Weight Of A Broken Promise

I entered the living room, my heartbeat pounding in my eardrums as I felt my palms grow clammy. I relaxed my hands, keeping them to my side to feign a calm demeanour despite the anxiety eating away inside me.

"Father, I've arrived." I announced, walking over to the side of the sofa set before bowing slightly.

"About time, you're the first to keep me waiting this long." Father frowns as he folds his legs while glancing briefly at my face.

I took the opportunity to glance around the room, my eyes meeting with familiar ones as I froze where I stood. I blinked once, then twice, to confirm that I was not hallucinating.

I know those eyes anywhere…

"Sylvain!" I exclaimed, staring wide eyed at him while he simply wiggled his fingers in my direction.

"Hey, I kind of bumped into your family on the way over." He smiles, his expression pretty much spelling out the fact that he was oblivious to my inner conundrum.
