Chapter Forty Nine

Blueth Mendoza's POV

"Here we are! Home sweet home!" Rachelle said as she smiled at me. Rachelle and I walked for around 15 minutes and Rachelle stopped in front of an abandoned house. "I'll get the door."

Rachelle opened the door and told me to come in. I smiled at her and I walked right into her house.

"I'm sorry my house is not that grand or something. I tried looking for another house to live in but they were all occupied by scavengers, this is the only one I found not occupied. I hope this doesn't make you think less of me." Rachelle said as she placed the ingredients she bought.

Her house is just a small bedroom besides an old abandoned house, I feel like this used to be a garage. The house beside the room is all messed up like it'll collapse any minute. I smiled at her as she was preparing the ingredients she bought. "So, you live in an abandoned garage, what about it? I think it's pretty awesome."

Rachelle let out a small laugh as she kept cutting the ingredients she bought.

"You need any help?" I asked as I walked towards her.

"No, no, I'm good. You just sit there and wait. I'll cook the best soup you ever tasted!"

"Okay, if you say so. Just let me know if you want me to cut those for you."

I sat down on her bed as I looked around her room. Minutes passed and I heard a phone ring. I looked over the table and I saw that it was Rachelle's phone that was ringing. Rachelle noticed and she stopped cutting and answered her phone.

"Hello?" Rachelle asked as she placed the phone near her ear. "Hm, understood. I'll go look for it right away."

Rachelle placed her phone back on the table and she started tying her hair into a little bun.

"Got a job to do?" I asked as I looked at Rachelle.

"Uh-huh. Be right back." Rachelle replied as she went inside the bathroom.

"Can I come with?"

"I don't know, can you handle it?"

"Rachelle please, I nearly got killed by a shadow thing, I can handle a simple item hunting mission."

Rachelle went out of the bathroom in her all-black outfit. "Well then, let's go." Rachelle grabbed my hand and she started dragging me outside.

"I can run you know!"

Minutes of running and Rachelle and I finally reached the place where the missing item was located. And you guessed it, it was an abandoned house filled with scavengers.

I don't know why Rachelle asked me if I can handle it, getting the item was easy. Nothing bad happened, well, except for me scraping my leg by getting stuck under a pile of chairs. I don't know what's up with me and chairs. I keep getting trapped in them. That being said, we managed to retrieve the item Rachelle was asked to get.

"Here's the missing item." Rachelle said as she handed it over to her client. Her clients were one of the rich people in our town.

"Thank you. Our daughter would be so happy."

"Not until she finds out we got her gift taken away dear." The man next to the woman laughed.

"It's our daughter's birthday today and we want to give her something special, so we bought her this very expensive necklace. But we accidentally dropped it while going back home. Thank you for bringing it back. Here's the payment for your trouble." The woman said as she gave Rachelle an envelope. It looks full.

"No problem, I'm glad to be of help."

The woman smiled and they entered their house. Rachelle placed the envelope in her pouch and she looked at me.

"Now that that's over, shall we return to my home so I can cook some of that soup?"

"I'll race you there!" I said as I smiled.

"You're on!"

I laughed and started running, but I haven't gotten far when I noticed that Rachelle wasn't behind me. I looked back and I saw Rachelle looking at one of the windows on the house. I walked over and asked if she was okay.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Rachelle replied as she kept looking at the window. I got curious about what she was looking at so I took a peek at the window as well. And there I saw that a birthday party was being held. Looking at the happy family who was celebrating a birthday, I figured out why Rachelle stopped to look at the window.

I looked at Rachelle and was about to talk to her to comfort her when I received a message from Ms. Val. "Baby bird? This is Mama bird! The cake is back online! Return home with Rachelle before catbird here destroys this cake."

I smiled after reading the message Ms. Val sent me. What? It's funny how she sent me. And besides, I smiled because it's now time to stop ignoring the fact that it's Rachelle's birthday.

"Hey, Rachelle? Come with me!" I said as I grabbed her arm and started dragging her with me.

"H-Hey, where are we going?"

"You'll know when you know."

I kept dragging Rachelle with me until we reach the house. I now know why Rachelle likes dragging me all the time. It's kind of fun.

"Wait, why are we going to Ms. Val's house?" Rachelle asked as she looked at the building.

"There's something I want to show you."

"Show me?"

I giggled as I opened the front door of the house.

"Surprise!" Ms. Val yelled out as she popped the party poppers. "Happy Birthday Rachelle!"

"Happy Birthday!" Cathy said as she was licking the icing off of her fur. Cathy did jump on the cake.

"Don't mind the pieces of cake on the floor. I haven't had time to clean the floor yet. There wouldn't be any cake on the floor if someone just controlled their urges to jump on it." Ms. Val said as she looked at Cathy who was still licking the icing from her fur.

I giggled as I looked at Rachelle. "Happy Birthday Rachelle. I'm sorry it's not a big birthday with big decorations and all of that, I kind of messed up with the date and I haven't had much time to prepare. So, this is all that we can do in little time."

Rachelle stood still as she kept looking at the decorations, tears started flowing down her cheeks.

"Woah, why are you crying? Did this party popper scare you? Blueth! I told you that it was a bad idea to pop this!"

Rachelle giggled as she wrapped her arms around my neck, hugging me tightly. "H-hey, what's going o-on?" I asked as I started blushing.

"Thank you!" Rachelle said as she started sobbing.

"Awe, another cute photo of my babies." Ms. Val said as she took a picture of me and Rachelle. "Now stop crying and let's start partying!" Ms. Val said as she grabbed another party popper and popped it. "Ack! That is one loud popper."

Rachelle smiled as she wiped away her tears. "Thank you so much!"

Rachelle grabbed my arm and started dragging me towards where Ms. Val was standing. This must be payback for me dragging her all the way here. I'll let her get off this one time for dragging me because it's her birthday. But after this, I'll drag her so hard she'll regret dragging me. In a platonic way.
