Blueth Mendoza's POV
"What did you just say!?"
"Oh, I said that I'll keep you forever as my friend. I'll never let you go!"
My eyes grew wide as I heard him repeat the thing he said to me earlier. This kid's crazy!
"You can't do that!"
"Oh? Why not?"
"Well, because I have a family and friends to come back to. They'll start getting worried about me if I don't return to them."
Okay, saying that out loud sounded selfish. I just said to a kid that is lonely that I can't stay with him because I have family and friends to come back to. In my mind, that sounded cool and sweet, I don't know where I went wrong in saying it.
"Hm, must be nice to have family and friends." The kid said as he was looking down on his empty plate. "But that's okay if you can't stay because you have someone to come home to."
"So, does that mean that I can go home?" I said as I started getting up from the chair.
"Oh, I didn't say anything about you getting to go home, I just said that it's fine that you have family and friends to come home to, I didn't say you can go home."
"You're confusing me kid."
"If you have family and friends, that's good news for me! Take your family and friends here and we'll have fun here forever! It'll be so much fun here! Lots of people laughing, playing games, telling jokes! It'll be a birthday party that will never end!"
Okay, that's creeping me out on a whole other level. I'm just going to take my leave and go look for the Mistake.
"Yeah, listen. I can't really do that kid because they wouldn't like it. Anyway, thank you for the cake, it was a delicious one, but I need to go now. There's this work that I need to go take care of and I really need to finish it. So, I hope that your guests will show up and uh, enjoy the party. Bye!" I stood up and started walking away from the table. Please don't follow me, please don't follow me, please don't follow me.
"You'll just leave like that?" The kid said as I kept walking away. I didn't look back to see him because he was really creeping me out.
"Uh-huh, I still need to take care of something." Call me rude and selfish all you want, but when someone acts all creepy like that, even if it's just a kid, I'll be the first one to leave. It's just not normal.
I started running as I felt like the kid will do something out of the ordinary.
"No one leaves!"
Ah, see? There it is, the kid's doing something out of the ordinary. Rocks started floating around me and I don't know why but for some reason, I managed to dodge them all when the kid threw them towards me. Anyway, I started running away from the kid while looking for the Mistake since finding and capturing the Mistake is my only way of ending this proofreading.
It's hard to spot a Mistake while running away from a kid which had the ability to do things out of the ordinary. But I managed to do it. I managed to spot the Mistake while running and dodging the rocks the kid was throwing.
The Mistake was sitting on top of a mushroom as it quietly watched me being bombarded by rocks. The mistake was a smidget sized one so knocking it down to the ground will be a hard task to do if it decided to run away from me and start floating everywhere.
I was thinking of ways to knock the smidget down on the ground as I kept running and dodging the rocks. Then, it hit me. No, literally, a rock hit me. I didn't get hit that hard so I was fine, anyway, I got an idea as the rock hit me on my shoulder.
I'll use those flying rocks to knock down the Mistake! That's not a bad idea if I do say so myself, if Ms. Val was here, she'd be very proud of the plan I thought of. She'll be very proud or she'll take the idea I came up with and use it as her own.
Now that I know how to knock down the Mistake, I ran towards it, and just like that, I dodged a rock which came flying towards me, and instead of the rock hitting me, it hit the Mistake. The Mistake came flying and it landed on its back. "Got you!"
I grabbed a vial and threw it towards the Mistake and with luck, the vial touch the Mistake and it got sucked inside.
"Yes!" I said as I picked up the vial. And with the Mistake snuggled up inside the vial, the magic door appeared in front of me. All I need to do now is to step inside and this creep-fest will be all over.
I was about to step inside the magic glowy door so I can have a non-creepy surrounding again but I saw the kid, kneeling on the ground, crying.
"No... Not this loneliness again... Why can't I just act normal for once... People hate me when I do that... Why... Why!? Why can't I have friends!?"
After hearing him say these words, I felt bad about the things I have said to him and I felt bad about running away from him. Something inside me feels, wrong. I feel like I'm doing a bad thing.
I took a deep breath as I thought about what I should do. Minutes passed by and I decided to come up to him and say a proper goodbye. I want him to be happy, I want to be friends with him, I don't want him to be sad. But I can't stay here, I have family and friends I need to come back to.
I was about to walk towards him but I stopped as I saw a girl walk up to him. I hid behind a tree and see what will happen, and also hope to hear what they'll talk about.
I couldn't really hear what they're saying. But they hugged and they were smiling at each other. I don't know who that girl is, and I don't know why she walked up to him, but I'm guessing that this story ended with the kid having someone to come to his birthday. Someone better than everyone.
I smiled at them and I started walking towards the door. I then got transported back to the house.
"Ah! Finally! Non-creepy surroundings!" I said as I flopped on the floor.
"You had a tough time proofreading kiddo?"
I looked up and I saw Ms. Val standing in front of me.
"Yeah, it was the creepiest book I proofread. By the way, how did your coming out went?"
"Ah, people just laughed at me, telling me that I was dreaming and stuff. What about you? How did your proofreading go?" Ms. Val said as she waved her finger in the air and her clothes changed from tattered dress back to her normal baggy clothes.
"Well, as I said, it was the creepiest proofreading I did. Oh, by the way. When I placed a book on top of the proofreading book, the proofreading book started glowing without me tapping on it. Also, a character in the book saw me, is that normal?"
"Hm? Oh yeah, the proofreading book does that from time to time. When the proofreading book lights up even without you tapping on it, it means that you can interact with the characters in the story. It's normal, you don't have to worry about it."
"Woah, and here I thought that the book I was proofreading was cursed or something."
Ms. Val let out a smile as she patted my head. "You did well proofreading on your own kid."
