SURVIVAL, PART 4: Pain is part of the process

Although we wished to remain in this lovestruck condition, we couldn’t. The fear slowly came back, as one of the masked men, with a very long sword, was walking just past the wall in which we were hiding. He must’ve heard us somehow, for he started stabbing his sword in and out the small space in which we were. Each time his blade went close to us, nearly killing us in the process.

Suddenly, I felt the weight of Jace’s body on mine, as if he was completely lying on me. The blade had struck his knee, causing him to weaken and no longer be able to hold on his hands.

I looked at him, his eyes tearing, and covered his mouth with my hand hoping he would not scream. His weight did hurt me a little, but I didn’t care. I could feel his knee bleeding. I slowly removed my hand as I saw the pain on his face.
