Chapter 12 Ambush

Vince heard his subordinate say that the lookout whom they have set has found their target and was following them from a distance. The bandits who were also following the lookout from behind. The strategy this time was to have the bandits set up an ambush in the late night to act as the diversion for the guards who were with the target while the main team wait for the right opportunity to take out the targets. Vince was a former mercenary and a level 5 warrior. He was extremely experienced in fights. He retired after he failed to reach level 6 warrior within the age of 30 and set up a bandit group along with his former teammates who were level 4 warriors in the Rainforest. Though being a bandit had its risks, it was a calculated one as so long he was careful in choosing his target he could get rich. However to run a decent bandit group he required funding from a local clan, so he approached a local tyrant of Shell city which was the direct checkpoint through Rainforest. He approached Vasily family for financial support after collecting information from a local bar about the two big families in Shell city. From the information he obtained Walker family had money and manpower and Vasily family was lacking wealth compared to its competitor. So Vince approached the Vasily family with his proposition who accepted it and welcomed him with open arms. Vince and Vasily family's head had a talk about the distribution of profit and finally came to a 35-65 split with Vince taking 35% and Vasily family taking 65% profit.

Vince with the funding from Vasily family recruited a total of 20 warriors composed of 2nd and 3rd levels while a bunch of normal crooks and 1st level warriors as bandit group while contacting his former team members who were fourth level warriors to form a main squad as the base to run the bandit group while rest were nothing but a tool for diversion and disposable pawn in case of any mishap. Right now Vince received a mission from the person who funded his group to kill the Walker family head's son. He already knew about the competition between Vasily family and Walker family and knew that killing the Walker family's sons would incur the wrath of the Walker family's clan head. However they had already created a diversion of bandits causing problems in the Rainforest recently which will result in blame falling on the bandit group. Though the bandit members knew about him, they only think of him as the boss and does not know about his connection with Vasily family. In the end they were only a group of disposable pawns and once this mission is completed he would just recruit another group of crooks to continue the bandit work.

Vince who received the news from his subordinate asked him to leave while talking to his former team members." We will wait nearby to watch the ambush and strike at the right time. Our target this time is Wendell Walker who is a fifth level warrior and Sean Walker is a second level warrior. Callen the captain of the guards is a freebie". The other members who heard Vince nodded their heads stating their understanding and started going towards the place which they have set previously to watch the ambush.

The carriage along with the guards were moving through the rain towards their camp as Wendell had his eyes closed inside the carriage while hugging his sword while Sean was leaning against the box which had their rations while all money and dresses were placed in a spatial pouch. Sean also had the system which had storage and of course he has to buy for every additional cubic meter. In the system he has stored his arsenal, which was actually easier than having them over his shoulder. He however had a handgun and a military tactical combat knife as backup weapon inside the pocket of his blazer in case of emergency purposes. Soon they arrived at the camp site where the guards decided to camp for the night. The guards set up various tents while placing it in the shades of the surrounding trees they also placed quilts for both Sean and Wendell inside the carriage for them to sleep. Wendell and Sean got out of the carriage to look around the campsite. It was one of those places where the rain was not heavy while the land was flat with grasses rather than mud and swamp. There were big trees which gave shelter against the rain. Sean looked around the forest and all he could see was tall trees which obstructed his sight. While in the forest Sean felt nostalgic as he had to engage enemies in the forest many times while he was in SEAL.

While Sean was looking around, he did not know there were eyes which were looking towards him from within the trees. These eyes were none other than bandits who were waiting for the camp to settle in while waiting for the time to ambush the targets. The camp was set as they readied themselves to have dinner. Time passed by as the guards set themselves a routine of who would watch the camp while others rested. Two guards of third level were chosen to guard and the guards will be changed once every three hours. Sean and Wendell slept within the carriage while the guards other than those who were on the lookout moved to their tents. The forest was completely silent other than the sound of rain falling as night quietly passed. Sean who was always aware of his surroundings heard the sound of footsteps along with sound of mud splashing as he was jolted awake. Sean slightly shifted the curtain to peak out and saw the place was quiet apart from rain splattering against the ground. Despite there not being any movement he knew that there was an ambush being laid by someone. Early morning around 1.00 am to 3.00 am is always the perfect time for an ambush as that time would be when guards would fall asleep. Knowing that the opponent had chosen the best timing to ambush, he knew that they were being watched for quite sometime, possibly as early as when they entered the forest. Thinking this Sean thought 'Damn I have become rusty due to not engaging in any actual combat for 12 years. I did not even realise that someone was watching me'. Sean equipped himself with night vision goggles as he looked at his surroundings once again. He could see many heads peeking out of various trees and looking at the numbers there were nearly 30 in number or perhaps even more. Sean looked at the guards and noticed that the two lookout did not notice it.

Sean readied himself for the battle by taking out an assault rifle along with a laser light and and a silencer. He silently crept out of the carriage and took cover behind a bush and took the aim at the left most bandit who was peaking from behind the tree. The bandits had formed a semi circle from left to right. Suddenly from inside the tents the guards rushed out taking their swords while the captain shouted "Ambush, everyone prepare yourself for battle". Though the lookout guards could not identify the ambush, there were a few ex-mercenaries within our family's guards who quickly reacted before the bandits could attack. However it was evident that they were not prepared for the ambush and were severely outnumbered. The reason they did not get killed was because the guards had better power than the bandits which created a temporary stalemate. Callen with his fast dash and quick swing of his sword, he already decapitated three bandits heads. From the time Callen shouted to attack till him killing three bandits not even 5 seconds were taken. At this time Wendell rushed out of the carriage and dashed to attack the bandits in front of him while thinking 'Where the hell is Sean' as he killed the bandit in front of him while scanning around to check the whereabouts of his brother. Just as Sean was planning to kill some bandits covertly to help reduce the burden of the guards, he suddenly felt danger coming from straight ahead from within the darkness. Sean quickly took out a scope and fixed it in assault rifle and looked towards the forest and scanned to see the possible threat. He identified a total of five people hidden behind the tree as from within the shadow.

"Who are these guys? Are they also bandits?. No these guys seem to be looking at my brother" thought Sean as he saw Wendell rush to kill the bandits towards the left.

"These guys seem to target my brother and me" thought Sean as he understood that the bandits were just a diversion and their main target was himself and his brother. Thinking this Sean adjusted his assault rifle to single shooting mode and shot the bandit to the extreme left covertly while moving towards a location where he can take a clear shot at the five hidden enemies.
