Chapter 8

The girls were getting ready for their next activity in the locker room. It was time for football practice.

They had all changed into their school's sports wear; a white and blue t shirt with black shorts

"I wouldn't be caught dead in this stupid outfit if not for school" Ingrid told her friends

"Me neither" Mian said, putting on her fancy sneakers

"I only wear the most expensive clothing. Not this piece of trash"

Everyone was dressed apart from Amelia. She was sitting on one of the benches. Her outfit wasn't complete yet.

"You ready?" Helen asked her

"I don't have soccer boots"

"I have two. You can have one"

Helen brought out a pair of boots from her bag and gave it to Amelia. Amelia hugged her in gratitude

"Thank you so much"

"You're welcome. Wear them so we can go"

After Amelia was done wearing the shoes, they made their way to the field. All the year one students were waiting for the sports teacher; Mr Atlas

The girls giggled as Dion and Mr Atlas walked into the field.

"Oh my gosh. Look at Dion" Mian giggled

"Fix my hair" Ingrid instructed

Sarah and Mian fixed Ingrid's long white hair to perfection. When they were done, Ingrid put on her best smile.

"Hi Dion" Ingrid said, waving at him

"Hey" he replied, flashing her a smile

"Oh my gosh. Guys, did you see that? He smiled at me" Ingrid told her friends excitedly.

Mr Atlas and Dion stood in front of them. Dion was holding a ball with a whistle on his neck.

"Good day class" Mr Atlas greeted

"Good day sir"

"Welcome to soccer club. As you all know we have four halls in this school; Hall Hemon, Hall Ajax, Hall Creon and Hall Lexon. We have championships every year. We always do tryouts for the first years in the first week. The people who pass will be part of the football team, that is if you're interested"

Ingrid scoffed

"Why would I be interested about getting dirty?" Ingrid said

"Shut up Ingrid" Edward said

"Watch your mouth, Iris"

"This is a game to test your self control" Mr Atlas continued "Mostly earth elementals can learn this because they people have more control ground activities more than the rest elements. This game is played by mortals. The only difference is girls and boys get to play on the same team. Magic is not allowed. Any player that uses magic will be disqualified. I'll group you into two so we can start the game"

There were 36 students in the earth element in year one. Mr Atlas grouped them into two; 16 players on each team and two goalkeepers for each team

"You know the rules. You see it on the TV. Start at the blow of the whistle "

Dion put the ball in the middle of the two teams. He blew his whistle and the game commenced

Amelia got hold of the ball then passed it to Edward. Edward ran to the goal post, the ball still in his control, and kicked hard as he could. He scored it. His teammates cheered. Luckily, Helen, Amelia and Edward were on the same team while Ingrid, Sarah and Mian were on the rival team.

"Good job Eddy" Helen said

He High fived her and Amelia

The game continued. Ingrid managed to get hold of the ball to impress Dion. Amelia struggled to get it from her.

Due to ingrid's poor balance, she fell in the dirt. Amelia continued to race down the field, dodging people who tried to get the ball from her.

Dion watched her in admiration. He and Mr Atlas were sitting on the bleachers taking notes of the good players on the team.

"That girl is good" Dion told Mr Atlas

"Who? Walker?"

"Yes. See how she took control of the ball effortlessly"

"True. Let's see if she can score"

Amelia kicked the ball so fast that the goal keeper didn't know which direction to go. He ended up missing, making Amelia score it. Once again, her teammates cheered.

Ingrid screamed. Everyone turned around to see what the problem was

"What's the matter?" Mr Atlas asked

He and Dion came back to the field in a rush. They were scared that something bad had happened.

"I'm covered in mud" Ingrid cried

"Drama queen" Helen said, rolling her eyes

Mr Atlas snapped his fingers and Ingrid was clean again.

"Are you okay now?" He asked her

"Yes"

"That's enough for today. Dion is the head of hall Hemon's football team. He'll announce the results"

"Please step aside as I call your names and group yourselves into your various halls" Dion said

Amelia couldn't help but admire the way he spoke with authority.

"Hall Ajax; Elizabeth, Christian, Judith and Gwen"

They stepped aside as he spoke

"Hall Creon; Madison,Josh, George, Michael and Bryan. Hall Hexon; Louis and Melanie. Hall Hemon ; Edward, Larsen and Amelia"

The remaining students cheered for those who were picked.

"Congratulations" Dion said to them "You will have practice every Saturday. Hemon hall has practice on the field. Your hall captains will tell you where to practice. If there's any activity during the week, you will be informed. "

"That's all for today. Well done" Mr Atlas said

The bell rang signalling time for lunch. They ran into the corridors. Edward, Amelia and Helen walked to the cafeteria together

"I might have to quit football" Edward complained sadly

"Why? You're really good" said Helen

"I can't see without my glasses. I might get them broken or worse"

Ingrid and her friends laughed from behind them

"Funny how your surname is Iris and you can't see" Mian teased

"Pay them no mind" Amelia said to Edward

They lined up for lunch in the cafeteria then took their food to a table.

"Are you still gonna put the frog in their food?" Helen asked Edward

"Yes"

Luckily, Ingrid's table was opposite them. Edward brought out his wand in a way no one would notice.

He chanted his spell "They hurt me and my friends. That wasn't right, let frogs appear in Ingrid, Sarah and Mian's rice"

The next sound that was heard was ear piercing screams from the three girls.

Everyone gasped as frogs came out of their food

Helen and Amelia laughed under the table

"That'll teach her" Edward said
