I'm Broken

I still cannot believe what is happening right now, like realty I caused a war?! Damn who would have thought someone like me can do that.

It's not that I'm proud but it was the biggest thing I've done, it sure trumps that time where I built that big hole in my parent's backyard which coincidentally gave our neighbour a big scare when he fell in it and gave me big rashes from a few big spankings.

Filled with many thoughts in my head we enter the county Sandieth, it compares to Regara in size and to Euphillia in wealth. It's an amazing country which made me wonder why Pent would even leave.

"Ah home sweet home" Pent said sarcastically giving off the vibe that he didn't want to go back here.

"We're safe here atleast" Terri said giving off the same vibe as Pent.

"You're from here?" I ask her.

She paused thinking whether she would answer and after a while she answered.

"Yes"

It was a short and unresponsive answer so I didn't question any further but it made realize, I risked my life for this girl... twice.... yet what exactly do I know about her?

I've done this much for a stranger yet I've left my family without a second's thought. I'm both a jerk and a good person.... maybe I'll go back there someday and apologise but after this whole mess is over.

As we entered the first village we've been to since leaving Euphillia we took a break in a restaurant near it and I decided to learn more about Terri but before I could say anything a boy interrupted me.

He was a teenager like us but looked rich his attire looking like something nobility would wear like a Blue vest surrounded by many designs and ornaments with golden outlining and his pants were the same (kinda makes me want to rob him but I'm a good person so maybe the next time we meet) , and he was also handsome at that, with blue hair, pointy nose and indigo colored eyes. He was also slightly tall, taller than me but almost the same as Pent. Damn foreigners!

He took Terri by the hand and tried to take her away, somehow he looked very tired and anxious and as I tried to stop him I was intercepted by Pent.

"I know who you are" Pent said to the man.

Surprised he asked.

"You do?"

"Alister the second child of the Royal family Forheigh" Pent answered him

Wow royalty? I wonder if it has something to do with the preeminent war coming.

He had a look of dissapointment in his face and said.

"It's irrelevant I guess, now I apologise but I have to take this girl to Master"

Master? Oh no could it be this "Master" is Terri's supposed owner?

I couldn't let him take her so I stopped him.

He reacted to me by shoving me over as walked away with the girl while Pent nonchalantly sipped from his cup having no interest whatsoever.

I chased after him but something pulled me away and as I turned around it was water from below the ground created a hand figure which resisted my movements. Alright maybe I won't rob him, while he is awake atleast hwueh hwueh hwueh.

Not long after I was out powered and pulled to the ground and around that time Pent has been finished with his meal and helped me break free.

"What the hell are you doing?!" I shouted as a reply to his actions.

He merely sighed and gave me a smug smile.

"What is that girl to you Red? What would you do if she wants out? " he asked.

"What kind of question is that!" I was furious having lost all trace of Terri and that asshole Alister.

"You can see it but you just can't understand can you? Hands" He said as he left to pay for our meal.

I took a second to think about it and I realized Alister took Terri's hand and she gave very little resistance, what could this mean? Does she know him? Why not just say so? And what happens now?

Pent returned with the same smug insulting look as if he found Terri's kidnap somewhat interesting.

"Want to go to them?" He said as if his interest was somewhere else.

"Yes but I lost them" I sighed

"Magic is a two sided mirror my friend" He said as he walked towards the direction they went.

"This whole city is like a maze" I reminded him.

"Don't worry about it, his magic is like a string connecting to him. We can easily track them down"

"Let's go!" I ran after Pent

"That Alister, I've met him a few times back at our school in my city and he was always such an asshole, he always acted like just because he was royalty he was above everyone else. But now it seems something changed" Pent commented as we walked towards them.

Not long after we managed to catch up to Alister who seemed to have stopped and waited  for someone while Terri was nowhere to be found.

I immediately went to him but Pent seemed to have wandered off after bringing me to him.

"Hey!" I shouted.

He replied to me with a sigh and came towards me.

"I don't know what's going on in Viollette's head but she forced me to tell you all I know, I'll tell you the truth as thanks for protecting her then" Alister said

I merely paused at that time forgetting about Terri er Viollette, hm I guess it's a pretty name and suited her appearance too I guess. But what really bugged me is how Alister thanked me for protecting her, why would he do that? What is he to her?

Now that I think about it what am I?

Argh! Why does this girl keep on making my head hurt! And why do u care this much!?

While I was busy with my thoughts Alister began telling his story.

"A while back I promised my mentor to do anything he commanded and I even bet my life on it without knowing what it was" Stupid! What an idiot, if his mentor asked him to strip naked and run around town he would have been forced to do it.

Alister continued despite the clear judgement in my eyes.

"What he made me do is protect Viollette, little did I know how special she is" I hate where this is going. Damn it! If I had known some other guy was already her "special someone" I would have never saved her, well actually I still would have but still.... Damn!

"The next day I woke up and I was surprised to find out it was as if my mentor never existed" Just go to the part about Terri asshole I don't care about you or your non existent mentor.

"Everything had changed, I was no longer eldest child, I became a stranger to my only friend Pent Stylus and some other persons mysteriously existed" Nag Nag Nag damn dude just shut up, wait you were friends with  Pent? Pft hahaha well he didn't know that, I bet that's what happened with Terri too, you're in a relationship only you know about hahaha.

"I later found out it was all because of Viollette, she has the one of a kind power of transporting through other worlds" Finally, wait what? There are other worlds? Your not saying Terri is an alien are you?

"These other worlds are very similar and I was transported to another world, another life. A life where I was no longer an heir to the throne, where  I was no longer hindered by my title and I had all these other memories too but I'm still trapped unable to do anything for myself " You forgot to put 'where I am an asshole' but alright keep going.

"My only mission now is to protect Viollette until Master Baron gets done with his work and I will be finally free"

As I listen to his story I felt a sense of jealousy. Here is a boy given everything I ever wanted; amazing powers, wealth, a good story, handsome features, a purpose in life and most of all height, freaking foreigners! And yet here he is complaining about the life he has. I wanted to punch him I wanted to tell him I had it way worse! I wanted to tell him I was more suited to be with Viollette, but who am I to say so.

All my life I had been average, and I was never stopped from being reminded just that, I might save the girl but I still can't keep her and in the end I can't compete with Alister or even Prince, they had their life cut out for them, their own story. Who am I to steal a character and make her my own?

With these thoughts I realized I had fallen for Viollette. Maybe it was because of her looks or kindness but what I understood is that she was the only one who made me feel like being someone, she gave me a reason to keep going and be better. I felt like at peace with myself with her, but sadly I am not the one who gets the girl.

Alister and I conversed for a bit and took our separate ways. Him with Viollette and his mission while I escape from my actions with a sort of heart broken feeling.
