Smile: Chapter III: The Doctor

RD's Point of View

The traffic is not that heavy today so I went to work early. "Good morning, RD. Sir Adrian is looking for Dainty, he said he will introduce her at their client's meet-up." My co-worker Kris said. I did not answer him for a while, instead, I put the things I brought on my work desk. "Oh, Dainty? I left her at home, she's still asleep on the couch hahaha." I answered after arranging my things on the desk. Kris just laughed and left immediately, because we do a lot now so almost all of us are busy. There are about ten of us here in the main branch of our company. Five engineers, Adrian and I are one of two civil engineers here and the others have different specializations. Then there are three architects, two of whom are Dainty and Kris. I immediately resumed my work. All I do is check the blueprint and this afternoon I will go to the construction site to check our ongoing project there, and thinking about my stressful work just makes me want to sleep. Seriously, I want a real good night’s sleep.

After a few minutes, the door slammed open, and Dainty arrived in a hurry that she almost fell! "Hello, Dainty. Are you okay? You're not yet late." Kris asked her who was at the door at that time and helped Dainty to stand still. "Is Sir Adrian still here?" Dainty asked while catching her breath. "Oh, Sir Adrian? He already left." Kris replied. Dainty looked at me angrily.

"You idiot! Why didn't you wake me up?" She spat angrily. I did not answer though, I just laughed. Dainty was about to go out again to follow Adrian but it was too late because Ma'am Gigi, our boss, has arrived. Ma'am Gigi said that there will be a special announcement today. We stayed silent when Ma'am Gigi, our boss, started talking.

"Okay, guys. I just like you to know that we got our partnership with Sosuke Engineering Company in Japan!"

We were all surprised and of course, we celebrated. It also took a few months for that deal to be approved. And because of that, Ma'am Gigi said it was about time to not work first so we could celebrate. That's why she also ordered a lot of food. In the afternoon, the celebration was still not over. Some of us have already bought wine. But Ma'am Gigi warned all of us to not get drunk.

"RD," Dainty called me so I looked at her.

"Hey, Engineer. I'll be leaving now; Sir Adrian wants me to meet our client today at the site." Dainty added and took another slice of pizza from the box. "Alright, go ahead. Make sure that you will be kind to the client hahaha. Be careful. Will I still pick you up?" I asked. She shook her head and added more hand gestures. "No, you don't have to pick me up. Just finish what you're doing. We didn't do anything today. We'll probably stay up again later hahaha."

"All right, as you wish. Be careful when you go home. I won't lock the door later."

"Okay bye-bye! I'll take care, you too!" She said, she still smiled and showed me a thumbs up before running out of the office. "Where is Dainty going?" Kris asked and pointed in Dainty's direction and that girl is still running. "I think he'll catch up with Adrian and their client," I answered and looked again at the laptop in front of me.

I was on the construction site when I received a chat from Dainty. Even though there is a celebration, I can't let go of my work.

Architect: Hey Engineer! Her name is Xariya Andraste. She is my client hahaha. She also looked kind! He also liked my design! I'm so happy about that and seems like my work will be fun HAHAHAHA.

I laughed a little at what she said. This woman tells me everything about her day and life. After that, I arranged my belongings again and planned to go home.

Xariya's Point of View

We are now at the place where my dream restaurant will be built, with Adrian who is my engineer in this project, and Dainty, the architect. The design she made was beautiful, it was as if she had read my mind because everything that I wanted like the layout, and designs for my restaurant were there in her draft plan.

I felt like I was sweating so I hid here in our tent first. It's summer so it's really hot, it's a must to eat ice cream. I looked at the construction workers today, there are probably fifteen of them. They are now talking to Adrian as I just look at the place. The ambiance is nice here and there is another building here but most of them are parlors and salons.

After a while, Adrian and Dainty returned here to our tent and they were also sweating. "I'm sorry, I still thought about building this in this time of summer. Now, we're all sweating." I apologized but they just smiled at me. "It's part of our work and besides we are happy with what we do," Adrian said and I just kept quiet, Dainty was also quiet and smiling but she looks pale. Why is it?

"Dainty, are you okay?" I asked worriedly but she just nodded and smiled at me. "Are you sure?" I'm both worried and curious now. "Of course, I'm okay ---" And before she could finish what she was about to say she immediately lost consciousness. Adrian and I were both shocked and worried that we did not know what to do, Adrian picked up Dainty. We just left the construction workers there with another engineer with them. When we got in Adrian's car he immediately drove and we took Dainty to the nearest hospital.

"Dr. Matteo? How is she?" I asked Dr. Matteo as he exited the emergency room. "She's fine, she might wake up soon and she needs to rest because she makes her body tired. Yeah, she's over fatigue." Dr. Matteo said and smiled. Wow, this doctor is handsome!

"All right Dr. Matteo, thank you." Adrian was the one who answered. "I'll go ahead now; I still have many patients to check." Dr. Matteo greeted us a farewell and we just smiled at him.

Adrian and I immediately went into the emergency room to look at Dainty and Dr. Matteo was right, she was overworked. "By the way, Adrian, did Dainty have a lot of projects right now?" I asked Adrian and he shrugged. "I don't know, but all I know is that she also does a lot in the office, I mean, we all do." He added.

"You're crazy! And you are still bothering Dainty, who is a busy person? The hell, don't you know any other architects, huh?" I said a little annoyed and slapped him on his shoulder. "Ouch! There are many architects but Dainty is the one I know the most so she is the one I took. And besides, she is good in her field."

"I'll agree to that and the nice design she made; I super love it."

"Yeah right, I will go now too, I'll just go back to those people on the site. And I will tell RD, my co-engineer what happened to Dainty." He spoke. "All right, be careful," I replied before he went away.
