Girls Day out

I walked in the hallway seeing number of unknown faces on my way to mom's room, all of them were either filled with anxiety or sadness.

Well, that's the casual feeling you feel at a hospital.

I passed gynecologic ward on my way, where I saw a guy holding his new born baby in his hands,  tears running down his cheeks with a blessed smile on his face. The sudden change in scenarios made me smile.

'Of course, it's not the place that only takes our lives, it's also the place that gives lives.' I mused looking at the duo in front of me.

I hurried to mom's room to see her. I slowly opened the door to see a nurse standing and talking to mom so I took slow steps towards them and stood behind the nurse who was giving her a dose.

"You are doing better now," nurse told mom applying some injections in her drip.

Mom gave her a weak smile at which I made my presence known to both of them.

"That's a relief," nurse turned a little bit and gave me a nod.

"You are back early," mom said looking at me.

"Yeah," I replied showing her the juice I said, "Here's your favorite Apple juice,"

And put the straw in her juice to give it to her.

"Thanks," Mom said curtly and started to drink the juice. I turned my attention to the nurse who was now done with mom's medicines.

"Is it possible to take her on a walk today?" I asked her hopefully.

Mom stopped for a moment to look at the nurse who was now looking at mom's health records I presume.

"That should not be a problem, but the walk can not be too long, she is still not strong enough." I nodded my head with understanding.

Mom smiled and started to drink her juice again. "You guys can go after her IV is finished," nurse said with a small smile and moved out.

Once the nurse was out I put my attention towards mom who was almost finished with her juice.

"So where do you wanna go?" I asked her cheerfully.

Mam made a thinking expression, even I knew her answer was still going to be the same, and she said that,

"Why don't we go to a park for a walk? Then have some food out of this hospital I'm tired of it." She declined with her pretty smile.

I nodded at that, "That could be arranged,"

I put the chair again near her bed and sat down on it, "Once your IV is finished we will go for the walk, and then we will have your favorite Bucatini Pasta, I heard there is a new Italian restaurant near the hospital."

Her face beamed with happiness and she nodded excited.

"So where did you go?" Mom started to ask me. "I had few things to do so I thought I should complete them before you wake up," I said looking around the room. One of the habits I have.

Mom did not question me anymore and started to tell me how the nurse have been taking care of her and how she felt better now.

I kept on listening her laughter and conversation, putting few words here and there myself.

After half an hour mom was finally free, so I went out and asked one of the staff members to remove her machines so that I might take her out.

I washed her face and changed her in her light blue dress that she used to love before she was admitted to the hospital.

Then we started to make our way out of the hospital with her now on a wheelchair, because I didn't want her to be tired after walking so much.

"It's refreshing to be out," Mom gushed when we entered the garden.

I shook my head at her excitement and said, "We can come here more often if you like that."

"We can?" She asked looking at beautiful flowers blooming in the park and children playing in there.

"I can ask Dr. Watson about that I'm sure he would allow that," I told her.

She nodded her head at me and again started to look at the kids who were running around in the park.

"You remember when we used to come here?" She asked still looking there.

I nodded at her. " Yeah," I answered curtly.

"You were such a naughty kid, you know." She said smiling probably remembering our happy moments.

"I remember, once you wanted to play with a guy and he was probably playing with another girl, and he ignored you. You know what you did ?" She asked me. I was going to defend myself when she said herself.

"You went and threw your juice all over the poor girl, and started to cry that she was fighting with you." She said laughing.

"No, I did not." I defended.

"Oh you probably did, " mom said in a sing-song voice.

"I only did that because she WAS FIGHTING with me, really". I said stressing on the words.

Mom shook her head and said, "Yeah right,"

I laughed with her as well and started to walk ahead again.

Then I decided to go eat our dinner as it was going to dark soon, and I had to reach hospital before night, Doctor's order.

We were both sitting in the restaurant after 15 minutes.

A waitress with a menu came to take our orders and mom ordered her pasta with a juice, because she is not allowed to drink.

"Wow," mom said sniffing when waitress placed the pasta in front of her. I smiled at her.

"Eat more mom," I said and started eating mine own.

Both of us talked about anything and everything. It was one of the best feelings I had in months.

We decided to walk back to the hospital as restaurant was near the hospital.

"It was great going out after so long," mom said now lying on her bed.

"We will go soon again mom," I said giving her her medicines. "Of course," she nodded.

After few moments I could see mom's eyes dropping even though she was trying to resist sleeping.

"Sleep now mom," I said kindly covering her with blankets. "We will talk more tomorrow morning," I declared.

"Okay, we shall talk tomorrow we still have to plan for your shopping," she said yawning.

I again nodded and gave her forehead a small peck.

"Good night," I said. But she was already fast asleep. I decided to look through my texts to see whether Jason had texted me or not.

I know he told me to wait, but I thought maybe he would tell me what was he going to say.

"I'll just have to wait I guess," I muttered scrolling through my messages those were filled with mobile service messages.

I placed my head on mom's bed and found myself dozing off.
