Twenty-Nine

Over the next few days, Leigh got up and moved around, much to Ollie's displeasure. She just couldn't sit still, not after the week she had. She wanted to go home, to her dad, with Skylar. She went to visit Ash a couple of times too. Ash's movements were a little jerky, but she was getting better. Leigh talked to Hundred, but she was fairly busy. They were just on the verge of getting the truth out there. After visiting Ash again, Leigh went to the infirmary, to see the kids there. Some of them had their eyes closed, but others glanced at her, wondering. She stopped at the first girl's bed. She was one of Hundred's kids.

"Hi," she whispered to her.

"Hello."

"What's your name?"

"Three."

"No, your name."

Leigh's question caught her by surprise, but Three smiled warmly.

"Rose."

"Rose. Thank you for being so brave."

Rose smiled, but her eyes were sad.

"I lost my best friend, Lizzie." She looked down at her hands, which were in casts. Leigh's heart burst.
