothing would matter anymore

"Your highness, we've arrived at the edge of their base," a solider announced. I look around to see the base beneath us.

"I have the high ground now," I yell half laughing trying to be serious, Cathrine smiles and looks up mocking fear

"You underestimate my power!" She responds lunging forward

Someone grunted as if they were waiting on me. I frowned, it wasn't like me to lose my focus on a mission. I exchange a glance at Martial Remari.

"At your command, Squadron Leader Remari," I respond, taking out my staff.  She nods and signals the sniper, who takes out a scope and searches the area of the base.

"We're looking for a heavily guarded tent that probably is isolated from the rest," she began, the sniper cleared his throat and pointed to a tent that was larger and surrounded by guards.

Cathrine I'm coming.

...

We approached the back of the tent, waiting for the signal from some of the soldiers that were going to great a distraction in the front, I locked eyes with Remari, I felt a twinge of gratitude and of guilt too, it wasn't necessary for them to come. And if this goes wrong, all these people's lives will be lost. She put a hand on my shoulder bringing out of my thoughts and smiling gently.  As she began cutting through the cloth of the tent, we heard ruffling in the front and knew the distraction had worked. She turned to me after the hole had been created.

"Ready?" She whispered, I nodded and moved to enter.

I looked around, there was just crates of weird looking foods. There was no one. No this can't be. I heard Remari gasp and radio the others to fall back, I turned to her with a grim look

"We'll need to retreat," I whispered as I began to head back to the hole. I froze when I heard shouting,  and a language I didn't understand.

"Oh crap Driml! Asher!" Remari whispered yelled as she realized that the soldiers guarding the hole had been caught by a demon.

"Ahsuri gimriah? Ahsuri gimriah!!"

"We- we don't know what you're saying!" I heard Asher say. Crap we're gonna have to fight out way out of this. I look at Remari as I take out my staff, she nods and draws her sword.

We barge out ready to attack and was greeted by about a dozen demons, they were tall and of different colors with horns and ancient tribal clothing, as if they were stuck in the past. damn it

"On you," I steadily say readying myself,

Everyone stayed still, waiting for the other to attack first, then Remari shouted. I lunged forward

"WAIT!"

That voice... Cathrine?
