Chapter 9

The next day, the class teacher; Miss Scofield pasted a progress report of all the children on the wall. This is done in order to know the star pupil of each year for every school session.

Any good deed rewards points while any bad deed deducts points. Points were given or deducted according to actions. Any teacher at all could add or reduce points.

The charts were magically inclined in the sense that anywhere a teacher says something about points being added or reduced, the student's score changes accordingly immediately regardless of where the student and teacher are. Only teachers have this power of course.

The days flew by fast. Amelia improved vastly throughout the week.

She was secretly counting down the says till she would see Jeran again. She, Edward and Helen got closer if that was possible. They read and did their homework together every evening in the common room or in the library.

It was hard working in the library due to Edward's sleeping problems. He slept a lot but his two friends were always there to help.

During their break time, they would discuss about the events that took place at school or whatever came to mind.

Currently on a Saturday morning, the year one students were gathered in the mail room. Every Saturday, all students go to the mail house- each year has their own room with student's names written on each locker.

Parents and guardians were allowed to send packages or letters through their magic mailboxes every Friday. They would write the address stating where they wanted it to go and the mailbox would teleport it to the location.

All the lockers had padlocks which were opened by keys. Since this is the first time for the year one's, their keys were given to them that morning as they entered.

As the years moved on, the lockers would shift to the next year as they were supposed to be unless a student repeats a year, is expelled or leaves the school.

Everyone in the room was filled with laughter as they got letters and delicious treats from their families.

Amelia stood rooted to the floor looking at her locker. She was scared to open it and find it empty. How would she bear the embarrassment?

"Look girls" Ingrid said to Sarah and Mian "Daddy got me the latest designer robe. Mom got sweets and drinks enough for all of us".

Sarah and Mian stared at the treats in awe. Ingrid looked at Amelia in disgust.

"What's wrong Walker? No presents? Looks like they were happy to get rid of you" Ingrid said.

The three girls laughed

"I heard she was banished by the neighbours when her father died" Mian said

"Leave her alone" Helen said standing beside Amelia

"Look guys" Mian scoffed "It's her sidekick"

"Did you brush your teeth this morning?" Helen asked "cause I can swear I smelled something bad immediately you opened your mouth"

Mian gasped in horror. She and her friends walked away.

Edward came towards them holding a box in his hands.

"Hey, look what my parents got me" he showed them. Tears fell from Amelia's eyes

"That's so great" Helen said "my parents got me a robe and lots of chocolates"

"What about you?" Edward asked Amelia

He and Helen were shocked when they saw her crying.

"My parents are dead and I have no other relative" Amelia sobbed

Helen and Edward hugged her in a comforting manner.

"Don't cry" Helen's voice was hoarse. She shed a few tears too

"You can have some of my stuff" Edward offered

"Mine too" Helen added

Amelia smiled weakly

"Thank you"

"Why don't you just open it" Helen suggested "You never know"

"You think I should?"

Edward nodded

"No harm trying" he said

Amelia hesitantly opened her locker with shaky hands. To her greatest surprises, there was a letter inside. Helen squealed loudly.

"I told you!" Helen said

"Who's it from?" Edward asked taking a peak at it.

Amelia took the letter and opened it

Dear Amelia,

How have you been? You've been doing great from what I've seen so far. I've been watching you improve this week. I heard you got a spot on the football team. Congratulations! I've also been seeing you around with two people who I assume are your friends. I'm happy you're getting along well. Saturdays are free for students unless you have football practice (which you do by 4pm after lunch) I was wondering if you and your friends would like to come visit. We could talk over tea. I live in a little hut in the woods. The description is in this letter; do keep it a secret please. I'm expecting you

From your friend

(If you consider me as that)

Jeran Woods

By the time they had finished the letter. She was smiling widely. It was to lovely to know someone cared about her

"Who's Jeran Woods?" Edward and Helen asked

Amelia grinned widely and answered

"You'll see"
