CHAPTER 4
Blake POV
I groaned in my sleep because of the severe headache and slowly peeled my eyes open only to find myself sprawled on the couch. My eyes focused on the ceiling while I tried to recall last night’s events. A little walk through my memory lane and soon everything was coming back to me.
I sighed at the blurry memories and got up from the couch just to hold my head because of the headache. I immediately sat back on the couch for some time while my mind kept thinking of ways to get off the hook of media. They surely are going to write the same shit about who the new girl is? Did he finally found the one? Is he going to settle down soon or continue his playboy act? Only if they knew it’s not what they call playboy act. For all I know, I rarely fuck random chicks maybe once in a month and that is also with their consent.
Sighing once again I finally got up and walked towards the cabinets to find some pills to get rid of my hangover. Once I found the pills, I drowned two of them and went straight to grab a hot shower.
As I stood under the running hot water my stiff muscles relaxed and a content sigh made past my lips, all the while thinking about how I managed to land in a company as the CEO.
I’m Blake Edwards, the CEO of wealth group of companies. It’s my family business so I basically got everything on a silver platter and didn’t have to struggle for startups, investment, and all the other stuff.
We are known in America and some other countries around the world. For quite some time, I am being listed as one of the most eligible bachelors’ in America and also one of the notorious; something my dad hates but can’t do anything about it.
As for me, I’m just 27 years old and I don’t intend to settle down anytime soon or even have a serious relationship. The sole reason I don’t join weekend family dinners since it always ends up on when I’m marrying or who I am seeing and worst do I ever plan to have a girlfriend.
With the thoughts still running in my head, my shower came to an end and arrived the countless meetings.
…*….*….
I enter my office and look around for my secretary but don’t see any trace. Without thinking much about my secretary, I sit and relax in my swiveling chair while sipping my coffee, which I got from the nearby café while coming here. I was peacefully sipping my coffee and nursing my hangover when my secretary barges in, out of breath. “Sorry, but I got a call from CAREFOUR GROUP OF COMPANIES and they want to look at our idea as they liked the presentation Rory presented them two days ago. They also said they are ready to have a business partnership with us.” I can’t believe what I am hearing, they agreed. Oh Jesus! I need to tell dad; he would be ecstatic to hear this news.
Carefour group of companies is known around the globe for their amazing products and services. They are in every field be it clothes, perfumes, steel, wood, shoes, or anything other than weapons. I have been working hard to get this contract with them and now I’m finally going to get it. This would take our company to new heights; I was busy thinking about the future when I heard my secretary saying something in lines “… so should I announce?”
I finally snap out and look at my secretary Alexander. He is 1 or 2 inches shorter than me with baby blue eyes and sun-kissed brown hairs. He is quite handsome and manly for a 25-year-old guy. He is built nicely and has skin paler than snow white. He raised his perfect brownish brow at my lack of answer and I finally deadpan, “Repeat what you said? I didn’t listen to a single word.”
He scoffed and replied “Of course, you didn’t. I was saying they would like to have the meeting two days later from today at 10:00 am. So, should I announce to the staff so that they can prepare themselves accordingly?”
“Ok, and also mail me all the details of the project and requirements for this meeting. And reschedule the next two days, no extra meetings.” I said while placing down my coffee mug on the glass table.
“On it...” and with that Alex went to do the assigned work while I decided to give a call to dad.
Dad was more than happy when he got the news and thought we need to celebrate by having lunch together. I wanted to say no but then I didn’t since dad was just too happy and excited. We decided to meet at a nearby restaurant for lunch and discuss more of it.
Putting aside all my thoughts, I began to work on the upcoming meeting and in minutes I was submerged in work.
…*…*….
I was so immersed in my work; I didn’t notice it was already lunchtime. I was still going through some last-minute changes for the meeting scheduled for this evening when Alex barged into my office. I continued doing my work when he said “You are going to die someday and the worst part is you won’t let me live either.”
At this, I frowned and looked up to see his distressed face. “And why would you say that?” I asked while relaxing in my chair and closing my eyes.
“Because your dad called me to remind you about the lunch and also to issue your death notice since you are late. It’s already lunchtime.” My eyes flew open at this and I stared at him with complete horror on my face.
“You are telling me this, now. Mom will kill us and if I got anymore late, I doubt she will spare dad either. You should have reminded me earlier.” I rambled.
“Just so you know sir, you have not bothered to inform me about such an important lunch which may result in severe consequences. You should be grateful that your dad called. And will you hurry now?”
I had already picked up my car keys and phone when he was speaking and was ready to leave. I nodded at him rushed towards the elevator and went to my car. I checked my phone on the way and saw 4 missed calls and 2 messages from dad. I sighed and checked the address of the restaurant where we are supposed to meet. And in 15 minutes I was pulling up in the parking lot of the famous restaurant ‘The Carlton’.
Everyone thinks there is nothing that could scare me and my dad but they are so wrong, one look from mom is all it takes to make us do anything. It’s not just dad and me, the whole staff in the office knows not to piss her off. Even Alex is scared of her as she has had frequent conversations with him and he apparently is good at figuring out whom not to mess with, I mused while walking inside the restaurant.
I soon reach the reception and ask about my reservation but instead of getting my table, I got carried away in flirting with the receptionist. I was ready for a quickie, after all, dad could hold mom for some more time. I was about to say something to the receptionist when I heard the voice I dread, “BLAKE EDWARDS.”
I lower my head and saw the receptionist scurrying away from the corner of my eye while I sighed knowing well what is waiting for me. “First, you are late and now you are flirting here.”
She then looked away for a second and with a mischievous glint continued, “You are staying with us on the weekend. And don’t worry I will make them worthy enough for you to remember not to be late on family calls”.
Mom had that mocking smile on her lips, asking me to defy her, and I was left with no other option than to agree with her. Dad was soon standing beside mom with a sympathetic look on his face and nodded towards me knowing well it’s a lost battle.
