With Gratitude

We approached the car in silence as I couldn't help but sense a feeling of foreboding for the upcoming meeting with father. I glanced at Cain briefly, studying his profile when he returned my gaze and the corners of his lips curled upwards in a smile.

"Here, go on inside." Cain opens the car door for me as Dan stood awkwardly to the side, lowering his hand that was originally intended to do the job Cain had just done.

"Th-thank you." I replied shyly, scratching my cheek out of embarrassment as I ducked and entered the backseat of the car.

Cain shuts my car door before making his way over to the other side of the door and sitting beside me. Our gazes met as he leaned over to buckle my seatbelt.

A heat crept up from my chest, warming my body as he got closer and closer that I had to squeeze my eyes shut. His scent grew stronger as I clenched my fists, a feeling of anticipation momentarily taking over from the original feeling of foreboding.
