Chapter 4 - New creatures

Ani Cien woke up from the system's alarm. Prompting him to prepare for daily tasks, the alarm turned itself off after recognizing that the scientist has woke up. Ani walked up to a mirror with a cleaning set for the teeth by the side. He picked the toothbrush and started brushing his teeth, looking at the mirror. He turned his eyes to his surroundings. All white as it can be.

The room is has a white bed, white wall with a little hint of gray, white floor, a plain mirror in front of his face and a clear window where the sky can be seen through the transparent glass. It's a futuristic vibe this world has been emanating from the entrance but the plain setting of the bedroom clearly shows where the budget goes.

I hear a two scientists talking outside.

"Good morning, did you hear about the latest event?"

One lad asked the other.

"Events? There's no events here. Only work"

The other replied with confidence.

I have been working on the Aureus Laboratory as an assistant over the past days. The one lad talking to is an old fellow in his 40s. It seems the number of years working on this lab got him thinking that it's all work. There was an event-like announcement that I may have missed but it's a rather depressing matter for other scientists when they heard it. I wonder what the announcement is.

Ani Cien recalled the reminder that appeared yesterday. After he brushed his teeth, he wiped through the screen of the mirror, looking for a specific article. There were some glitch in the system and he tried it a few times in order to swipe properly. A headline as it presented to him by a hologram.

That would mean that the sister Laboratory it talks about is the Laboratory he's in. He felt worrisome as this is the first month of work. And what brought him these feelings of worry are the scientists running from one part of the place to another corner of the departments. There are various departments in this laboratory, with Ani Cien being placed on the maintenance department. They deal with cleaning and checkups of the machineries inside the laboratory. The announcement may have something to do with the transfer of creatures. It's not his job for profiling creatures in their database.

But the vast amount of creatures lining up can be called less to the lines of people forming in Akihabara. There are many creatures in the entrance hall, it's a large amount in detail and there are a lot of species and variations with the creatures. The scream can be heard outside the laboratory and into the basement. On the side of the transparent window, I spot a creature where the scream came from. Some even walks in the basement like it's their own home while shackled with chains and accompanied by guards, are we tending to VIP creatures?

Ani Cien is pulled up to the side to help out with the huge line forming. It's tiresome work but with his barely capable skills he can do it. But the scientists beside him are profiling the creatures and are working at extremely fast speeds. It makes one wonder if the scientist are creatures themselves. The clock runs for about a few hours and Ani Cien felt exhausted. Good thing someone subbed with him to take the profiling work, it's the guy that he heard talking outside his room earlier (aged 40).

Chances are that there might be outside creatures blending in this laboratory that's why we are profiling the records, there will be a thorough checkup and comparison with the sister laboratory's database of creatures. If there are new creatures without a name in both of the laboratories' database, we will send them to other laboratories. Ani Cien went to the cafeteria to get some food. He saw two creatures a snake (lamia) and a pale human. The scenery looking like a re-enactment of that genesis chapter gone wrong for the lamia and the human that has an aura of blood, he got curious at their eating habits. Flesh of meat and blood packs, I see meat and blood on their cafeteria plates. Nope, Ani Cien avoided them.

This isn't a representation of Halloween or anything. It's how these creatures biology and diet is. He saw on a corner of a cafeteria a scientist getting a drink from the vending machine and walking out into the courtyard with cola in hand. He seems to be used on dealing with creatures. A creature flew down to him. He got surprised and his cola got spilled. But his approach was well toned from a creature but the scientist didn't like the sudden approach. A scream of a creature electrocuted can be heard.

I examined the collars on the creatures around me. These collars are rather harsh. It has an electrocution function in it to apprehend disobedient creature. But that's only a spilled drink on the shirt and that made the scientist angry. As he was about to go for a kick the creature's face, Ani Cien didn't want to see this sheetshow anymore and approached the scientist. Just before the shoe made contact, a male scientist stopped his feet by blocking it with his own. The female scientist that is with him helped up the creature. The female reprimanded the scientist since it's just a drink. The scientist that got his shirt ruined refuted the reason and it went into full argument.

Ani turned away at the situation to not get involved further. He ordered from the kitchen staff, a meal set. The meals here are rather peculiar as the creatures have on their plates. The sludge of green looking like goo can be described as the taste of ice cream as it is eaten. It's a vegan menu. And the pack of milk juice is well, milk.

Ani Cien drank from the milk and wiped the white foam on his mouth with the tissue and headed to the side of the hallways. He didn't waste time after eating, he brought out the cleaning materials and tools. Placed the items behind the back of a small vehicle and drove to the basement.

The dark floors of the basement scrolled through.
