Blueth Mendoza's POV
"Well, what do we have here?"
My eyes grew wide as I heard the voice of someone behind me.
"I'm sorry for trespassing!!!" I yelled as I ran as fast as I can towards the door. I ran fast but I didn't run elegantly. While running I knocked over another stack of chairs and they crashed down on me, making me stuck, again.
"Oh, come on!" I said as I quickly started kicking away the chairs, trying my best to loosen a chair again.
Seriously? How many stacks of chairs do they have here? And why do they stack chairs!?
"Awe, look at this Cathy, the kid got stuck on the stacks of chairs."
"Ah! No! Please don't eat me! I don't taste good! I tried tasting myself, you will regret eating me! Please let me go!" I begged as I kept trying to free myself.
"What? Eat you? Why would I eat you?"
"Well, aren't those what scavengers do to kids they find? At least, that's what people around town say."
"Okay, kid? First of all, I am not one of those scavengers, and second, I don't eat humans. A human eating another human? That's just wrong on so many levels." The lady said as she started helping me get unstuck. The lady looked like she's in her early 20's or something, I'm not good at guessing age, okay?
"So, you won't eat me?"
"Uhh, kid, I answered your question over and over, no, I won't eat you. Besides, why would I eat a potential customer?"
"Oh, thank goodness--- wait? Customer?"
The lady smiled as she walked back a few steps. "That's right, Customer! Welcome to Proofreading Services! The service where we help you correct mistakes with your books!"
The lady said as she did this pose and lights started turning on, revealing a sign which says 'Scamming Services'
"Uhmm, not to be rude and all but, your sign says 'scamming services'." I said as I got out from the pile of chairs that fell on top of me.
"Hmm? Oh yeah, I forgot to change the sign last night. Oh well, I'll change it later." The lady said as she looked at the sign while placing both her hands on both sides of her waist.
We both looked at the sign for a couple of minutes, I don't know why we stared at the sign, we just did.
"Meow." I stopped looking at the sign when I felt something rub against my legs. I looked down and I saw the cat rubbing her soft fur against my legs while she was purring.
"Oh, my, god!" I said as I picked up the cat. "You, are, so, freaking, cute!" I said as I hugged the cat and kept cuddling her. "Yes, you are! You are just adorable!"
"Keep doing that and you may just take her home with you." The lady said as she sat down on a chair. I stopped giving affections to the cat and I looked at her.
"Can I really take her home with me!? Can I!?"
"Ha! In your dreams kiddo, Cathy here is my best employee! She's my only employee at that. So there is no way that I will just willingly let Cathy go with you."
"Well, I'll just give her so much love that she'll beg me to take her home with me! Isn't that right Cathy?" I said as I continued giving affection to Cathy.
"Keep on dreaming kiddo. Anyway, on to business matters. How can we help you proofreading your story?" The lady said as she walked behind the counter. The counter was dusty but she didn't bother in wiping it, she just placed down this huge book, and by huge, I mean really huge! Dust flew everywhere as the lady dropped the book on top of the counter.
"You could've at least wiped the dust off as you dropped it?" I said as I fanned away the dust with my hands.
"It'll get dirty again, so why bother cleaning it? So, about that story of yours which needs to be proofread? Do you have it? How many chapters does it have? What genre is it?" She said as she opened the book and started writing on it.
"Oh no, I'm not here to have a story proofread."
The lady stopped writing and she looked at me. "So, you are not a customer?"
"Actually no, I came here and was wondering if you would want someone to help you in proofreading books. I am actually looking for a job." I said as I gave my biggest smile, bigger than the smile I gave earlier. The lady just looked at me with this annoyed expression.
"Beat it, kid!" The lady said as she slammed the door on my face. Well, there goes my hopes of finally getting accepted. I let out a big sigh as I sat down on the stairs of the place, the smile starting to leave my face. "Who am I kidding? Why am I always expecting that people will hire me right off the bat? Those types of things only happen in books and movies, right?"
"You are right there kid, it's not easy getting jobs these days. It's not right off the bat that they'll accept you to work for them. Look at me, I started looking for a job when I was fourteen years old, and I am still looking for a job now." An old man said as he was leaning on a lamp post. I looked around to see if he was talking to me, and yes, he was talking to me. Was I talking really loudly again? Okay, I need to stop doing that. I didn't say anything, I just looked at him. As much as I wanted to talk to him, I couldn't find the right words to say. "Well, I'll get going now, jobs won't come to you if you just sit around. Job attempt number nine thousand and eighty-one, here I come!" The old man said as he started walking away.
"Well, I guess I should get going then. As the old man said, you can't find jobs if you just sit around." I stood up and I grabbed my sling bag. I was about to walk away when I heard the door of the building being opened.
"Hey, kid?"
